Enjoying some escudo myself right now, so I figured it only right to watch this at the moment. This is one of my all time favorite tobaccos. If it was the only pipe tobacco I could smoke for the rest of my life, it wouldn't be a bad thing. Scandinavian tobacco group really does a good job with this and most every blend they have a hand in. Excellent review, as usual. Some people who do reviews like this inherently irritate me, but you do not. You have a smooth way about you and a sense of honesty. Good job.

It took 2 or 3 bowls and then loved it! It arrived very moist however after what seemed forever to dry finally it smoked perfectly. Will always have a jar for my regular tobacco rotation. A very enjoyable smoke. Really enjoy this channel!

Yes, Escudo is one of my favorite vapers. I must confess that after 40 plus years of pipe smoking, Elizabethan Mixtue is still on my list to try. BTW, I dig the Vox amp, the Rickenbacker, and the Fender jazz/precisionbass in the background.

Finally got around to trying Escudo and, I have to say, it comes pretty close to living up to the hype. If you are on the fence, definitely take the chance on a tin.

Great review! I like that you compare the blend you´re reviewing to other blends, it really helps. Im not a huge VaPer fan but I smoke OGS once in a while and enjoy it a lot. I will try the Escudo clone called Big Coin from Poul Olsen next time I visit Copenhagen. Take care. Emil

I know this is an old video but I am new to pipe smoking and one of my first tins was escudo and as far as packing, if this helps anyone or ypur good self, I have played around with it using different methods and I find that just folding it once, rub it a little then pinch it all straight out of your hand and and pack it in one go, a coin at a time is quicker and easier, of course depending on your bowl size how much tobacco is needed. 1 coin for my prince pipe and nearly 2 for my larger bowl patent system pipe. Bradley great review I'm a long time Cigar smoker my taste are normally on the strong side but started the Pipe experience as well and really enjoy it my start was with aromatics but have move up and enjoy more taste ans favor Vaper I like I've had the Bulls Eye fake and enjoyed it just a bit to sweet and just recently had a tasted of Escudo and really enjoy that Taste profile but I will try the Elizabethan.Thank you agin for the review and appreciate your perspectives ,I will review some of your addition review as I settle into my Pipe Tobacco team of smokes.

A crazy blend that has a fair amount of Perique and a unique flavor profile is Haddo's Delight from GLPease. Nice review of Escudo.

Lots of good information there, Bradley. Thanks. The formula seems to be: 'rubbed out'=stronger and more flavour, 'pressed'=milder and more aroma. I find myself veering towards the latter, but it really depends on the time of day. Two folded coins of Escudo burn forever, and smell fantastic at just above a smoulder. But if I want the 'hit' like one gets from Elizabethan, I also find it's better to rub them out. Cheers, Mark

I haven't tried Elizabethan Mix, yet, but Escudo has been found! It was a revelation. I put my first coin into my pipe in folded condition and lit it w/o any drying time. It burned slowly, like a fuse, and stayed lit till it was burned. The taste was amazing. Smooth, rich, and exactly what you would expect from an iconic blend. This is one tin that's worth it's premium and should be a part of any pipe smoker's 'cellar'.

Oddly I'm watching this vid after getting over a terrible cold myself. The odd thing is that I found that when I smoked a pipe and more important retro hailed.... i was cleared of the pressure and congestion, as well as if I was having a headache or was dripping from the shnoz. It was something I didn't expect but will continue with a further cold.

Interesting. Escudo was my first vaper and it almost put me off for good. Like smoking bell peppers and black peppercorns. I am glad I tried G&H louisiana perique, the various Pease perique blends and Hearth and home, Marlin Flake etc before I wrote it off for good. Must have got a bad tin. I agree with all your other descriptions though.

From your intros you sound like a decent musician. It would certainly be nice to see a video on music.

Have you ever considered reviewing any rope tobacco, e.g., Samuel Gawith or Gawith and Hoggart? Just curious because I think you have a very similar palate to mine, except for your dislike of aromatic casing/topping, so your reviews are very helpful to me.

Hello Bradley, love your review. Just a thought, but it seems to me that when Virginia forward blends and pressed into any form( kakes, coins, flake ect) this is done to slow down combustion in the pipe. By making the piper slow down, you get to experience more of the subtle flavors virginia blends bring to the table. I have never had Elizabethan mixture. Does it smoke hot and lose flavor If smoked to fast? Thank you for taking the time to make videos, I enjoy them immensely.

I didnt have an issue with it. Some use two coins. I use a smaller bowl with one coin. Fold it in half and twirl it up and press into bowl.

Brian Levine who does the Pipes Magazine Radio Show has Escudo as a daily blend. He says it's best with about a year's age on it. He also rubs it out and lets it dry a bit more than the average piper. I have a tin of Escudo currently undergoing the aging. I got into Luxury Bullseye Flake about a month ago. I picked up some from SPC and then bought another two ounces to have as a regular blend from a B&M the week after lol. The stuff from SPC went into a jar for aging. It's currently on one month. I'll probably crack it sometime around six months age. I'm very much looking forward to seeing the difference between the two. I've heard the Escudo is less sweet than the Luxury Bullseye Flake.

Scientifically manufactured to be the best VAPER.

Twists and flakes, when left unrubbed, smoke much more slowly. They bite less, but can build progressively to a much greater flavour intensity. That's what happens to Escudo when smoked in the right pipe. Elizabethan Mixture was Dunhill's answer to Escudo. I loved it when first I tried it as a teenager. It seems just a little generic to me now. Or perhaps the Danes did that to it? Escudo is not quite what it once was either....but all smokers say that. Maybe it's one's taste buds that are not what they once were!

I have an almost full tin of Escudo I would like to trade. I like Balkan blends, Hearth and Home, Boswell's, let me know what you have!

When i celler this tobacco should i keep it in the tin, or put it in jar's? I'm going to buy a lot of it to age, and i want to age it for at least 5 years. I love this tobacco, it's in my top 3.

Hey Bradley, great review :) So I finally went down and bought my first pipe, a pipetool, pipe cleaners, matches and a pouch of Stanwell Classic and had my self a sunday smoke ;-), which I enjoyed alot btw.. I do have a few questions regarding pipes and tobacco. First off after smoking 1/3 of the bowl, I needed to get the moisture out of my pipe, so I grabbed a pipecleaner and startet to clean out the moisture in the stem. But after I (gently) cleaned it out, I noticed the pipe seemed "stuck". I noticed that there's a small ball inside the back of the stem, is that normal, and or how do I avoid pressing it, when cleaning out the moisture, which results in me having to empty out the bowl and fill it over again.. My second question is regarding the tobacco. Now that I've tried Stanwell Classic, which I enjoyed, I would like to try something more sweet and also mild tobacco, which gives a great smell, just like Sweet Dublin Irish Whiskey, is there anything you could recommend? completely agree that the coin cut is not the best. For me at least. Whenever I get it I get out my scissors and cube cut it or cut it in smaller chunks and then it smokes like a dream with less relighting.

I tried it. Can't say I share yours (and many other's) affection. To my knowledge this is about an 80/20 Va/Per. It doesn't have the bite some other VaPers had that I tried, but as for my taste...it is not very good. It tastes and smells like cigarette/cigar combo. No sir....I don't like it.

Sadly it has become waaay to overpriced imo. I do have one shops I can get it for 13.99 which I will not give up my stache lol

Im sorry but you cannot taste a tobacco properly if you have even a trace of a cold. The nose is a key player. Nevertheless Escudo is wonderful!
