What do you make of such a small disparity between standing and approach heights? Something with his physiology or do you think there are potential mechanic tweaks to get the approaches up?
@pjfperformance
@pjfperformance 2 жыл бұрын
Mostly Mechanics. Lack of IR limits the block step which keeps him from being able to approach with maximal speed and transition vertically. But also guys with higher muscle mass typically do great from standing but don’t get any higher running.

Standing reach should always be measured with fully stretched arm, when you max jump you stretch your arm to try and touch as high as you can
@joeklaps4708
@joeklaps4708 2 жыл бұрын
I do agree with that, but you should say the same thing with tippy toes - when you jump you first go on your tippy toes, so that should be your standing reach.
@kakasvk
@kakasvk 2 жыл бұрын
@@joeklaps4708 but that would make a lot of variance and differences in measuring standing reach, because everybody has a different ability to stay on their tippy toes, differences could be as much as of 3" or more. However, you can pretty confidently check out if someone reaches to their max and make their standing reach test to be as strict as possible by checking them and guiding them. And if they wanted to cheat despite all of that, just video their jump to see how well they're able to fully reach when jumping and compare if they do/try to do same in reach test.
@joeklaps4708
@joeklaps4708 2 жыл бұрын
@@kakasvk That's true, it would be harder to measure it because you won't be able to tell if someones fully on their tippy toes or just making it as if they are. But I just don't think I'll ever understand why the official way of measuring a vertical is flat footed.
@kakasvk
@kakasvk 2 жыл бұрын

Paul, do you know how fast Chris can run for the 100m dash?
@pjfperformance
@pjfperformance 2 жыл бұрын
Not sure! I’d imagine the 40 would be insanely fast tho
@ChristopherSpell
@ChristopherSpell 2 жыл бұрын
My 40 yard dash is a 4.48 on a zybek sports laser timer. That would be the equivalent of somewhere in the 4.3s if it was the NFL Combine since they average in stop watch times. My stop watch time could be as low as 4.1-4.4 …because stopwatch times are irrelevant imo. Too much human error. That’s why I invested in the laser and the vertec

@pjfperformance
@pjfperformance 2 жыл бұрын
Not true when looking at best overall jumper. High jumpers might have the highest 1 foot jump. But they usually have standing vertical jumps in the low 30’s and very average approach 2 foot jumps. Most athletic overall jumper goes to the guy who can jump from standing, approach 2 foot and approach 1 foot. I’d be very surprised if any high jumper is in that conversation.
