I lived in Hartlepool for 23 years, through a period when you could get a donkey elected as the Labour candidate (hey Mandelson got in), I was looking out for the four horseman of the apocalypse on the morning after the election!

Alistair Campbell on tv is always a “pass me the remote before I vomit” moment.

To correct Belinda, this athlete was and is still a man.

The reason Labour did well in Wales is that Welsh voters are 5 years behind English voters, in terms of realising that Labour does nothing for them. Many of the electorate still vote Labour “because Dad and Grandad did”. There is a common saying in Wales that “if you put a red rosette on a donkey, it will be voted in.” The Labour candidate only has to mention one word, “Thatcher” and bingo, votes for Labour, without any knowledge that Labour closed far more coal mines than Thatcher did.

I live in London but have never voted for Sadiq Khan as London Mayor. Given Sadiq's record whilst in office I cannot understand why anyone would vote for him.

I didn't vote for Sadiq Khan in London. He has made it almost impossible for disabled people to ride on the London overground. My wife and I cannot travel from Turkey street on the train because he has not made it disabled accessible on all but one of the stations into Liverpool Street.

Just to correct Mike. James Callaghan was not `elected PM` in 1976 by the general electorate. He won the Labour leadership contest in April of that year after Harold Wilson resigned as PM a month earlier in March. The last pre-Blair elected Labour Prime Minister was Wilson in 1974.
