William Barber I would do both. Just make sure ph is good and you have enough sunlight

Another great management video from you. I put in most of my plots Memorial Day/my Birthday weekend here in PA. and it was HOT. I planted forage and grain soybeans along with buckwheat,Egyptian wheat,Milo and sunflowers. I also fenced off most of my soybeans and then did a 15' wide strip of Egyptian wheat,sunflowers,Milo and buckwheat to block off neighbors and a road. I wanted to put in more buckwheat but our local area was all out so I just put in extra soybeans and when they are all destroyed by the deer and groundhogs I'm just going to put in my Brassicas,winter peas and radishes.Then at the start or mid- September I'll be putting in my oats,winter peas,winter wheat,soybean and brassica plot. I love putting in the work during the Spring and Summer to see how it brings the animals in for hunting season.You look to have a good mixture and I think it should work out well for you so I can't wait to watch throughout the year to see how everything grows. I hope your heard isn't to large that they wipe you out to much but if so that's just more room for late season plots.Best of Luck to you

I just got a weird blend I’ve never seen before. It has sugar beets, radish’s, kale, turnips, carrots, rape, and more. It’s from a local seller in Michigan. Looking forward to trying it out. Seems like a killer food source!

My brother and I have a similar tractor and rototiller we use for our plots. Much easier than the first year we used an arctic cat 800 with a small pull disc lol.

Just curious to know what your goal/strategy is in planting summer plots? There is no scarcity of summer deer food in the area I hunt and I dont think I can grow anything with a grater draw than the black raspberries we would have to take out to put in another plot.

john christopher good question. Main goal is to provide high quality forage and help improve soil health. Buck wheat is a good choice because it’s high in protein and only last about 60 days and it’s very good for the soil.

Very nice video Dave, great job! When you drive out there did you stay there or drive home each night.? also, do you have a drone? I would love to see before and after arial shots of the fields. especially the souhrgum separating the 2 fields. That would be a nice shot.

My Slice Of Heaven Outdoors I usually just stay out there when I go. To much having to drive back and forth. I do have a drone but unfortunately it’s trashed. Can’t afford to get a new one lol. Hopefully soon I’ll pick one up. The one I had I used the heck out of it.

Awesome video Dave! I have got some of my plots done too. I got clover inone plot and oats in another. I did plant corn in one but mostly for cover and if they eat it that's fine too.

603 Hunting & Fishing you can use it on anything green and growing. Yes it’s mixed with water. 1 oz of antler grow per gallon of water

Dave, bought 2 - 20 gallon round ponds and I'm gonna bury them in the ground by my food plot and mineral lick sites. question is do I need to put some kinda algaecide to keep algae from growing in the ponds and will it hurt the deer?

Frank Patton nope wouldn’t worry about it. Deer are used to drinking “dirty” water. Maybe once a year or something you can drain it and scrub it other then that I wouldn’t do anything. Bedside deer get most of there water content from plants. At least 70-80 percent. Very rarely will they actually take drinks of water

You can for sure. Smaller seeds like clover and such it’s a little easier to gauge with a shoulder spreader. On the larger seeds you can definitely use the atv spreader

I have a quick question for you, I am starting my first micro plot. What would you recommend planting?

Good question. If you are planting now I would maybe do some clover chicory mix, and then later in the summer I would broadcast some brassicas over top. You could just do buckwheat now because buckwheat only last about 60 days and then it dies off. It will help build the soil up. By the time it dies off you can then plant some greens. Brassicas, turnips, oats etc.

Well I would do a soil test to see how much lime you need and what the current ph is. If your not doing a soil test I would just throw down a few hundred pound of pelletized lime and 300 lbs of 10-10-10 per acre

I live in the Clearfield area of PA....all I find is little backhoes and excavators track hoes....I’ve been planting with a garden tractor for years and it sucks lol
