Planting Tiger Lily Seeds - please read additional info in subject box

Күн бұрынHello and welcome to Old Ways Gardening and Prepping. Absolutely love the beauty of these bold and beautiful old Southern flowers. You don't see them growing much anymore in gardens. When I was a child they were grown all over. Looking forward to these seeds germinating so I grow them in honor of my Grandmother. Hope everyone is doing well and have a blessed day. 🍀

* Apparently I forgot to mention that some seeds will form on the stems where the leaves come out from. They will form in to little black balls there. Have harvested seeds from pods and from the stems. Most of the time they will form on the stems.

This is my first year that my lilies bloomed. I love them! I just noticed the black seeds along the stem. I will harvest and replant them. Thank you so much for your video. God Bless you

Your welcome and glad that you enjoyed the video. Just give them time and make sure that they are ripe to harvest. Good luck and be patient with them it can take up to two years before they germinate. If you plant them in a pot please make sure to put a label in it or on it that way you don't reuse the soil before they germinate. Thank you for watching my video. Take care and have a blessed day. Thank you. I’ve looked for info & you have the closest to my needs. I live in the foothills of No Calif. we have Humbolt lilies here at 2300’ elevation. They r a lot like your tigers. Our town was burned down in 2018 & slowly building back. I’m rebuilding my house & saw on a neighboring lot the lilies in bloom‼️ Now the pods r almost dry so I put them on a widow sill to finish drying. I’m hoping to save then but not sure how to do it..your clip is encouraging, thank you. I’m hoping to get permission to dig up the bulbs as the area is being dug up for rebuilding.❤

Delightful video, thank you! My beloved tiger lilies just finished their 3rd blooming year, and I finally made sure to harvest these from the stems. Next, I think my bulbs need to be dug up and sorted for the first time, but that can wait until another day, haha.

Thank you! Last year when my tiger lilies bloomed and I saw all the little black things along the stem, I thought I had some kind of bugs laying eggs and I carefully cut them down and got rid of them. I was dismayed when my Mother informed me those were seeds!

That's when I learned that they were seeds. She had so many of them and learned that lesson as a child and she taught me how to collect and plant them. My mom is trying to grow tigerlilies from bulbs for the first time. Can I ask how long do we wait until they're "big enough" to be planted on a larger pot/area?

If you are talking about dividing them I would wait at least a couple of years. As long as the growing conditions are good you will notice that the clumps are getting crowded. That is when you will divide them and definitely wait till fall to do it when the foliage starts to die back. Take care and have a blessed day. 🍀

I see a lot of these on roadsides do they spread by seed?

The ones you are seeing on the sides of the roads are known as corn or ditch lilies. They are a different kind of lily. They spread faster by rhizomes than seeds. Welcome to my channel and have a blessed evening. 🍀
