i think ghastly and haunters height is measured from ground to top of where their sprites float in the games, which would also explain why haunter shrinks when it evolves to gengar since he stands on the ground

I think the issue is confusing "height" and "length". Dunsparce being four feet LONG makes perfect sense to me.

At first I thought: What a good idea. I'm gonna watch this video! And then you started talking about feet. I have no clue what 1 foot is. My head was like: just say it in meters!!

I used the height chart that appears in Pkmn Platinum (where basically showed a comparison between the player and the Pokémon) to determine their effective height.

I kinda feel like Gamefreak was just being lazy with the sizes of Pokemon in the Pokedex, because they clearly don't seem correct.

I do believe gamefreak, especially for the first few games basically just put whatever numbers for the height and didn’t really consider it all until the anime. Basically the anime is more accurate when trying to gage Pokémon’s heights.

Wow! That's pretty impressive! I didn't know that a lot of the pokemon shared the same heights with each other! Variations in a single phenotype can exist between creatures of the same species though. If those are actually the height/length averages of each in the Pokedex, it wouldn't be a surprise (although it kind of hints to some laziness in the development of their entries over the years). Hopefully it's not all magic/golden numbers, but I kind doubt Charizard is that short on average. 🤷‍♀️ Who knows, perhaps if they take this single biometric seriously it will change the way they are animated, modeled and utilized in future Pokemon anime and video games to come! ^^

In the more recent games (I've seen it in Let's Go and Pokemon Go, yes, I know they aren't main series games) they have size variances. You get a small bonus in Let's Go for capturing an abnormally large or small Pokemon, and your Appraisal in Go will prompt a startled response when your Pokemon is near either extreme. This lends credence to Ash's Charizard in the anime being abnormally large for its kind, and some of the other size discrepancies in the series. These games also try to present your Pokemon in a proper proportion, which is how I learned that Ghastly was SO FREAKING HUGE.

I'm pretty sure the methodology for measuring a Pokemon is something like: - if it stands on two legs, measure from feet to head - on four legs, measure feet to top - no legs, head to tail - then take that measurement, discard it, and generate a random number.

So basically, Lucario is shorter than almost all the bugs in the Pokémon universe.
