Last year down south here we had a bad hurricane and it closed our whole down down for 3 days. No power or gas or anything. Luckily i was taking a break from the hobby at the time. Then shirtly after that i got back in and had a scare and the power went out on the take for 30 mins with no back up anything. So after that i added a MP40 and the ecotech back up battery. But then i figured its a investment and i went ahead and did the whole home Generac generator. Total installed was $8k I figured when i sell it added vaule to the home so its not a bad investment. It does weekly start ups to maintain the engine and gas. Also alerts me when needs maintenance or too add fuel. It starts and runs and maintains itself its freaking awesome. The moment power goes out the whole house come back on like nothing ever happened. Im just glad i didnt lose a tank because of no power. Great tips!

Getting advice from solar/electrical KZfaqrs I’m building a DIY powerwall now after losing my whole tank after a power outage from the wildfire here in Colorado over the new year. UPS + diy vortech battery only gave me 30 to 45 minutes. One 48v battery will give me 6hours and you can add multiple based on your needs super easily.

In alaska.. power outages are pretty normal. The first thing I did after starting my tank cycle, was go pick up a backup battery.

For the battery powered auto air pumps, these are fantastic for people with rocks other bio in the sump. They can keep flow going while lower maintenance than in a display and out of sight.

Well, about 4 days late on this one! I haven't had power since Feb 3rd due to a tree falling on a line from the ice storm. Luckily I was able to borrow a generator to keep heater, return pump and protein skimmer online. I also covered the entire top with aluminum foil to keep the heat in the tank. Today we got the power back. I'm definitely going to implement some of the things in this video for future power outages. Thanks for the info guys.

@@anthonycales9118 😉 I thought that what u meant… either that or maybe this was an old video that had been re-uploaded for some reason 🤷‍♂️😂😁🥰 I hope u reef tank is ok, sounds like u had it all under control 🥰 when me and my dad get a tank he say we gon try and gets good equipment that have a battery backup at least for the wave maker, we gonna get a waterbox cube or peninsula probably, and the sicce syncra pump Thomas show a few days ago look like a great return pump that has access to app that can alert to temps etc too, so we hopefully has a small semi-hi-tech tank, without having to get like a Neptune or something 🥰🐶

When we had a wildfire blast through in 2017, I was without power for 2 days, and then on and off for the next 3 days. No way my battery backup was going to cover that so I had to use the power inverter in my Tacoma to keep it going. For larger tanks, I feel like a generator on hand is a confidence booster if you live in an area you can be without power for more than 8 hours.

That's what I've got. (9kwh charging off solar and economy 7) 1000w gtil (grid tie inverter with limiter) for the psu to charge the lithium batteries I'm using two 42v server psus in series going into a solar charge controller. ;-)

Hybrid solar inverter (GroWatt, MPPSolar) + a couple of car batteries (or better yet: LiFePO4). Uses mains electricity when its available, switches instantly to batteries when power outage. Parallel more batteries for longer run time.

Suggest selecting a pure sine wave inverter. Don't go cheap. Skip the modified or simulated inverters. Your electronics will thank you.

I had a prolonged, but planned outtage recently, and i thought i had stuff pretty well arranged for my tank(very large ups), so i thought “good testing opportunity”. I was so happy i still had an old generator, because I made a fatal flaw in my thinking about heating the tank. You see, I had tested running the tank without heaters, to see how fast it would cool. But I forgot my home heating (natural gas) would also fail on a power outtage, being winter time, the house cooled to 11c /51f in just two hours. And the tank cools off a lot faster then. I would have been better off, putting my home heater on the ups than my tank heater.

On another youtube channel i learned that you can mix calcium chloride and water which will react and produce heat, which you then can float in the tank. No idea how well it works though.

I am looking for a battery back up... The reviews on the vortech battery pack are pretty poor on brs and the cost is super high? Only two reviews on the icecap? Are their other solutions?? So I have a generator... but I need to be home to turn it on. (not a generac). I also have the low grade air pumps but don't think they can give me enogh time to get home. More information....

I have a EcoTech Vectra S2 and MP10 with their battery backup. I am debating whether to keep both the vectra and the MP10 on it or just the powerhead. Is the powerhead alone sufficient for gas exchange?
@BRStv
@BRStv Жыл бұрын
In most cases, we recommend just putting your powerheads on battery backup. In a vast majority of cases, this will give your tank enough gas exchange while also giving you the longest possible battery run time.

Hey, can y’all do an episode on the mangrove cube we randomly see in the background on some videos? Been thinking about setting one up.
@BRStv
@BRStv 2 жыл бұрын
There's really not too much to that tank. It has a deep sand bed of Caribsea special grade sand (about 6" or so), a Kessil A360X Tuna Sun, and of course, the mangroves themselves. The big one is one that Randy has been growing out for a few years now. We do have this plumbed to a sump with a rollermat and heater, however, the sump is mostly for show and doesn't house that much in terms of equipment or filtration.

what if you dont use ecotech? What battery backup options exist for things like the cor15?
@BRStv
@BRStv 2 жыл бұрын
There isn't currently a battery backup option for the COR15 as it plugs directly into the EB832. You could plug your EB832 into a UPS or other battery backup, but that would end up powering everything on that energy bar and likely use up that battery very quickly.

In most power outage situations, gas exchange (oxygen) is priority #1. Next would be temperature control, but unfortunately, heaters and chillers draw a lot of power. If you're planning for a prolonged power outage, having a generator is a must.
