Congrats on your first KZfaq earnings. I do my channel for fun but stopped a few years and started back again fresh. I do collect clean nice condition VHS tapes and sealed record type ones. I find them in various Goodwill's and some church thrift stores. I have 300+ VHS movies and 300+ DVD and same amount of music CD's. I love old formats and well as older camcorders like the first VHS one to DVC and VHS-C and mini-DVD camcorder's all in working conditions. Also collect cassette tapes sealed blanks 100's of them in Metals to high bias and normal bias and 100's of DVD blanks and DVD R-W same as CD's blanks to MD discs. I love it all and use it all. I subscribed to your channel.

I am also a VHS Fan Nut, I have an Analog Basement full of Old Tech Stuff, Scientifically Analog Video tapes Outlast all other Median Devices to Date. Also the Soft Sound produced By Analog recordings have a Greater Bandwith range then Digital Quality audio which cant compete. The idea is to store them in a cool dark Moisture free room and vertically upright, rewinded to the beginning.

I'm not a video archiving expert but I think the quality of your uploads to the second channel looks good enough for VHS. It probably wouldn't be worth a future upgrade unless it going to save you time.

From what i gather I'm personally thinking of getting a Panasonic DMR-ES45VS DVD Recorder since it has a hdmi out natively... and using that with a TV Tuner card from Hauppage.... I think that combined would produce a good output. and the VCR kinda upscales from what i saw.

I do the same thing but I do it with blu-rays and DVDs I use different programs to rip those and then use a Plex server to watch them. Then I keep the discs in safe storage because they do have a finite life and make it back up of everything 😊

Personally, I love watching old/odd video archives. Picking up random 8mm movie films and obscure VHS tapes has become a staple for me when I go thrifting. I got into archiving when it became a part of my job last spring at the TV station I work at. Our setup is a little more... sketchy than a capture card, unfortunately. xD Best of luck with getting some VHS archives uploaded here on KZfaq!

Phillips,Mark,Sharp,Sanyo and Fisher was perhaps the worst Vhs-players and Tv sets ? The best were Jvc,samsung and Hitatchi?

Have you tested that capture thing yet? I mean, a lot of the VHS tapes back in those days had something called "MacroVision" copy protection. Macrovision works (afaik) by weakening the Video-sync signal meaning you CRT TV will be perfectly capable of seeing the signal (just enough to be viewable), but when you copy it, the sync will be so weak that you'll have synchronization issues (weak video signal, kinda jumpy and colors distorted).

Would you be willing to make a tutorial video on how to digitize VHS’s? I’m not an expert, but I’m definitely willing to learn 😅🙂
