I keep saying it, this isn't just an mv, it's a kinetic manifesto. The choreography is one of the main drivers of the message and the story of the song. This is on par with the Black Swan art film and the ON Kinetic manifesto film. The mv is art.

One of my favorite things is how often the surrounding dancers are moving frenetically - big, sharp, fast movements - while Jimin is basically prowling. In theory they could overshadow him, but he's such a good performer that he totally draws the eye anyway, and it makes the moments when he joins them hit really hard. I also love the top-down shot during the lift because a combination of the camera lens and how far back the dancers tilt their heads gives the impression that he's floating high in the air - it's such a cool way to give us that feeling!

Jimin had a lot of say in the final choreography too and seems to have changed up the initial choreo sienna sent over to tell his story better ❤️ I adore how involved he has been in every single aspect of this song right from the writing the lyrics, composing, making the artistic choices and ideas for the MV as well as the choreo. He explained he wanted the intensity of trying to set himself free from the negative headspace in the lyrics to come across in the dancing as well

This is by far the best choreography in any BTS song, ON is close, but Jimin took the crown. I am obsessed with how perfect and beautiful this whole choreography is, and Jimin, as always, you’re a stage commander. 🔥 🔥

Yes, the *Fibonacci spiral* , which is considered the Golden Spiral, the PERFECT sequence, very used by artists to achieve the perfect aesthetic balaced composition in art... And I guess that could be it, *Jimin is finally free from that PERFECT mold people try to fit him in*

The lyrics describe an INNER battle. He is telling his "shadows" of. The look back on the "Lie" choreography and lyrics is as intentional as the call to Yoongi's "Set Me Free", "Interlude: Shadow", "Black Swan" and "On". He set himself free from his own expectations that hurt him.

They built this panopticon just for this MV. Just today they release a filming sketch for the MV. It's a German poem by Rainer Maria Rilke written on his body. The poem goes: I live my life in ever widening circles, each superseding all the previous ones. Perhaps I never shall succeed in reaching the final circle, but attempt I will. I circle around God, the ancient tower, and have been circling for a thousand years, and still I do not know: am I a falcon, a storm, or a continuing great song?

The aggressiveness of the posture from the dancers strengthen the story of the song and the song. And they emphasis Jimin's movements and it is amazing!!!

This song talks about being trapped and in a depressive state trying to break free. The MV set is a circular "prison" and the formations show this constant battle: smoothness/control vs chaos, being trapped vs breaking free....and these themes run throughout the entire song showing how battling with depression/your dark thoughts is this neverending, circular struggling. Even the way he sings and the use of voice modulation is reflecting the theme of the song of your darker, inner voices vs the voice that tries to be free (and if you listen the whisper of another voice under all of that which might suggest the person beneath the struggle just tired of having to go through the cycle constantly). However, the song may seem a bit heavy/dark, but the trumpets make this seem like a "fight song" with the triumph not "breaking free" (because depression is a cycle and circular prison that always comes back) but rather the triumph is in the fight itself and being able to still be there underneath all of it.

this is choreograph by Lee Byung, Yoon Seong Eun, Sienna Lalau and there's another one that I forgot. all of them contribute to this beautiful masterpiece.

I don't remember where I heard this, many bands use performance and instruments to convey their message. For BTS dance and choreography are an essential part of their message. In Set Me Free part 2, Jimin stretches the vision of how dance can enhance the message of the art. I am so glad that you did this video. Seeing it from the point of view of a choreographer enhances the art for me.

Jimin is a genius, a stage commander, Rookie’s bible. Rookie Idols study his dance style. Jimin is a oerfectionist. He isnt satisfied with just one take. If he has to repeat many times just to make everything perfect.

The spiral the dancers create represents The golden spiral which is a pattern created based on the concept of the golden ratio-a universal law that represents the “ideal” in all forms of life and matter. In fact, it’s often cited as an example of the connection between the laws of mathematics and the structure of living things. The more we understand the math behind the symbol, the more we’ll appreciate its appearances in nature and arts. As another army pointed out the golden ratio appears off and on butterflies and as he breaks out of that spiral he sings the lyrics "Fly away, butterfly".

I agree with your initial reaction on the ‘6’ formation. It looks a maze and jimin just walking towards the inside of the maze into a dead end - and then escaping out like a butterfly.

I love the analysis by experts versus fans. Like dancers analyze the choreo and dancing, musicians analyze the music, etc. I see things I totally missed on multiple watches of the MV and dance practice. Love it.

You were talking about how the number of dancers increases the impact in this particular performance. I have seen quite a few reactions to the music video so far. Virtually every reactor pauses the video about 10 or 15 seconds into it, completely blown away by the impact of the group of dancers.

The spiral is a maze. It's specifically mentioned in the lyrics. No they aren't using a drone. It's a camera on a huge crane arm. They dropped the Behind the Scenes today. So you can go see it

The German poem on his body is by Ranier Rilke. It begins “I live my life in widening circles that reach out across the world…and ends “I still don’t know if I am a falcon, a storm, or a great song.” I think the spiral is a “storm” that he has had to go through. This song is very deep. Due to relationships and the pandemic Jimin felt depressed and lost. The other songs help you understand what is happening. I recently read a book called Angels Before Man, it tells the story of Lucifer from his perspective, from creation to fall. It is pretty blasphemous, the second half is scandalous and a little disturbing to say the least, I enjoyed it. This choreography reminds me of the book and the depiction of Lucifer in it, the enchanting, hypnotic qualities of him, how by the end, he was being both judged by the host of heaven, and worshipped by his own host. The last part of the dance when the dancers are in a circle around him with their hands thrown to the air, and Jimin is swaying head tilted back, it feels ritualistic, intoxicating, it feels like worship, and I love it. I know its intended message isn't that, but it's how it feels to me and it's beautiful.

This set is probably from an audition show that HYBE put out called iLand. It had a circle atrium in the middle of the ceiling that had a camera attached to a railing.

So I am sure it was built for the MV since there needed to be light boxes put in and probably installing cameras and stereos and the like but...

I feel the chaos of the group, forming and unforming, is actually showcased better on the Symmetry of the hardwood versus the treated concrete amorphousness. The gimbal rig somehow captures the spiral more easily than the crane. Remarkable ❤️‍🔥🪽 Also appreciated the gender mix, which lessens the uniformity of similar physiques.
