Thanks for watching the channel and commenting. Both Iona and Betty have the old school expansion tank caps. I love it. As you said most I’ve been through have the plastic cap. Face palm on the camshaft sensor statement. It’s the magnetic camshaft adjuster. I rewatched the video and great catch.

I’m running standard ones in Iona and getting alright MPG the way I drive her hard in town and amazing MPG when I’m in the interstate. 23 to 25 on the interstate and 15 to 18 in town. The saying “there’s nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes” holds true. For me, anything with a m119 platform is a good starting point for getting to yes. I start with the basics like spark plug gap, correct firing order, vacuum leaks, and lose or unconnected electrical components before moving on to components and testing. Maybe a crossed plug wire is to blame, or an unplugged sensor if it wasn’t acting this way before you changed your cap and rotor. Start with those and hopefully the answer reveals itself.

Thanks for watching the channel and thanks for the kind words. Iona was a slow decline in idle and then tremendous rough idle below 1000 rpm and then smoothing out over 2500 plus. Cylinders 4 and 8 were fouled bad and I could take them out with my fingers. For your cylinders on one bank to be bad it may be the camshaft sensor or the camshaft adjuster magnet or both. One bank of fouled plugs leads me to think adjuster magnet since the variable valve timing is on the intake valves only. Wishing you the best of luck working out the problem on your 99 CL500.
