Pyramid REPEL 20 insect repellent / DEET 20%.
Despite the low percentage (which is great for sensitive skin apparently) it worked a treat for me! I was really impressed, so much so I made an impromptu video!
One of the essential but often overlooked items for outdoor enthusiasts.

No problem! Here's a link to the Avon stuff Sgt Fruitcake reccomended and I'm funding to be good so far. The only thing to bear in mind with it is that it's technically oil (feels dry to me though) so can make you burn more in the sun. Seems to work so far though and is only £1.99 per bottle! avonshop.co.uk/product/bath-and-body/skin-so-soft/skin-so-soft-original-dry-oil-body-spray.html?newdept=&s=bvSearch&c=Bazaar&otc=SkinSoSoftOriginalDryOilBodySpray&bnd=&RatingsAndReviews&SearchVoice&

Hi Martin! It did do the trick for me. I must say I've also had great experience with simple citrus wipes. Bugs hate citrus and it's so refreshing to have them on your skin. Definitely worth a try if the DEET didn't work for you. All the best mate and thanks for watching. I love your vids! Keep up the good work. Andy

Hi Martin! Just for info I've used this again since and for some reason the midges ate me alive! If anything it seemed to attract them this time! So strange. Luckily I had some of that Avon oil that Sgt Fruitcake recommended and that did work better. I'm actually thinking of taking this vid down now as I don't want to be recommending something I no longer stand by. All the best mate! Andy

I don't know about the ultra. I'll have to check it out myself... It might just be a rebranded 100 as I bought the 100 a year ago.

If you're ever shopping for a safe non-chemical bug deterrent, take a look at CATNIP spray. You can get it right on Amazon. It works better than DEET, and it's safe enough to eat. Cats love it too. :P -

+Average Joe Survival You're welcome. You know if you want to cover a topic on your channel that no bushcrafter or survivalist has covered, that I can see, make a special episode on SAFE and NATURAL ALTERNATIVES to survival carry items. I'm always looking for safe alternatives. And that's how I learned about catnip spray. I just googled "natural alternative to DEET", and there it was. BUG REPELLENT Catnip spray is 100% all natural, safe, and good for the environment. If DEET comes with all kinds of warnings about how unsafe it is to spray on your skin, and catnip can be safely sprayed in your mouth, and catnip is more effective than DEET . . . why on earth would anyone use the unsafe option, that doesn't even work as good? This is why it's never advertised on television, because catnip spray would cause the industry to lose business (and there are people out there who want us to poison ourselves). www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&page=1&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3ACatnip%20Insect%20Repellent mountainroseblog.com/herbal-mosquito-repellents/ www.annarbor.com/entertainment/food-drink/four-methods-to-create-a-natural-mosquito-repellant/ IODINE Another one is Lugol's Solution. So many survivalists and bushcrafters carry iodine to purify water. But most people don't know that there is a FOOD GRADE iodine that predates the poison they sell us at the local drug store. Don't be fooled by any disinformation/propaganda against the food grade iodine. www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss/186-2513593-8173609?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=lugols lugols.com/ ALCOHOL Although I don't carry alcohol, and I'll just use the iodine if I get a cut, some people do carry alcohol for their stoves, and know it's always there if they get a wound. The pharmaceutical industry has a habit of giving us unsafe and poisonous versions of products that have safe alternatives which even carry health benefits - such as alcohol. Some survivalists have taken to saying that "drinking alcohol is not a suitable replacement for drugstore alcohol." This claim is completely ignorant. In the old days before the pharmaceutical decided to [corner the market] on alcohol to make a profit, drinking alcohol is all everyone used, including doctors. The reason they gave for making alcohol by [distilling poisonous plants] is so people wouldn't be tempted to drink it - leaving people without alcohol in case of an emergency. But if you don't have a drinking problem, there's no logical reason not to carry a high proof drinking alcohol. Did you know that you are only supposed to use drug store alcohol on small wounds, because if you get too much [poison] in a large wound, you can poison yourself? On the other hand, drinking alcohol being FOOD GRADE means that you can use it on deeper and more serious wounds, People don't have to carry vodka, there are higher proof alcohols that will work even better in alcohol stoves. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE between drinking alcohol and drug store alcohol is what they are distilled from - period. . . and the fact that one is not FOOD GRADE. And if someone wants to drink their alcohol, seriously, where's the harm in that? Of course I don't expect you to bash the FDA on your channel (though I would), because KZfaq could make things difficult for you, and your channel is not about controversial matters. But it would be good to see someone cover the safe alternatives above. On a side note, I've noticed that Wranglestar has been waking up to the fact that the powers that be are not here for our benefit. If you aren't familiar with his channel, check him out. Anyone who's interested in Axes should subscribe to his channel. He has to be the foremost axe expert on KZfaq. And I'm sure his sister would agree with the things I've stated, as she runs a healthy eating channel here. There are so many things we are fed disinformation about regarding safe alternatives to products pushed by the food and drug industry. For instance, did you know that the human body NEEDS boron? Borax used to be used as a food preservative. The FDA made it illegal, for no reason. The common argument of disinformation is that borax kills insects and is used in bug poison, therefor borax is poisonous. The fact is simply that insects have a completely different metabolism than humans. This is why scientists NEVER use insect testing to judge how human will react to chemicals. They use rabbits and monkeys. This is also why it's very foolish to judge the safety of a mushroom by the fact that insects are eating it. I've had friends get very ill from following this foolish reasoning. As a result of them telling us that boron/borax is poisonous to humans, we all have a boron deficiency today, which contributes to poor health and disease. Another lie is that "distilled water is negatively charged" and causes some sort of sickness by stealing nutrients from our body. I've been distilling my water for about ten years, and I'm very healthy. The fact is that chemists use distilled water in experiments because "it is neutral." Neutral means that it is neither negative nor positive. So scientists use distilled water [because it will not effect their experiment] the way tap water will, which may have chemicals and elements in it that will have a reaction to the experiment. The fact that scientists use distilled water "because it's neutral", and that other people claim "distilled water is negatively charged" is a contradiction, and a lie. Besides that, Rain Water is naturally distilled by nature, and that is safe to drink. When it comes down to it, they just don't want us removing things like fluoride and other pollutants from the water when they put it in there to hurt us in the first place. u2.lege.net/whale.to/vaccine/fda2.html -Rx

Is the 100 better than 20? Also you use any maxpedition products?
@sawdustandsurvival
@sawdustandsurvival 9 жыл бұрын
Hi Scott! I've used both and found them to be equally effective, although apparently the DEET is the active ingredient that repels insects so in theory the 100 should be far more effective. I haven't found either to cause skin irritation but I guess it must do to some otherwise they wouldn't sell milder versions like this 20% one. Thanks for watching mate! More videos currently uploading. All the best. Andy

Re the Maxpedition products: I do love Maxpedition as a brand. I've reviewed their CMC wallet (check out my video) and absolutely love it. It's changed the meaning of EDC for me. I love their Cuboids too to organise gear. I used one to make a bug-out power-free toolkit.

Thanks Branden! That explains why it was so effective despite only being the 20 version. Thanks for watching. Andy
