Q&A Sailing in Corona times

Today's vlog: We have a Q&A about our background, how the life is off the grid for such a long time, especially with the corona, how our water is going, our fresh food, how we do sports. In short, how is it to live on a sailboat in these times:) enjoy!
On the 17th of April 2020 we left marina Port Ghalib in Egypt, heading south towards Sudan and Djibouti and finally Maldives. We will take it easy, enjoy the beautiful reefs of the red sea and keep an eye on the corona regulations of the ports we pass. Since many countries are closed we don't know where we will be allowed to go on land again, but we can survive 4 month without seeing anybody :)
This journey is only a small part of our trip that started 2 years ago. We got the sailing- skills on our friends yacht 'Shalom' when we joined them on a trip from the Netherlands to Spain. / @sailingshalom . In Spain we decided to go with our own boat, and in no time we were the happy owners of 'Messenger'. We left may 2018 and started vlogging from the beginning, we made 15 minute video's of our adventures, the nature and the many special people we met. We cooperated with OM to visit their projects and film them on our way. Since 19 of March we started with a daily vlog due to the corona situation. We plan to keep doing this the coming months.

Leuke Q & A weer! Hoop dat er na Soedan toch weer eentje komt! Zal weer eens broeden op een vraag 🙂 Mijn shape is ook een struggle in Corona tijd hoor. Nu de sportschool dicht is, giert de conditie achteruit 😕 Enne... mijn plekkie is tussen Ede en Wageningen, dus eigenlijk best in de buurt 🤪

Haha ja kan ik me voorstellen. Je kan natuurlijk prima zelf workouts doen evt via youtube ook. Maar dat vraagt toch meer discipline ofzo. O ja inderdaad das dichtbij, grappig!

Thank you. As always, a great mix of facts and good humour. From other sailing vlogs made during the Coronavirus crisis, some sailors who are stuck on board their boats are finding relationship issues very difficult. You seem to stay balanced and good humoured. Do you think this is because of your shared faith and the length of your friendship? (Am I the only viewer from Scotland, I wonder?)

Hi Charles, good to hear of you again 😁 thanks for your compliments. Yes it's not always easy to live 24/7 on a small space. But I think you're right, our friendship as basis helps us to just enjoy activities and adventure together. And the shared faith is a helpfull thing as well, mainly because it teaches us to be humble and to love the other one more then ourselves. Not that this is always what we do 😜 we fail a lot of times, but at least it's what we try and what we believe is the solution. So that helps :) Sorry about the mistake but I said 9 percent from England, but I meant United Kingdom😬😳 sorry for that. I can't see how many are from England, Ireland or Scotland in that group.

It is also great to be able to tell people about your channel knowing that there is something there for all ages, all underpinned by you faith (I have family who were with OM years ago).

Question for a future Q&A session: when kite surfing have you figured out a boat launching system yet? How about, how and where do you store all your gear on the boat?

Hi Matthew! Thanks for your response again and your questions. We have 3 kites, 2 boards bars and harnesses. But also a SUP, 2 surfboards, dive and snorkel gear 😁😁 Our boat is just packed.. We have a very deep storage space in the benches in the cockpit, that helps a lot. But besides that I don't know how we manage to take all that stuff 🤔😉

With the hand is nogal op zn louis van gaal's in het geval van handmatig, manually is beter denk ik😃

Je kan zeggen "to hand wash" of "to do laundry by hand". Ik ben blij dat ik een wasmachine heb ;).

That is a coincidence. I worked at Asco Controls BV from 1997 to 2018 as a sys admin. Petty that the bean counters moved the company to Ede. The time in Schepenzeel was good! Regarding the Anchoring question, on a sailboat it is always better to ask for forgiveness then for permission. The rules are often too complex and for an official it is much safer to say "no" when asked. If you do not bother any one and do no harm, the Official can easily look the other way :-)

Haha that we get this kind of advice from your mouth! That's unexpected 😊 but we agree, especially hin countries like this when the people in charge don't seem to agree on the rules themselves

@@sailingmessenger8125 Yes it was. 250 people when I joined. Now only 60 left. It all went to eastern Europe.
