Honestly, Connor's got more of a protaganist storyline than Garnt. Connor goes through trials that challenge him and prove his worth. Garnt has it pretty chill. Connor is the gritty protag in series like Fire Punch. Garnt is that one isekai protag who get blessed by god to be OP. Garnt wins and Connor just loses.

Connor is the kind of character that, through his trials, would either turn into the Joker or someone like Yasuke... I honestly can't say if it would make him a villain or hero. But I am leaning towards villain ^^ But Garnt is like that piece of shit dude who always gets away with shit and is lucky as hell and then boasts about it and it doesn't matter if Connor is the villain or hero, Garnt is for sure the guy he wants to take down and noone would even be mad about it ^^ (Not irl tho, I love Garnt haha but that's what the story seems like)

I am as old as Garnt. This podcast just sounds like a hangout and with my friends. All of my friends including me are married now. And our meet-ups have dropped from once a week to once in 3months. Not cause of marriage, just life does that to you when you get older. When I am listening to the podcast, in my head I am trying to give my opinion like I am also part of the conversation. Anyway these guys are great. I've been watching them for years now. And this podcast is something I look forward to every Saturday morning.

I know this is a joke but: Some turn based games are like pokemon or chronotrigger. Some are like fire emblem or final fantasy tactics. Chess feels more like on the fire emblem side which involves positioning and strategy, rather than just selecting actions similar to pokemon.

Just a quick note: the PCR takes the most time to process because it looks for the virus RNA, has to turn it into DNA and amplify it with a thermal cycler (not quite a centrifuge though it vaguely looks like one), a fancy little lab equipment. The antigen test is the “rapid test” people often talk about, is less time consuming because it looks for specific viral proteins rather than DNA. So yeah the bois had an antigen test done at the airport ;)

If you work in the lab, you would know that when you're doing a PCR, you use a 96 microwell plate to test multiple samples at a time. Most labs definitely don't test one sample at a time anymore, and at some of the labs I've worked in doing PCR, you can test over 1500 samples just in the shift you're working.

A fast pcr test literally takes 30 minutes for positve results to start showing. There's already papers showing crude dna extractions work to, reducing the time for a pcr test to like an hour total. Either way u best wait for well plates to be filled, but it could be a pcr test that they took. I hope eventually they make the shift to lamp tho. Lamp would allow faster and cheaper tests and it only requires hot water instead of a cycler, so ooga booga countries can test too...

As someone who's been waiting to get into japan for 1.5 years, that meant a lot Connor 🥺 "waiting with our lives on pause" is honestly the nicest version of it, but many were separated from their loved ones, some broke up, some had to pay on their apts for 1+ yrs, many lost belongings, a lot of us THOUGHT we were leaving so we canceled our apt leases. Many lived in short term housing and or sold everything, many quit their jobs, waited, then had to find new jobs. Started getting rid of/selling so much stuff in Jan 2020 & have had to live without. Got rid of my winter jacket many months ago, now I gotta go buy a new one 😅 it's caused so much stress depression and anxiety, and the frustrating part is many seem to pass it off as not a big deal, or "just wait til the situation gets better" not knowing we have to take 2-3 covid tests AND quarantine for 14 days. There's virtually no reason to not let us in now, yet we hear nothing

The student visa ban fucked all my plans. I was double majoring in Japanese, and at my college one of the requirements to graduate as a foreign language major is to study abroad. So, I was initially planning to study abroad during the fall 2021 semester (the current semester). That got cancelled, so I moved it to spring 2022. That got cancelled last month, forcing me to drop the major because I literally cannot complete the graduation requirements.

That's horrendous. Hopefully you can try again a year or so down the line maybe once students can enter? I can somewhat relate; I was supposed to be enrolled at a Japanese language school by now but my plans have been similarly Rodger'd. Haven't had to fully cancel yet but will have to do so by the end of the year if there's no further info on the ban being lifted as I am just sat around waiting for news, everyday unable to do anything.

I work in a school and I was in a room for 5-10 minutes in December 2020 that someone who had tested positive for COVID-19 had been in minutes prior. As a precaution, I was sent home to quarantine along with the other adult who had been in the meeting room. You get a scary email that basically says leaving your premises except for emergencies is a criminal offense and you could be fined and arrested and stuff. I was allowed to walk around my apartment complex premises but could not go anywhere and STOP while in a vehicle. So thankfully, I had a full-ish tank where I'd go for a drive after the work day ended (I still worked from home while quarantined thankfully otherwise I would've gone insane). I'd also walk around my complex when I had a "lunch break" just to get out. Being so isolated from occupying space with other people was so oppressive. Only communicating with people via phones and screens is dehumanizing after a while and you do get depressed. I was so happy when those quarantine days were up. It also gave me great perspective on our kids who chose to be fully remote last year as well as our tons of kids that were quarantined.
