​@@TheWoodWhirler Yea, "did one ever come loose?" Yes they do loosen up a bit once in a while. Not a big deal. But usually that is my fault for just not tightening them enough. I do use many different tools. I did watch your video on the Honey locust bowl. I saw you use two different scrapers. I think I could turn an entire bowl with ONE 5/8" bowl gouge. But I do spindle turnings, boxes, cast resins, hollow forms, thread chasing. (and I could go on....) So I have many tools and I do use them. So having a way to change tool steel is really important for me. It is not a luxury but an approach to make turing more efficient. I don't have to have more handles than I need. I don't agree that "All of use only use 3 or 4 tools. anyway." I have 2 or 3 styles of beading and parting tools, different size bowl gouges, different size spindle gouges and yes I have many different scrapers-both traditional and negative rake' But i always start by cutting NOT scraping, then finish up with a scraper with a good burr on the edge which allows the tool to cut. @@WYOMINGWOODTURNER Thanks Sam, I really only wanted to know if when they loosened did it cause a problem. I did not mean to start an argument or debate. I have over the years seen tons of your videos and learned a lot. For that, I thank and respect you. I'm sure you could have turned that honey locust bowl with a gouge, so could I. However, given the hardness of honey locust, you would have had to sharpen between 3 to 5 times. Thus is why I use carbides, I sharpen none. It would or could have taken you overall twice as long with the same end result, which is the objective is it not? Scraping is again a matter of opinion, my beaver is a scraper, no doubt. However, when I switch to a square or round cutter I use it at a 45- degree angle which is in fact, cutting or slicing. Using it horizontally is scraping. Actually using a cutter in my manner is more difficult to master than a gouge. I use a gouge occasionally, I just don't see a reason to. I get quicker and as good results my way, but that is my preference. It is not for everyone, I respect that. I use several different tools also, however for a single project I generally only use 2 or 3 tools as I am sure you do. To me, it's all about the end product, how one gets there is up to the turner. One way is no better or worse than the other. I put down no one for their method even when I disagree. Enjoyed it, take care, Larry
