I have rehabbed a hoarder house before. My mom inherited a house from her aunt that was in a touristy beach town in California. 17 dumpster loads, 90 bags of clothes to Goodwill, hundreds of yard sales, and 7 years later, my parents sold it and moved to Oregon for some god awful reason. I miss that house.

I had to go apartment hunting (renting instead of buying for me, but still), and I came across some very... INTERESTING... apartments. My "favorite" was probably one with a pink leopard pattern toilet, and a huge patch on the wall where I couldn't make out if it was missing tape or if it was random gross dirt, and the balcony was covered in cigarette butts. The only "selling point" for the landlord was that the apartment was close to a train station. I have later heard about several break-ins and even manslaughter (rest in peace poor innocent mailwoman 😟) in exactly that neighborhood. I *really* dodged a bullet there.

I was able to help get our family a house with my credit score and our’s was a little bit bigger than the “fixer-upper” and was not a hoarders house and cost around $200,000 in Cali. It was a lot of hard work saving up for a good down payment and adding everyone to my credit cards so their credit scores would be good. I was barely 20 at the time so instead of getting myself a house I thought it would be better to get a place for my parents and siblings. The only thing that kinda irked me was that the names on the deed are my parents and my older brother because they were afraid adding a house to my credit score would hurt it. I normally wouldn’t mind it but my brother constantly goes around saying that technically it’s not my house even though I did most of the work getting it. I feel like I gave a little too much info but the housing rant really got me because I think this will be the closest to “owning” a house I’ll ever get to and it sucks.

In defense of the fridge in the island what could have happened is that there used to be a wall there that they decided to remove since it wasn’t loadbearing and they wanted open concept. However, moving plumbing, such as might be required to the fridge if it has an icemaker or water spigot is incredibly significantly more expensive than people realize so it might’ve been the option financially to just leave the fridge in its place, honestly we have no idea without talking to the contractor they used.

Legitimate reason to have boulders in your house: great thermal mass. it helps keep the temperature of the house very constant. You can even have them ... for lack of a better phrase, plumbed so you have geothermal water flow through them. It keeps them very constant in temperature through the year, so the air is colder near them during the summer, and warmer near them in the winter. It really works great.

The house rant hurt because of how much it relates to me. I am now angry and depressed but glad to know I am not alone in this!

0:03 I have a house in HouseFlipper with a tree through it (it’s a modern “treehouse”) and trying to design around it was too annoying so I just sold the house XD 0:23 Yep! That’s right 4:49 No no, he’s got a point. Seriously, though; I’d only pay $120K for that house out of pity. 100k is a much fairer price, maybe even going down to 95k.

I really really am not the type of person to laugh at media I'm watching alone in my room but the CACKLE I emitted at "this is our ✨boulder✨ viewing room" was worryingly loud

I feel the same about house prices. I can't justify the cost of 350k for a house here even here in Australia. In the town I live out wages just can't keep up with the housing bubble. We are even being priced out of rentals.

2:00 - 2:18 looks like a place to a detective game and you have to look for certain objects to progress to another level.

The house at 3:35... I'm willing to pay $200 for it. Not $200k, but a flat $200. Literally someone is saying "come give me money and fix this thing up; it's useless but I'm desparate to make it someone else's problem."

For whatever reason, the way you said "did you say...indoor?" with a slight voice crack reminded me of Bob the Tomato.

The boulder houses reminds me of two levels of that application that I know. 1. The chapel I went to when I was a kid. They had this real stone wall in the basement from the hill it was built onto. 2. My former architecture prof actually had built a house, and specifically put a huge ass boulder right in the middle of the living room. Said he wanted nature inside if his house like this.... Looked ugly af

There's a movie where a couple bought a house only to find a guy living in the guest house. I can't remember if he was a squatter or if he had a rental agreement but the whole plot was them trying to get him to leave and in the end he ends up staying because they befriend him.
