Bought the forced air torpedo or aka salamander heater with 80.000 btu a couple of years ago to keep the shop warm during the cold winter months ... it works good but got tired of that thing being so loud cant hear someone talk cant hear your radio or anything else for that matter.
So I found this 70.000 btu kerosene radiant heater and WOW ... its quiet and better on fuel and I almost want to say better or more heat or should I say different heat.
The salamander cost around $200 and the Mr Heater around $260 id say well worth the extra $60
So now after 3 months of use and burning 120 gallon of diesel thru it ... how do I like it now ??? Well the warranty sucks because it started giving the E1 code as explained in the video so a long story short I still love this heater because it is quite and on average I burned 1.33 gallon per day in a somewhat insulated shop with 1650 square ft of floor space and if I have to give it a good guess id say its at least half of what the salamander would burn. But since I delete the "computer/print board" its been running great again and once again I'm impressed with it
So what do you think? Love it ? Hate it? Share your opinion.

One thing that the circuit board does is shut off the fuel if it gets hot, or loses ignition for some reason. By setting it up manually as you have done is great if it doesn't have any loss of ignition. If yours failed to fire it would just keep pumping fuel , which would be liquid /vapor unburnt fuel until the tank was empty. If pump continues to run without fuel it will be destroyed. The setup you created is best not left unattended, but I understand it eliminated the sensitive electronics and thus works.
@CountryMileGarage
@CountryMileGarage 5 ай бұрын
Once it's fired up you don't need ignition so the only time you'd have a problem is when you lose power and it comes back on. This was the best way I know how to keep this heater up and running instead of throwing it away ... thank you for watching
@concretecurt
@concretecurt 5 ай бұрын
I believe ignition is needed before and during the time the fuel selenoid is open. Ignition is required during firing, it does not ignite or continue to burnt without an ignition source. And it continually needs an ignition source, if you cut ignition it goes out /if you cut fuel it goes out. But if you cut ignition only it will continue to pump fuel which then goes unburnt. I understand what you have done, but why do you think there is a complicated circuit board /control board in these units?

@@concretecurt look here mister I have been running this heater for 2 years trouble free and it ONLY NEEDS IGNITION AT START UP look at the video again. I don't care what you believe I'm running this heater the way it is. There's no discussion about this if YOU don't like it or don't want to run it that is your call but don't tell me how this thing works or doesn't work !!!

I’m gonna do this I guess, I’ve had one for 3 winters now and the first winter it worked great, second one was ok had to adjust the fuel now and then, but this winter it’s been nothing but problems, can’t get the thing to stop throwing me the E1 code, calling the tech line from mr heater is like calling your local elementary school and asking for a random 2nd grader on the phone, I know 10x more about this machine than they do apparently. But I love the hater when it’s working, puts out great heat, burns clean, and isn’t that loud

That is great! I have the same heater and I use it outside in 20° weather and the only way to properly shut it off was to turn the thermostat to 41° which doesn’t work because the outside temp is colder than that. I put a fuel shut off valve on it so I can run it out if fuel and the cool down fan will still work. I love your idea and will modify mine once it starts acting up. Great heater other than that though.

Hello I removed the wiring harnesses an the circuit board from my heater. The fuel pump has a heavy blue and yellow wire coming from the main body. Ok so I wired it the way you did. I have fans. I have the ignitor working and I have fuel. All 3 switches work. But the heater still won't ignite. I took the heater apart a step further to see the nozzle. I can see a fine mist of fuel when I turn the fuel switch on. The I hit the igniter and it wants to light but won't. Any idea's?
@CountryMileGarage
@CountryMileGarage Жыл бұрын
@@pittsburghhustler412 double check fuel filter and take the nozzle apart and clean and blow that out. And you may need to mess with your fuel pump settings. It's hard to say what's wrong with out seeing it if you know what I mean. But not enough fuel or fuel pressure to make a fine enough mist could be the problem

Mine arrived today. Put it together, put in half a tank of kerosene turned it on, ran for 20 seconds then shut down. Shows an error code of E7 according to the book is motor speed fault.
