www.pakmasters.com, Puppy questions come to me daily. One of the biggest questions I get is what we do in our day to day routine with a new puppy. Here is some basic information on what we do in raising our puppies.

Hello Larry, I just wanted to say that it is refreshing to see there are still common sense trainers out there! I'm a retired Canine Behaviorist and my skin crawls with most of the training videos on KZfaq. I wish we had all these fancy phones and KZfaq "back in the day" LOL I'd love to look back on some of the problem dogs I used to train. Good times. Anyways, just wanted to drop a comment to let you know that I sincerely enjoyed watching this one and a few other videos of yours, it made my day to be honest to hear someone with common sense!!!! And AMEN on the puppy socialization!!! It's been 10 years since I retired and to this day it makes my skin crawl when I see dogs acting like fools, oh I'm sorry I meant to say, I see dogs that were TURNED into fools by ignorant, no common-sense owners, getting pulled all over the place, dogs jumping on everyone....UGH. I'm sure you know what I mean. Sorry this is so long, it's rare that I come across someone who trains dogs that impresses me and you sure did. Thanks!

This stream is super helpful! It’s so nice to hear your daily schedule for a puppy. Your expertise, wisdom and straightforward communication style has been a gift! I’m way old so your relaxed videos are refreshing! There’s so much info about puppy training-it’s overwhelming. We have a 12-week-old Samoyed pup. It’s easy to get pulled into expecting obedience goals possibly to early with KZfaq, etc. Our first Sammy wasn’t really trained and we all learned things the hard way! He was great, extra sweet and very noisy even at 14! lol They are quite a vocal breed - their talking is part of their charm. We didn’t handle it appropriately with our first. I encouraged him to bark excessively without realizing it. (This pupper is already more quiet and calm.) Sams are super awesome dogs and way healthier than the three Goldens we lost through cancer. Thank you for your service to our country and to dog families everywhere! Please forgive my rambling. Blessings.

Larry Krohn: I seem to learn the most from you as a trainer.Cause you teach in person & in detail while you explain things your doing as your doing it. I'm getting the Mini Educator ET-300 today & I have bought the e-collars from Japan before but broke down & bought the best as almost all trainers use on youtube.. I don't only watch your training videos is how I compare your videos with the rest.. Just keep up the excellent videos cause. If you lived closer to me I would have asked you to train my dog or dogs cause I have more than one. As you know I train my dogs for hunting wild hogs & thats alot easier than the training than you & all the other trainers do.Thank You & keep up the great work you do!

I have a 3.5 month old, Dominus, that has earned himself the middle name Ruffian. We have raised Rotties before, I've helped train and trained mine on my own. However this one is different, he has the intelligence, he has the natural instincts, he also has his own streak of stubbornness that is testing me. He learns commands in a day, but when it comes to potty training and not doing things, such as chewing or jumping on people, nothing I do to correct him is preventing it, he does it again.

Hey just came across your page and you are extremely helpful and informative for new owners. Being that I am getting a shiba next month I was wondering how you would approach the leash situation in a big metropolitan city? I live in an apartment building in NYC and I am apprehensive about having a shiba off leash on city streets. Btw I agree with you 100% on the off leash from day one lol. Any insite would help me build a great foundation for my new puppy.

Hey Mr. Larry I adopted a 1 year old hound and Rottweiler mix. There isn’t a whole lot of background on the dog but nonetheless how should I go about making dog training go well with an adopted dog? I would assume it’s the same with all dogs. I have seen a few of your videos and they are great and I will be trying them myself to help teach my dog as well. Adding to that he currently has heartworm so I was told to minimize exercise activities with him. Should I wait until he gets well which could be the next two months from now. Or should I train him now? I love my dog and am willing to bust my ass off to make things work. Thanks, Dave

Arent you worried having a puppy on the line all the time will cause separation anxiety issues? Im debating the pros and cons of having a puppy (8 weeks) in a playpen - who whines when we are out of sight or on a leash around the house which means they will want to be with us all the time. Potentially causing separation anxiety? Any advice would be great! Thanks 😊

Hello, my almost 4 months old labrador/ rottweiler mix likes to bite when someone tries to grab him, he bites hard. We also didn't know that puppies don't need to be out of their cradle, he is most of the time free in the house, when i try to put him inside he barks without stop. This is cery frustrating 😖

You spoke of your puppies being off leash and it not being a novelty to them. I am planning to get a Shiba Inu which is known to dart away from owners when taken off leash. Will early off leash training as a puppy prevent this for when hes an adult dog?

Question: I just bought a 9 week old GSD. Is it appropriate that I leave her in the crate for a couple of hours in increments while I am busy or preoccupied with school work? I feel bad for crating her like that, but like you, I don't leave her out if I can't follow her at all times to avoid potty accidents and destruction. I usually take her out after the 1.5 hour mark to use the restroom and stretch and play a little.

Larry can you give me some suggestions for my new male chihuahua puppy? He is a bit more skittish than my almost 3 year old female. My vet said to 'socialize him' more but he is 14 weeks old and they said to wait until after his last set of shots (in a few weeks) which I think would defeat the purpose. I have also run into aggression issues with my little guy with SOME treats and him snarling and going after me if he thinks I 'm going to take it. I've been reading and trying to make sure I am in charge with my energy around him and it has gotten a lot better!! Oh she is 5 pounds and he should be about the same. Is there a training collar/brand you'd suggest? Thx!

My 3 year old is so high energy that she cannot break the track her mind is on once she starts focusing herself into a barking frenzy. I thought if she heard a tone-since she often cannot hear me when she is focused on the neighbor or something in the street-I thought hearing the tone may break that focus for her so I could redirect her. Is that not a good idea? I dont want her to teach the new puppy the bad behavior.

I have a question...would you follow the same protocol with training a new puppy for your household? I currently have a Boxer mix (8 yr) and a Mastiff mix (2.5 yr) my husband and I are thinking about getting a puppy. We are trying to think how to create, potty, and leash train the puppy. Our current dogs sleep with us. Should we crate the puppy in front of the other two? or should they all be crated at the same time? We have stopped crating our two when we leave because they are trust worthy now...but a puppy is not so much trust worthy...thoughts?

Kelsey Poole I have the same questions. We have 3 adult (albeit small) dogs - 2 Chihuahuas and a terrier mix. We are getting a Jack Russell Terrier in a few weeks, he’ll be 8 weeks old. I’m not sure how to deal with the puppy separately and/or together for (house)training, feeding, sleeping arrangements - everything! If the pup is crated and the adults are loose I’m assuming he’s going to cry and whine while seeing them out while he’s locked in. He’s also going to be getting fed many times a day compared to them and I guess he’ll just be fed alone in a separate area a few times a day. Yes our 3 adults all sleep on our bed with us ( remember the 3 of them combined only weigh 28 lbs ) and I see difficulties ahead with a fourth dog regarding this practice. It’s a whole different ball game when you have numerous dogs of different ages, breeds and abilities. Any and all information regarding this would be appreciated !

I'm just wondering how long you leave your puppies on a long leash in the house? I know you said in another video that you don't leave them unsupervised in the house until at least one year. Does this mean they are always leashed during that whole time?
@Banetheshelterdog

Not necessarily on a leash at all times, non of our dogs get leashed in the house endless we are working on something specific but our puppies are never unsupervised in the house, if they try to go into another room we just call them back to us and reward when they get to us we only crate at night or when they are really young and need to nap during the day

Make sure the pup is hydrated but not fully of food. Keep pup in a crate & practice going slowly around the block stopping often to reassure the pup. Slowly build up to more & more distance. I did this 2x/day for a week & got up to 7-8 blocks by then. After that it was smooth going. Got rid of the crate for around town errands but use on long trips.

Love your content, brother. Awesome channel. I have a puppy question. I have an 8 month old male australian cattle dog. parents were working dogs on a cattle ranch here in central California. great prey drive and can play all day long. At 8 months, should I be expecting him to pay attention to me while walking by others dogs? He gets extremely distracted by other dogs or nearby people walking their dogs. Is this unrealistic? Will he grow out of it?? I am considering getting an e collar to help build more focus and snap out of it around distractions.

The most important thing you say in all your videos is two things and those are repetition and consistency. No matter what you want or expect from a dog everything has to start with those two things. I don’t follow your training to the tee and I also don’t have the same expectations. For example if the dog is going to be outside primarily while a person is at work they need to be outside a lot from a young age so you can address any issues that they may have being alone. How will you know if there is going to be issues if the dog isn’t exposed to being alone outside in the back yard if you don’t put them there? I have inside/outside dogs and so you sure better start young teaching them what you expect while your at work and they are outside or you are going to have serious problems.

The idea is that a puppy is crated for most of the time to develop independence comofort. He does take him out a lot to potty train and do play time and start non formal obedience training, but hes clear that all of these segments are relatively short in duration (train for 2 min, play for few mins, structure walk for few mins) and puppy is placed back in the crate. Thats my understanding at least.

Living in an apartment complex which requires the use of a leash at all times, in a city with same leash law rules, makes it impossible to do it your way. So, it's leash on at all times when outside. Only no-leash option is a local dog park, and I'm not sure I'm comfortable with that idea yet. I do want my energetic 4 month old Great Dane to be able to run around & be a healthy, happy puppy though. What to do?

TheThoughtPot I live in an apartment in a major city with a Labrakita and had the same issue when she was a puppy. I got used to taking her to the dog park early in the morning, preferably on weekdays if possible. There’ll still be some people there depending on how your area is but they’re usually the regulars with more understanding of raising dogs and better behaved dogs. It really helped me form community, figure out where to take my pup in the city, and my pup was able to see more healthy dogs consistently. I still keep to this rule now that she’s 6 years old and she’s happy and well mannered. Hope it helps!

You should train him to follow you & come when you call...use treats/play/petting/vocal cues ''good boy'' when he makes eye contact w/ you, when he comes to you in general and also do specific training for this. And then, as Larry says in his videos, variate the use of the leash outside...let him be out w/o a leash as well, for him not feel a novelty when he's off it once in a blue moon and just take off.

If u live in apt, start in the hallway. If u have a backyard, ur lucky. If u live in the city, like I do, perhaps the roof where it's enclosed but spacious. If you no roof, maybe a basketball court early in the morning. Even if ppl are playing, the place is enclosed and you can WORK on your dog b4 doing it in a real outdoor situation with kids or other dogs.

I understand the logic and the concept of making him mentally prepared for the rest of his life, but that's a bit sad I think to not letting him being able to experience things in the house by his own. But ye I understand. You said you can let him alone in the house when he's 2 years old. Why that much time of experience ? Isn't 1 year enough ? If we get him used to the crate and leave him alone in the crate alone in the house when he's something like 7 months old is it that bad for him ? I got the concept and the logic, but I'd like to know why some of those details are that accurate. You also make it sound like there are a lot of possibilities to prepare the mental of the dog for when he's older do you know any others pro trainer that works differently in a way that you approuve ? If yes why and if not why ? Kinda a lot of questions and I don't think you'll have time to answer them all but meh I gotta try x)
