We did RB30 vs 2JZ engine block comparison, now its time to test and compare their little brothers. The RB25DET and the 1JZ-GTE engine blocks.
Please note, we are only testing the bare block, no other ancillary parts that go with it.

So much more respect for the Supra’s 1J/2JZ engine after watching these videos. They engineered the crap out of these engines, no wonder they’re so legendary.

yeah I am practically a fanboy of the JZ engines, but even I never realized how overengineered and well made these engines are. I knew they were good, but I didn't think they were *THIS* good, it absolutely blows my mind.

@@TheProtagonistGabber what on earth? s50 cost somethink like 2000-6000€. that is not that expensive. at least here in germany. on the other hand we definitly do not have a shortage on bmw blocks. they are fairly good. the real weakness are the connection rod bearings. you have to change those every 100k km. otherwise my e36 works perfectly fine, despite having 380bhp (airbox, cams, ecu).

Thanks for the video and the objective numbers! One correction: the video says deck height, but I think deck thickness is meant. The deck height is the distance between the crank centerline and the top of the deck, essentially the block height. This is the main difference between a 1JZ block and a 2JZ block: the 2JZ block is the taller of the two.

Great video again guys. The 1JZ was designed by Yamaha for Toyota, as a replacement/upgrade to the M series Toyota six cylinder engines. The 7m gte which came in the JZA70 Supra was a great engine but suffered from overheating, head gasket and head stud issues where the head would tend to lift at high boost. As a die hard RB man, these videos are heartbreaking, but give credit where it's due, the JZ engines are monsters.

Im a bit paranoid about the oiling issues with my RB25 and RB26 can anyone point me in the direction of a thorough guide on how to modify to make sure there is never an oiling problem?

Hmm I found that video very interesting. I understand the rb25 block is heavier than the 2j but fully built isn't the rb25 engine still considered lighter than the 1jz? Thank you for the video!

It would be interesting if you could also do the RB20DET block just to see what you find.

@@MotiveVideo Fair enough mate, more than happy to wait. Just stoked you didn't leave the RB20 out. Very interesting series.
