In this video we are going to modify this snow racer to go on any surface. The electric motor has peak thrust of 77kg with a propeller and can burst 40kW of power. I removed the 3D printed tire and replaced it with an ATV tire with gears and a chain.

This is why I like RCLifeOn. Instead of fixing the obvious issues like: almost no downward force on the rear tire, the point with the highest amount of downward force being the greatest point of friction (the sleds), etc. - he drills screws into the tire.

looked the tires up, "sunf a003"....they have a directional arrow...@framegrace1 you are correct

Was thinking the same. Tyre is definitely mounted wrong, loose material like snow and sand will be pushed inwards this way and the wheel wil slip mount it the other way around so the material gets pushed to the outside which will also give it more momentum forward
@Trust_me_I_am_an_Engineer
@Trust_me_I_am_an_Engineer Жыл бұрын
Yes, you're right, of course. I went outside to look at the tyres (BKT 6.5 / 80-12)on my two wheel tractor and sure enough, the v at the bottom has the wide end facing in the forward direction. They have a directional arrow , so it's hard to make a mistake when fitting them.

You could also embed wheels into the skis so that on non-slick surfaces it would roll rather than try to slide. On snow it would still slide. You might would have to widen the skis bit though.

You got the right idea for sure! You need more weight over the rear tires but also those aluminum arms are probably flexing a little as well. Maybe try adding like a triangle style brace going from near the axle up above to where the motor sits and back down to the frame. Love the stuff you come up with and cant wait to see how the next video goes with this build! 😊👍👏

The tire is lifted up by the skids, that's why you don't go. Get back to short studs and make the tire stick out like 5cm compared to the skids. Also moving (angle) skids would work waaay batter, as the wheel would always be in full ground contact. Nice one, as usual, waiting for part 2!
@SteveEh
@SteveEh Жыл бұрын
I wonder if removing the side skids altogether would help. The bars would be enough for stability. Or at the very least cut them down significantly to reduce drag. This thing should be an absolute ripper!

It might also help to let some air out of the tire so it will compress a bit and have more surface area. Its an ATV tire, so its made to have a lot more weight on the tire to compress it at the recommended PSI.

Try adding removable inline skate wheels internal to the sled, so that they come into contact with the surface that you are on. There is way too much friction between the sled and the surface that you are trying to traverse. When on snow or ice, just simply remove the wheels to slide on the sled. You'll probably to wax the bottom of the sled for this
@conorstewart2214
@conorstewart2214 Жыл бұрын
Another comment gave me an idea that may work very well for this. At the moment your skids are fixed in reference to the frame, some skid based vehicles have the skids mounted on bearings so the skids can always be parallel with the ground and follow the contours of the ground, which hopefully increases surface area and therefore decreases the pressure between the skids and the ground which should help with friction and weight distribution. It would also allow the back wheel to always be in contact with the ground as much as it can, without it kind of being held up by the skids. Overall rotatable skids would be a very good idea for this, they would also help with going from the flat onto hills since the skids could rotate to match the angle of the hill whilst still keeping them in proper contact with the ground.

Bro, if you actually want it to work from start up on soft surfaces without giant spikes you need to lengthen the front end by about a meter or two. Just bolt the front of a bike frame on there ;-). Keep your seating position the same, that shifts your CofG way rear of teh new wheelbase (as everyone is saying) and takes pressure off the skids. Also whatever: we enjoy the ride 🙂

awesome video man. always glad to see you come out with unique and interesting different ways than i would have thought of to conquer design issues. I hope you're careful using those seriously big batteries next time. series is definitely gonna punch the throttle but if you are spinning a wheel that fast, covered in nails you could potentially send the nails flying at someone far away, or worse at your back while you're sitting there, or EVEN WORSE at one of the LiPo cells, lotta amps discharging very fast. be careful bro take care.

Impressive that you got it moving on pavement and gravel. The friction is huge! Even on snow, the friction is signifikant from those beat up snowracer skiis. For this kind of build, I would suggest you buy a mig-welder and use steel profiles or tubes. You can do so much with a welder, angle grinder and some basic hand tools.

You should use a proper crimping tool. By crimping, single copper strands will fuse into a solid copper core. Bad crimps will eventually come loose or will have a bad electrical connection. Nice build anyway!
