I think being a single mom in general makes you strong. I’m a girl mom and I teach her how to put air in her tires, I teach her how to assemble furniture, give her lessons on taking care of her car. I do agree that you should love being a boy mom because that’s what you are. Just like I love being a girl mom because it’s what I am and it’d be weird to regret or wish anything other than what God gifted us.

Getting kids to like reading is hard to do but so important! Once they get phones and turn teens its super hard so do it young!! Dont wait! My tip for kids liking reading! Find books your kid wants to read instead of choosing for them. That was key for us!! Boys like gross books with farting and boogers lol but they laugh and its fun instead of a chore. Captain Underpants, Dogman and Diary of a whimpy kid are all great starting books when they learn to read. Comics and books with pictures help. They are a lot of times intimated by book with just words. Go to the library or used book stores to let them look through and pick their own books that will encourage and make them be more willing. It is also good to do together and make a weekly thing for you and you children!

Thank you for the moment to pray for us teachers! 🙏🏾 I am a 4th grade writing teacher and previous Special Education Teacher, I appreciate this topic so much. It eye opening to hear a parent’s perspective. Thank you for reading with them, in front of them. Kids mirror what they see. Please continue. & Yes advocate for your children. Every child learns differently and it’s our job to let them know that that’s okay! Love the podcast!

We are definitely a reading household. I used to read to my daughter all the time. Now, she reads one book a night Monday -Thursday and then I read to her after. When she was younger she’d ask me to read like 5 books and I couldn’t say no. The sight word strategy her teacher was using in Kindergarten did not work well so I switched to phonetics and she got it within weeks. She’s gotten 100% on every spelling test this year (1st grade) and has just blown me away. We did summer reading too. Love that you’re both so focused on reading with your kids. I plan to do family reading time on weekends at some point but not there yet.

Love this conversation, it starts really early I have an 11 year old and started a programme called My baby can read with him at 4 months old to teach him basic sight words. Love what Shan said about showing your child that we read all the time and it's not anything to be fearful of x
