Florida traded Reilly Smith to Vegas to ensure they also took Marchessault. FLA chose to shield their defence core by protecting Mark Pysyk and Alex Petrovic, and working a deal to keep Jason Demers from being scooped up. Those player they chose to protect via this deal are no longer on a NHL team.

This was a hard one for me to watch as a Panthers fan. I had to go away for a bit during the game before coming back to watch just before the end of the game to see the Cup celebration. Still happy for a bunch of the guys (Stone, Hill, Karlsson, etc.). So even though I have a heavy heart, I give my Congratulations to Vegas.

Congrats to Vegas, I was really rooting for Fla but I can be happy for Vgs. Well executed series, Fla was never really close. Eichel has grown on me a bit this play-offs, winning a Cup before McDavid; didn't see that coming.

Panthers fan here, and I sincerely congratulate the Golden Knights. Clearly, Vegas was the better team from start to finish. Our guys gained much needed experience for future runs. We had a magical run, but again, much credit and good fortune to Vegas. Enjoy it, boys, it was a well-earned championship!!

Classy. Hopefully they learned to pick their spots physically in the future. One team was severely banged up, the other was 90% healthy. Florida endured some hard miles with the way they play.

These runs always seem to teach the teams what it takes to win. You guys got great experience and I think you'll be back soon. The VGK got that starting 5 years ago. Such a different team now with staying level-headed.

Panthers had alot of injuries. I hope things get better for them next season. Looks like its going to take 6'4" TO 6'6" player to win a cup now. In the old days it was a good Goon that was needed now its Giants. Just watch and see how everything changes when teams pick there athletes in the following years. It already started with behemoth Goalies. If a athlete is under 6'3" he will most likely be rejected.

Thanks for that. Panthers were fun as hell to watch and the team I was pulling for (until the final). Watching them take down Boston was amazing. I honestly think they just ran out of gas and were too banged up by the final. Great run and they will be back

Grew up watching the Las Vegas Thunder " A non NHL team" and playing street hockey in Vegas with friends. Having no home pro team as a kid rofl this means alot to me and my friends. Being a 3rd generation family i cant tell you how much Vegas loves our Golden Knights. No other sport team will replace them. Vegas is the fight capitol of the work but we are a hockey city as far as the main stream sports go. So stoked.

I remember the Aces . The Thunder . Saw the Wranglers lose the Kelly Cup after I moved to SW Florida . Vegas will always be home and I am proud of this team

Man I can’t even explain how thrilled I am about this! I started following VGK in 17 after a brutal divorce. They were my escape, next thing I knew they become my favorite team in all of sports with hockey becoming my favorite sport. I had a real good feeling about them this year, but I didn’t want to be overconfident. Cassidy and a healthy Eichel have made the difference and put us over the top. This is it!! To all the VGK fam out there this is our time, GO KNIGHTS GO!!!

Congrats to Eichel. Being a Sabres fan super excited when we drafted him, watched his highlights from Boston University, Went to his first game he scored. Bought a jersey when he got captain. From having the turn on the team and having a rough exit from here. Going to all the games against Vegas and having the boos the first game back. Always rooting for his downfall but come around this playoff run was super entertaining to root for him. Although alittle but if me wishes that he was still in buffalo. Glad he won

There’s a reason Buffalo has been in the dumpster for 12 straight seasons now, and what they did during Jack’s tenure with roster fumbling, with coaching fumbling, and most despicably attempting to control what operation Jack had done on his own body, is only part of why that franchise has been a laughing stock, and still is even today. Now that Jack Eichel has won a Stanley Cup, following an INCREDIBLE run on his own part, it’s clear as day who messed up in the Eichel-Sabres feud, and the Sabres now must live with the images of Eichel winning a cup before them for all of eternity… that to me, after how the Sabres treated him, is pure bliss.

It was a fun ride and it was an unfortunate ending but it made me proud to be a panthers fan. Excited to see what Zito does this summer. Just hoping for a more consistent regular season next year. Was a great and unexpected Cup Finals run. There was a lot of doubt in my mind if the Panthers would even make the playoffs, let alone going to the Finals. Zito was vindicated by Tkachuk’s playoff performance. The Panthers wouldn’t be here without him. I feel sorry for Marc Staal, that was probably his last chance to win the Cup. I hope they stay healthy and come back next year.

As a Miami born and bred Puerto Rican who was the only puerto rican kid playing ice hockey 😂 I still love my Panthers. They had magnificent run similar to Vegas's inaugural season. It felt magical. I've posted before I haven't seen my father in over a decade but we stayed on the phone together each game until the end. The Bruins come back, Going 11-1 from the Leafs through the Canes. Being undefeated in OTs. They we're playing playoff hockey way before the post season just to clinch one game before the last game. Tkachuk and Bob played great until the finals. They just ran out of steam but for us having a president trophy season and then make it to the finals the next season I couldn't be more proud. I'm especially proud of Marshessault being an ex panther he has always been great. Adin Hill also deserved the Conn Smythe what a tough choice. Eichel and Stone coming back from injuries. Karlsson having an amazing post season run. It wasn't hard to watch for me, they looked tired. Especially Bob . I do feel for him and Barkov. Both are underated. The Panthers have about two years before their contracts start causing some issues. Hope to see them back. Congratulations Vegas and be safe. After the Denver incident I realized this is still just a game and it should never go to that level.

As a Vegas fan I felt the same watching the Caps lift the cup after game 5 in 2018 (except for Wilson 😉). It’s disappointing to fall short but it’s hard not to get excited for the players and their fans celebrating a huge achievement.

I remember my grandpa, on the porch of his house in Pilot Mound Manitoba, in the 80's, talking about the day it would be Florida and Las Vegas in the finals. It brought a tear to his eye. He's gone now, but hopefully he's watching from up there! This Las Vegas win is for you grandpa!

At least one of these statements is true. The Vegas Golden Knights are one of the best Champions we've seen in years. The Florida Panthers is one of the worst teams to ever make it to the finals.

@@casinosavant Ayyy fellow wings fan! I’m one as well. The reason I root for this team is bc of the Raiders moving to Vegas. Yet these Golden Knights earned a place in my heart when they made a big run in year 1. I’m a happy hockey fan tonight tho that’s for sure! :)

There's a picture of Kolesar looking down at Tkachuk after leveling him, with Tkachuk looking dazed. That hit felt like the nail in the coffin, and knowing now that impact broke #19's sternum and collarbone makes it even more intense. Radko Gudas screaming at Woll and Keegan Kolesar looking down impassively at Matthew Tkachuk might be the images that stick with me most from this postseason.

I was in the plaza outside T-Mobile Arena to watch the game. It was CRAZY loud-as if I were inside the arena or something. Cheers, "SHAME" chants, "GO KNIGHT GO" chants, "WE WANT THE CUP" chants, "WE OWN THE CUP" chants, etc. Looking at aerial footage of the plaza was INSANE. There's a bunch of heads in that one plaza and a decent amount of people passing out. It was a great atmosphere out there.

I expected a close race in the finals, but Vegas was just too good. I'm really impressed by how they played and how ruthless they were. It felt like everyone stepped up and played at their best, perhaps even beyond their best. The attack pressed, chased and made things difficult up front and also scored the important goals. The defence shut things down and made things difficult for the opponents. Combine that with a goalie that was superb and you have yourself a winning team. Hats off to Vegas. I am so very impressed.

Florida absolutely fumbled the bag in this series. Credit to Vegas tho, they made it undeniable in this series. I'm legally obligated to hate the Knights, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't happy for Stone and Eichel.

Im happy for Jack Eichel. The guys had nothing but heaps on heaps of criticism for two straight years dumped on his shoulders, abouthow hes not a professional player, hes childish, he screwed the sabers ovwr all of it. But hes proven through this entire post season that he really truly is a star player in the league. And ...... He did win a cup before McDavid. Interesting little bit there if i say so

The criticism was earned. Eichel appears to have matured over the past couple of seasons and now he has a Cup, so good for he and the Knights.

A lot of the things “dumped on” Jack Eichel are well deserved. He is all those things you described, but managed to force a trade out of Buffalo to a very good Vegas team. Yes, he got a Cup before McDavid, along with a lot of other top players. He’ll never be the player or person that McDavid is and that others are, but this year he came out on top because he had a great team around him. Congrats to him and Vegas.
