In this video (part 1 of 2), I tackle how to correct a nose wheel shimmy on my PA38-112 Piper Tomahawk. I showed the steps I took to replace the nose tire, inner tube, and wheel bearings on a Cleveland wheel assembly that can be applied to most general aviation aircraft.
Nose wheel shimmies are experienced on many different nosewheel / "Tricycle gear" equipped aircraft. There are many common causes such as flat-spotted or worn/out of balance tires, worn torque links or other worn steering components. I'm hoping this video gives you some insight on what to look for if you are experiencing a shimmy.
After the work, I took the aircraft for a test flight over beautiful Southern Alberta to see if the shimmy has been corrected. Thank you for watching!
