In this video I demonstrate how to remove old rusted fenders and replace with new, using light steel fabrication techniques with the help of my Dad. I use a 220v Forney Mig Welder with .035 flux core. I also put a few clips of my dog Pearl towards the end. I usually do wear gloves especially when I'm using the stick welder or welding thicker metal with the mig.

Great instructional on fitting up the fenders to make them look OEM. I will add one suggestion on the Flux-Core, the MIG will be happier with a bit more heat. For what little it is worth I learned to weld wearing brown cotton gloves and to never touch thing hot...

At the end are you referring to running with my dog or the tiny planet pic? The last thing I want to do is appear to be copying his style. I think we just have similar styles. I am trying to keep my channel as unique and original as possible. I think I have a different style of blending my music and angles, but ultimately mine and Andrew's content is very similar. Have a couple questions: Why put the angle iron on that way, it now has a chance to hit the tire if overloaded ? An inch of weld would be much better than a spot weld ? Just a suggestion, soak that wood with some type of oil to make it last forever ! Other than that, beautiful job and thumbs up !

@arnoldromppai5395 5 жыл бұрын
if your a welder and know how to weld, a spot weld, is all you need. the thickness of the metal is all you need for a weld, it hold more then the metal ever will, i have tach welded a tow bar onto an old 5 ton truck and towed it home down the hyw and a very tight turn on to my side road, so tight my truck pulled that old heavy 5 ton side ways on the turn, not a problem, and have done the same many a times, 7018 welding rod holds 70,000 Lbs. per 1/2" providing the metal is 3/8". half of 3/8" would be half of 70,000 Lbs, but unless your a licensed welder dont try this, a wire feed welder is onlt ment foe all new clean steel, not dirty or rusty metal, they are a production machine, learn to weld with stick rod before ever picking up a wire feed, right tool for the right job, these sheet metal fenders it dont mater as tey dont need much to hold them on, a good gas shielded 0.22 wire, wire feed it is what is used in body shops on all body metal work these days, but a cheap wire feed has to much acc blow, and will only blow holes in body metal, specially them junk 110 v ones

great idea to change the color from yellow to black. It looks so much better now and those new fenders are bitchin .... But when you first pushed the trailer in the workshop, it looked like it was mighty tight going in through the door. Be honest, how close was it to get it back out with those new fenders being a few inches wider than before? Did you measure beforehand to make sure it would fit, or did you 'get lucky' on this one? ;)
@jmuller86

It was a little tight, I built the opening 9' wide but because I didnt grade the surrounding area before it froze, the doors wouldnt open all the way and I only had about 8' of clearance. Thanks for watching

Metal fenders rust out very quickly due to the water being forced like a jet into the steel, add a few days of salt into the mix and it very quickly deteriorates. I checked over the frame/axles and they were in great shape. Pearl is actually 10 yrs old, still looks like a puppy though.

I have beening looking and thinking about buying one Saw ...... if yours bit the bullet tomorrow,,,,,,,, would you go out and buy it again,,,, I would shy away from it....... but I love Milwaukee TOOLS,,,,,, I have owned Milwaukee tools since 1978..... Get back to me on this one please....... When I did trailer fenders they was a fabrication shop close by... went with the 3/16 diamond plate had them all bent up cost me a few hundred bucks back 20 years ago...You might want to do this to the fenders take some chainsaw bar oil and spray them on there once you get them all put up and get them painted on the underneath keep the calcium in the crap off the fenders just an FYI junkman do
