Lots of things happened last week. I am finally trying to finish the old French desk that I started working on about 2 months #chateau #chateaudiy #movingtofrance #renovation #vlog #19thcentury #castle #countryside #loirevalley #saumur ago. Also, why are my rose cuttings are not doing so great?
Revealing yet another part of the property that includes some pretty amazing horses stables, and some other projects.

Try putting some stones or broken tiles in the bottom of the clay box. Make sure there are drainage holes in the bottom of the pot too.

I did that. But perhaps too few.

Re: the wild boars! At some point you may need to fence off the property line to keep them out if you decide at some point to start a vegetable garden. A solar charger driven electric fence should be enough to restrict them but not hurt them. You have done an amazing job. Dont worry about us. We will be fine, do what makes you happy and learn a new task along the journey. A note on the roses: they dont like sitting in water, however they will need some gravel at the bottom of the planter for drainage and also horse manure is great fertilizer. Google when you get a chance about care of roses.

Yes, I overwatered them when we were traveling. Perhaps that caused the problem. We will be fencing in the future for sure! The current ‘garden’ is next to the building, so they don’t dare to go there but once I move it into the permanent location, fence is a must.

I think you need to use a good paint primer like Kilz before you start your first coat of paint. It seals and blocks old stains from bleeding through the new paint.

Above the gas boiler it looks like mold so I would scrub it with bleach or something that will kill the mold.

Wow imagine having so much money that even their stables were built to that level of finish!

I just have to say that the house looks wonderful now that you have cleared all the growth, vines, and wood from it. Also, the stable room paneling is GORGEOUS!!!! The blue wallpaper is quite a find. Keep up the good work. Thank you for sharing with us, and I know we all look forward to seeing your progress. All the best!

Roses are known for not thriving with "wet feet". Can you create drainage out of the bottom of your striking pots? Also, they have already "struck", so it may be time (as another viewer has suggested) to repot larger. But don't let them be soaked without the water having a means of draining out. 💛

I have refinished quite a bit of furniture. You must shake the stain well or it will be very uneven. Unless you can sand the damaged areas out the stain will just make them darker. Before painting in the kitchen you must clean everything really well. Perhaps using a primer paint it if hasn’t been painted for many years would help. I would use it all over as the first coat. My dear you are a hard worker. Keep researching on utube. I enjoy watching you and wish you the best.

The paint is reacting to what is on the wall. A stain blocking primer will cover it (kilz) or (Bins) is the brand mostly used in the states but you might find the equivalent where you are. Look for all stain blocking so you dont have keep climbing the ladder. For pipe area you can also use a sprayer form. Sot at your local hardware store. Or get it online?

Kilz has oil based primer. See if you can invest in renting a paint sprayer. It requies taping off to prep but you can paint angles and surfaces much quicker.

Yes, you are right. Will plant them directly into their permanent place in the spring, new cuttings if needed. This was just a test. I will need a whole lot more bushes.

Also you should stir the stain before you apply it you could have wiped and blended it while it was still wet. You should have read the instructions Lol❤❤❤❤😘

I’ve heard other say that paint in France isn’t very good with coverage. Many British in France buy the brand “Little Green” because it has better coverage. But it is pricier. I think someone said they have Valspar brand there which is good too. And oil base could be the right option. I have seen where some others used paints which peeled, but I think it was latex over original paint which was most likely oil based I would think? Anyways 🙌🏻 Rome wasn’t built in a day. Give yourself a break. You’ll be great no worries! It takes time to learn.

Interesting, I haven’t heard that one before. I am kind of stuck with ‘bricomarche’, maybe I should explore the area better and find a better hardware store with more options.

When painting surfaces you dont know the paint origin of, use an undercoat. This also go for sharp colours. Undercoat covers a multitude of sins and give you a good base for the topcoat. Also, the more expensive paint you buy, the better cover you get. Trade grade paints are very good. Build a box for your pipe clusters in the kitchen. Even a not so well made box looks better than the pipes. MDF is a very good material to work with as a beginner. Good luck 😉

Totally agree with you on both. Getting a primer next week. I did pay attention to the paint I picked out and it was supposed to be the best one available in those large buckets. I was going through the smaller containers very fast. It does give a good coverage. Will look into pipe covers once the kitchen is installed. They are a total eye sore.

I have a feeling you haven’t stirred the bottom of the stain can. Maybe the reason it is streaky?

Can you make the small bedroom bigger by combining with the next door room

Not possible. It would be too big of a job, plus, the next room is really a small dining room. No other place at that apartment to put table and chairs but in there.
