Great video brother, and great analysis, can’t wait for part two! All this piece of shit film did was completely destroy the meaning of the first six films by ruining Anakin’s redemption arc, and disrespecting Luke’s growth as a hero. What pisses me off the most is that they managed to kill every character that we cared about in Star Wars meaning the big 3, Han, Leia, and Luke and obliterated the Skywalker bloodline for good. Sorry I don’t count fake Rey Palpatine stealing the Skywalker name. 🤮 I hate it that we have no Skywalker children alive to carry on any legacy! Fuck Disney, Krapleen Kennedy, Ruin Johnson and Jar Jar Abrams for completely shitting all over and successfully killing a wonderful franchise.

Yeah but the original movies aren't even that good. I didn't see them until I was an adult and could see them objectively without nostalgia clouding my vision. Star Wars sucks, the movies have always been terrible. The prequels are actually decent movies, sure they're deeply flawed, but the whole franchise is. But people treat the franchise like gospel. You can't criticize the original movies without having someone jump down your throat. These movies are enjoyable but bad, they've always been enjoyable but bad.

Introducing a mystery is fine, but you have to have at the very least a remote idea what you plan as a resolution for it. Introducing mysteries and plot angles and never following through with them or resolving them in throwaway lines leads to an audience that doesn't care about them anymore. If you give me a plot hook and want me to be invested in it, you must not tell me 9 out of 10 times that it's only a red herring without meaning. Because then my reaction to your mysteries is understandably "why bother?"

Listen to GOOD writers and they don't talk about ANYTHING like a "mystery box" they talk about things like "conflict", "empathy" and "change" also "ideals" things utterly lacking from JJ's work. Yes, there fundamentally isn't a conflict as everyone wants the same thing, for Rey to face Palpatine.

Learning the wrong teachings and fighting Darth Sidious, he lost and ran away to Dagobah. Was Luke being a Jedi when he had Vader at saberpoint? He beat him with a lightsaber then, but he became a true Jedi when he saved the mass murdering monster that is Vader.

Good news! You're right. There was no direction to it. Maybe, just maybe, there was an outline for the first two, but not for the ending. (To be fair, he knows he's bad at endings.) But that was thrown out in film 2's writing. Leaving movie 3 to be a mess, and not just because the guy who avoided writing an ending because he knew he's bad at them, was stuck writing it. The horrific editing isn't helping either.

So much wasted potential. They had Mark Hamill, Carie Fisher, and Harrison Ford. They had all the good stories from the Expanded Universe and endless possibility to make something even better. They had the opportunity to create the seminal female lead movie character of the decade.

It very much saddens me as Luke has always been a genuine inspiration for me. I watched the movies as a kid and felt like I was on the journey with him, he was like a solid foundation that would never break no matter. I could always watch Star Wars and feel secure that I was with Luke Skywalker.

If JJ wasn't involved with Last Jedi at all I would question more of Rian's choices, but as EP of the film. In some ways I liked what Rian did watching TLJ again after TROS. I didn't like Snoke much, he was too close to a Palpatine figure, only to have Palp return...(facepalm ... i despised that choice as well, they could have made it work without without Palp, they're highly paid story tellers...tell me a story (i haven't heard already). Anyway don't want to write another essay, I went into this trilogy pretty neutral, liked the characters early on, but they just didn't go anywhere for me. What really did it for me was bringing Palpatine back, it really should just be called Rise of Palpatine.

Or they could just have brought back Darth Plageous instead of old Palpy, with him having been it all along, tricking his apprentice into killing him but staying alive (hey, if they can resurrect old Sith lords, at least do it with one we always wanted to see!) and watching, waiting for the perfect moment to return to take his throne, which is now, when both sides are wheezing and trying to catch their breath, so he could ascend to the throne. Rey and Kylo find out that it's Plageous who wants them to fight each other, because they are of about equal power and Plageous can only overpower the mind of either of them in a weakened state so he can take over their body, so he wants them to keep fighting until the stronger one of them remains for him to possess and live on. They resolve their conflict and band together to hunt down the tomb of Darth Plageous, together with the rest of the band. We learn that the tomb of Plageous had the power to extract his essence from his dead body (we get to see some withered and decayed skeleton in the tomb, which is what remains of Plageous body) and store it in a holocron. They find the holocron and Finn picks it up, releasing the ghost of Plageous who takes over Finn's body. Finn comes back to the others and acts normal for the most part but try to seed more hatred between Kylo and Rey to get them to fight again. They are on the verge of fighting when they figure out that something is amiss (hey, someone else can come up with that part, ok?) and Finn/Plageous drops the facade and draws a light saber. We get to see a lightsaber battle of Rey and Kylo on one and Finn, possessed by Plageous, on the other side, Kylo cuts off Finn's hand much like Vader did to Luke in Ep5 and Rey goes in to deliver the killing blow when she realizes, when Finn laughs at her and encourages her to strike him down, that she would only kill Finn, essentially learning that with all her power, she would only kill her friend, not the Sith Lord. Kylo is about to do it, so Rey fights Kylo, trying to get him to understand that they just can't kill everyone around only to defeat Plageous. Plageous in the meantime moves on to Poe and watches the battle. This is shown to us, the audience, as the ghost leaving Finn and moving on toe Poe, unknown to the two combattants who are too focused on the battle and the discussion between them. Kylo eventually understands Rey and they end their battle, returning to Finn to see how to get Plageous out of his body when Poe/Plageous walks up behind them (camera shot from over his shoulder as he moves past the fixed camera from behind, I love that angle for shots like that). He shoots lightning at both of our heroes with the express intent to fry them or at least weaken them both enough so he could finally take them over, when Chewbacca comes up from behind and lifts the unsuspecting Poe/Plageous up (think how Vader in Ep6 lifted the Emperor), causing lightning to reflect from all around the cave walls to create one hell of a flashy effect, with him eventually throwing Poe/Plageous down a cliff, pretty much repeating the climactic scene from Ep6. Only that this cliff is not deep and ends in a reactor, it is about 5 feet deep and ends in Plageous tomb which comes to life and extracts the old Sith Lord's ghost from the unconscsious body of Poe. Plageous' ghost zooms over to the two recovering Force users and tries to possess Rey (or Kylo, your choice), but they manage to combine their willpower to struggle against the possession, both of them essentially using the force to grasp at Plageous and literally tearing him apart. What? It's still a better story than what Ep9 did, and I just hacked this together while typing it!

@@mrdbznarutofan1 They share the blame. Both are incredibly incompetent. Each in different way. JJ is pure crowd pleaser, a copycat who always tries to siphon the ideas of others. Same as he did with two StarTreks. Rian is a fool who thinks too much of himself and think everything is supposed to be subverted. His jokes and subversions either do not work or are lazy and inconsistent. So... Rian fucked up magnificiently and JJ tried to mop it up in 2hours. And also he wanted to insert as much middlefingers to Rian as possible. The end result is terrible. Oh and do not forget Kathleen who should be overlooking and driving whole LucasFilms, but it seems her priorities are to get women into thinking groups and create agenda garbage AND failing to come up - or at least find someone competent who can come up - with a narrative for the whole trilogy.
