And in the end, killing Palpatine is what ended the Empire so even lacking some informations, Yoda was right. A quality that Legends would use to establish Luke's Jedi Order. But as far as the old Jedi were concerned...it was foolish to even try. Because the safety of many planets were on the line.

Alright, I'm gonna end this "Seeing Yoda flip around like that was embarrassing and it ruined his character. " complaint once and for all. 1) Yoda is a small creature, so he would HAVE to move around like a Mexican jumping bean if he wants to fight targets, all of which are at least 3 times his size. Do these OT fanboys think it's embarrassing to do something logical.? Ok. 2) it's actually quite deadly. In traditional sword play, you're going up against people roughly the same size as you. But since Yoda is so much smaller, he maneuvers much quicker, so he's harder to hit. And since he's so agile, he can land attacks with less effort, over a shorter distance, and slip through his opponent's defenses before they even knew what cut them. You'd have to be insanely skilled, lucky or spared by Yoda to make it out of that alive. This is why Anikan had so much more respect for Yoda after seeing his skills in action after that fight in the EU. (look it up) 3) I know people have said this a lot, but that's because it makes sense. A lightsaber is a Jedi's signature weapon. Why the hell would Yoda NOT use it? It would actually be stupid if he didn't use it. Maybe he's a super powerful force user who needs a lightsaber every now and then when his opponents are too strong, like against Palpatine. Who knows. It doesn't change the fact that you need to FORCE to move around like that at all, let alone react in real time lightsaber combat the way he did.

the only jedi i know who NEVER used a lightsaber was jedi master faye. according to obi-wan, faye was so connected to the force that he had never seen her use a lightsaber or known her to carry one. she was guided by the force and rewarded for it by being very long lived. she outright rejected being on the council and only served the will of the force. in fact, she was the one who inspired qui-gon's outlook as a jedi.

Wtf some people complain that jedi councile only sits and talks, and now i hear complains that they shouldn't fight, what do you want them to do people? And the whole argument that jedi knight should not use violence is bullshiet to me. Why would they need lightsaber, if they weren't meant to fight? And i never really understood this Joda argument, he was a fucking republic general, of course he is going to attend some battles at some point. Prequels deserve some love, and i got new respect for them after watching Clone Wars series. People can be like sheep sometimes, one "guru" says that they shouldn't like something and they won't.

I'd actually argue that the prequels gave nuance and character to Yoda where the orignals lacked. Yoda's character traits from the originals are pretty much just "wise" (nothing wrong with that because it's done excellently) but the prequels make him more flawed and interesting while adding mystique to his presence (why does he use a walking cane if he can jump around so quickly when he fights?).

I've always found the romance dialogue arguments in the prequels odd. Maybe I'm to much like Anakin being inept, but I think most people are cringey in regards to romance as teens and young adults, but we tend to that selectively forget that Aside from the myriad of reasons why in this narrative it makes perfect sense based on their characters Also there's attachment theory that explains this also, for both parties. There's so much to talk about here and how much it makes sense that if I did it would take hours But last thing I must say is this, prequels did romance better than the sequels.

@@cursedkitchen8752 so basically depending on family development during early years affect how people act. Charisma on Command has a video on this. But I'll focus on Episode 2 for my arguement Anakin grew up the anxiety do to his life as a slave. When the Jedi said he was scared to lose his mom, Lucas was setting up how that will make him act, that so why Jedi are trained young. His anxiety after leaving him in the Jedi's care made him attach to the only person he had a chance to see, Padme, her being his only crush as a kid. Anxious attachment types form awkward bonds and will go to great lengths to avoid those bonds from being destroyed. Like what Anakin did Padme is also an anxious attachment type, my guess is her life in politics caused this. Her acceptance of Anakin shows that, she tries to make him jealous and plays with him mentally throughout As a result neither could be apart. Which is why Padme dying because she was sad makes sense. In the real world it happens too. Why both of them didn't die at the end of Episode 3 works, Vader only lived because Palpatine invested so much time on Anakin he was going to move Heaven and Earth to save Anakin

20:21 The insistence that the OT characters appearing in the Prequels should have been the exact same characters, or near to, baffles me. Vader MUST be a badass, Obi-Wan MUST be the Master, Yoda MUST be the wise, zen teacher, except that for the story George was telling none of these choices would have made sense. The Obi-Wan we see in the OT is stern but forgiving when it comes to Luke's youthful energy despite counselling patience, while Yoda is strict about the age at which training should commence and how it must be completed, while displaying a vision of the force that is anything BUT utilitarian. The issue being if we placed these characters in these positions in George's story, it wouldn't make sense, because the Prequels recontextualize these traits as a result of CHARACTER GROWTH. Growth that we do not see necessarily, but which we can infer from watching the movies in chronological order (NOT release order), and which if anything gives us greater appreciation of these characters in their OT. We see in Phantom Menace how Yoda went against his better judgement in allowing Qui-Gon then Obi-Wan to train Anakin, and we see in AOTC and ROTS how Yoda is very much immersed in Jedi dogma and ultimately takes aggressive action against the Separatists/the Sith. These result in FAILURE and the loss of the Order AND the Republic, and when we next see Yoda his attitude towards the Force (judge me by my size, do not) and his misgivings towards training Luke are now not merely run-of-the-mill kung-fu master tropes, but a sign that Yoda HIMSELF has under gone growth as a character between the films. We also now have a sense of worry for Luke, as his advanced age, his impatience and his fear make him eerily similar to his father and make his possibility of a fall that much more real; the fact that "there is another" even tells us that Yoda and Obi-Wan are mindful of the possibility that Luke failing is a real possibility which they considered, and thus likely had plans for Leia in the event of Luke's death or fall (BOTH of which could easily have happened in ESB or ROTJ). Anakin and Obi-Wan are likewise seen to have grown or changed; Obi-Wan's tutelage under the ghost of Qui-Gon seems to have had it's affect, as he is willing to train Luke and to vouch for that training to continue under Yoda, despite having acknowledged to Anakin that he failed him in ROTS. The Ben Kenobi we see in ANH is no longer the 'young Obi-Wan' of TPM who still had much to learn about the 'Living Force,' warning Darth that in death he would become more powerful than Vader could possibly imagine. As for Anakin, Lucas spoke of how the character of Vader changes from a being of evil to a more pathetic character, who made a horrible choice and is in a living hell that his children must rescue him from (Rick Worley quotes this in his excellent prequels video). Vader is more sympathetic now and also more tragic, while his announcement to the Emperor in ESB that Luke is the son of Anakin Skywalker gains a whole new meaning given his reaction to Padme's death. Seeing how the belief that his wife a child were dead left him bereft of hope and pushed him fully to the dark side, the knowledge that the Emperor lied to him and that his son and subsequently his daughter are alive strengthens his conflict in ROTJ. Anakin is NOT a Kylo Ren character who had it all and was extremely powerful, but was seduced by the Darkside and committed horrific acts, as he's vastly more sympathetic and in turn makes Luke's decision to save his father that much more wonderful.

Here are some more double standards that I've heard from people who hate the amazing prequels but defend Disney's bullshit excuse for Star Wars: 1. the prequels ruined Yoda, Anakin, Palpatine, and Obi-Wan, but Luke was perfect in The Last Jedi. 2. cgi is bad in the prequels, but it's totally fine when Disney does it. 3. the sequels are good movies if you ignore the massive flaws, but the prequels have absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever. 4. the prequels are bad because they are complicated and Star Wars should be simple, but The Last Jedi is a flawless masterpiece because of its deep themes. 5. Star Wars is supposed to be about rebels vs Empire, so it's totally fine that the sequels undo all the achievements of the OT. 6. the quips and one-liners in the prequels ruin the scenes they are in, but the awful quips in the sequels are totally fine and make the movies better.

I've seen a lot of people claim that Yoda using a lightsaber and being involved in combat breaks his character. Why? At what point in the OT does Yoda imply he would never participate in combat himself? At best there was the 'Jedi don't use the Force for attack' line, which I believe really just means that a Jedi doesn't go around being an instigator, picking the fights. Everytime he fights in AOTC, he's defending someone's life. First the survivors in the Arena, then Obi-Wan and Anakin in the hanger. And don't get me started on people complaining about PT Yoda, yet are completely silent on Rian seemingly thinking that 'crazy trickster' Yoda was his actual personality and not an act he put on to test Luke in Empire.

Alright, the Yoda thing. So what's bad about him using a lightsaber? Let's take and dissect the ESB moment first. Lifting and moving Luke's X-Wing is clearly no small feat. It requires concentration - closing eyes, moving your hand. Clearly it's not something you can just do. The whole point of "size matters not" was not that "Yoda is so kickass he can move around spaceships with his mind", it was that the Force can help you overcome anything given sufficient time and training. The lightsaber is a signature weapon of a Jedi. It's never spelled out but it was implied one is required to be a Jedi in order to use it effectively. Naturally the grandmaster of the order would have some proficiency with it. Bear in mind: Yoda walks with a crutch, he's old as all hell, but now he suddenly does all the flips and jumps and all that. Why? Because he's using the Force to augment his agility and strength, allowing him to keep up with a very tall human and even outclass him. He's using the Force to compensate for his size and thus size matters not. What else is he to do? Good guys don't Force choke. Unless they are Luke who spent the entire movie being teased as a "will he or won't he" when it comes to switching to the Dark Side, but Yoda choking an old man to death wouldn't have the same ring to it as Luke choking some Gamorreans to make them go away. He used the Force to absorb Dooku's Force Lightning, so there's that. Just throwing stuff at him probably woudln't work. So it requires getting up close and personal. But that was all salad dressing, let's go to the main event and why Cosmonaut's arguments are absolutely back-asswards: the kill-happy attitude of the Jedi. The thing is... it was present as far back as the OT. It's not out of character for them to go straight for the jugular when it comes to chosen bad guys. Remember what they told Luke in Episode 6? - I can't murderize my dad. - Well, then fucked we all are. - Y'know Luke, he's more a machine now than man, all metall-y parts and shit. Totally won't count, bruv. They never EXPLICITLY told him to kill Vader because that's not what good guys do, but the writing was on the wall: that's what they wanted from him. Luke proves them wrong by exploiting the familial connection he shares with Vader to bring him back to the light. Luke proves them WRONG. They were WRONG. They were WRONG as far back as the OT because even there they refused to believe someone who turned to the Dark Side could be brought back. Luke, having grown in a family, knows how important family is and thus is able to do the one thing they couldn't and brings Vader back to light. Them considering the dark side users too far gone and irredeemable goes as far back as the OT and thus it's perfectly in-character for them to do so in the prequels. And the prequels do highlight that the Jedi have become mired in dogma, they are not self-aware and hypocritical. This, coupled with their poor judgement of character, is what leads to their downfall - and it kinda continues in the OT, even if they were taken down a peg. People don't realize how much the ESB reveal recontextualizes Obi-Wan and Yoda's entire relationship with Luke and thus their entire character and motivations. The prequels do take that into account. The prequels also add another parallel to Anakin and Luke, since BOTH of them have grown in families, unlike the other Jedi, and to both family was the most important thing ever. The love for family brought Vader to his downfall but also allowed Luke to redeem his father. It's the cornerstone of both of their characters. In fact, this is why The Last Jedi is such a fucking clown show. Luke has proven time and again that his family and friends matter more to him than anything else. A New Hope - despite wanting to leave Tatooine and clearly disliking working on the farm, he refuses to go adventuring with a space wizard knight because of his loyalty to his uncle and aunt. Only when they are gone he goes with Obi-Wan and wants to become a Jedi as a way of following in his missing father's footsteps. ESB - he leaves the Jedi training immediately and goes on to help his friends despite all of Yoda's warnings. ROTJ - he spends the entire movie trying to bring his father back to light and only loses his cool and attacks Vader when he threatens Leia, his newly-found sister. But even then he stops once Vader is beaten. The moment when he stops and throws away his lightsaber is the moment when he proves both the Jedi and Palpatine wrong, the moment that cements him as the true paragon and a true hero. And he succeeded in bringing Vader back which should only reinforce this mindset. Or, you know, this same person can try to kill his nephew and apprentice because he saw a bad dream or some shit.

9:31 You could also argue that Dooku possibly became more evil as time went on, the dark side making him more and more corrupted, due to his dialogue encouraging Anakin to turn to the dark side, and him tossing obi wan and crushing him without a second thought, so you could say palpatine or the dark side slowly made him more ruthless and evil as time went on, since the dark side has a tendency to do that, look at Anakin when he’s having delusions of grandeur with Padme.

Real talk. I always saw the Padme and Anakin relationship as an ideal interpretation of true romance. Two inexperienced youths who sincerely care for one another, unmarred by presumption or previous encounters. Just honest and awkward. And if we're being straight up, any real romance would look and feel cringy, just given what we think we know about relationships and how they're "supposed" to be.

@@goldfilms995 That's a bit of a hostile projection, but I understand why you asked the question. Perhaps I should clarify. I think Lucas was channelling something akin to Romeo and Juliette for Anakin and Padme. I think "true romance" as an ideal looks awkward, peculiar, and unrelatable. That's my point. I'm aware that real life relationships don't function like that, but I don't think that Lucas was going for realism. Also, I suspect that any real romantic interactions between two inexperienced youths would translate just as awkwardly to film. Perhaps it would be more true to life, but I think it would still look and feel silly, albeit for slightly different reasons.

Ironically, CVH is actually right when he says Yoda shouldn’t be giving orders to the Clones, but for the wrong reason. The Jedi are great warriors, excellent diplomats, and perfectly able peacekeepers, but they are not commanders. IIRC, this was pointed out as part of Sidious’ plan in the (excellent) novelization of Revenge of the Sith. He knew full well that the Jedi would bungle commanding the Clones, which is why he, as Palpatine, insisted the Clones be under Jedi command.

We're literally straight up told that building your own lightsaber is the last stage of training! It's in the OT! I have never understood the hate on dueling Yoda! It's just more of the dumb "we haven't seen it, so no" argument. The OT introduces new stuff in literally each movie. We don't call BS on stuff we haven't seen before, we say "oh shit, that too?" (Yes, that's right: the sequels should have been allowed to introduce new things too.) Yoda could still easily have mastered dueling simply because he was so strong with the Force, and so incredibly old that he had all the time to devote to it that he wanted. He could have been a pacifist his whole life, but still mastered dueling because it's literally part of his religion. The events of the prequels don't need to have happened to justify both Yoda's stance on war and his ability to fight in them.

Now i like Rolfe and Harper but theyve used the whole " The Prequels dont feel like Star Wars" argument before so they are part of the problem. The films were not what THEY wanted......they were what LUCAS wanted and thats the issue. Why should any artist ever create their own original art under these circumstances? Thats what i vehemently dislike about these people.......none of their arguments hold water because it all goes back to the fact that George Lucas did not make the movies they wanted......so they talked themselves into liking the ST because they "FEEL" like Star Wars films but in reality, they did more harm to the franchise than the PT ever tried to do.

They were known to all Clone-Troopers, and could only be used during Times of Crisis. Yes, the Clones were trained to kill the Jedi, should they betray the Republic, but they also had Orders to remove the Chancellor from Office, should it turn out he is no longer fit to rule. Regarding Yoda "telling" Obi-Wan to go and kill Anakin. There is a brilliant scene in ep.2, when Obi-wan comes to him to ask about Kamino, Yoda is training the younglings. That's the only time in the whole prequel trilogy where Yoda sounds cheerful and upbeat. He clearly enjoys himself, he is on the short leg with the kids, he redirects Obi-Wan's question to them and admires their mind. He is THE teacher. And now he stands in the ruins of the temple, among his dead students. That's as close as Yoda gets to snapping.
@tomnorton4277

That also has one of the best lines in the Trilogy. "Truly wonderful the mind of a child is." I expect Yoda had already figured out what was going on with Kamino but wanted to give the children a moment to shine. Unlike the other up-themselves Jedi Masters, he's not afraid of being childish so he could see things that the others would miss. Too bad The Clone Wars series completely destroyed Yoda by making it blatantly obvious that Order 66 was going to happen and then having him do nothing about. Fuck Dave Filoni for that.
