Part of the reason Elizabeth was one of the last stars of that caliber is because she was completely unyielding. These days, people let their publicists speak for them, they decide what questions go through. Elizabeth and Richard were never managed or controlled by anyone, they said what they felt and it's infinitely more compelling than a lot of things Hollywood can produce nowadays.

I think she was moneumentally disappointed with Rich, he was drinking to the point where people were 'clearing up after him'...she became disgusted, but still loved him, so hard, to love someone destorying themselves xx been thro it myself

Elizabeth is a fierce loyal advocate who defends the MAN she adores. Elizabeth was magnificent on stage in "The Little Foxes." Together Rich & Elizabeth did a benefit poetry rearing in NY that got rave reviews. They were a magical couple full of passion which is the gate to the soul. We loved them and their love might have been too much for them but they were truly magical to watch. Sleep warm in the arms of the angels LUVS. Oh how we kiss you. NOTHING TODAY CAN COMPARE TO THEIR FIRE! NOTHING!

I agree. They were magical to watch. They were so in love and full of passion. They never got over each other. Richard never loved any woman but Elizabeth, as he mentioned in one of his letters. He never believed in love before he met her..

@JM4EDR Well, it wasn't a *complete* insult but the interviewer did essentially say that Richard had sold out by claiming there wasn't tant amount of artistic success to the commercial success he was achieving on film. I mean, clearly that wasn't even the case as Burton would go on to get nominated for 7 Oscars. Elizabeth Taylor had, even recently, expressed fear Richard Burton the actor would go unnoticed, she was just protecting him.

What is this mean spirited thing... Burton made a choice and had an astounding career on stage and film.. That's it...

But the interviewers were not attacking Richard, they were just pointing out that HE WAS one of the greatest stage actors and didn't do much of it and did he regret it. Valid point as I thought his majestic acting was suited brilliantly to the stage. He was brilliant in both but to see him on stage would have been even better.
@bjones39944 жыл бұрын
She was sick of the interviewers asking that same thing over and over again. She knew Richard was sensitive about this subject. She was like a mama tiger. Look out, if you offend her husband, children, or her friends.

@RichardElden Well I dont really know about that...I just thought they both were good in the movie..all 4 actors were....I was fascinated cuz pple reckon the rows and drinking were Burton and Taylor practically being themselves.Burton looked old :) I dont see why a professor in USA cant be English anyway...I have many relatives in USA....some Brit born...most USA born.

@JERIPRIDE9, defending what?, they weren't attacking him in a negative way.

So much snobbery about acting...stage is better than screen ? Some of the best actors prob never did stage work. Also Richard was one of the best actors ever out of Britain....not England...like the interviewer said. It looked like Burton just couldnt be bothered in this interview.
@XxpauldadudexX13 жыл бұрын
@RichardElden Lol I dont care what u think..I aint exactly a fan...I was just correcting the inteviewer guy who said best actor outta England...its Britain. The highest form of flattery is imitation and anyway..my parents arent dumb and they reckon he was a great actor who did shitty movies. Watch ''Whos afraid of Virginia Wolf ''...when I saw that recently Burton was brilliant...even wooden Elizabeth Taylor was.
