It's my sadder duty to inform you that good music still exists, you just have to search harder for it. Because it costs so much now for marketing, record companies and radio execs are not willing to take a chance on many talented artists, instead opting for "safer" acts. Prettier people who may be less talented, but are more likely to turn a profit. Make no mistake, good music is still out there, but it will never get radio airplay. You've got to dig deep to find it now.

Xavier, 23 years after this 1964 song, the tall, thin baritone Righteous Brother, Bill Medley, had another No. 1 song in the U.S. called "(I've Had) The Time of My Life." It was from the 1987 movie soundtrack to "Dirty Dancing," and he sang it with Jennifer Warnes.

Thanks for that old comment. A bunch of us "Old-as-hellers" enjoy watching you youngsters enjoying the music we grew up with. You might even say....ageless music. We still sing hymns in Church written 1, 2, 3, 4 and 500 years ago that are as fresh as today. Music can be ageless. Btw the duo performed in a bar near a Marine base in CA. There were several black marines who would go just to hear them. They would say "you're righteous, brothers!" They took that as their moniker.

It makes me sad when I hear artists like Post Malone say "I can't sing, I just use autotune" when asked how they can sing so well. It takes effort to be great at something, granted, you probably will never reach the peak that is the Righteous Brothers but why can't artists sing? Why do they need digital pitch correction when it takes practice and patience to become a great singer? Just look at all the great artists out there in the past that worked at it and BECAME great singers. Even if their voice was strange or gravelly, it's still possible. Anyone can be a Tom Waits. You could even be as great as the Righteous Brothers, but it requires effort. I hope a new wave in music comes around where the artists don't rely on computers and, instead, use them as the musical instruments they're meant to be, not a "correction" for their lack of pitch.

It's great that after 55 years a song like this can get the attention and admiration of younger folks today.. Xavier, this my 2nd watch of you reacting and you seem well schooled in music and singing. So let me give you a brief history of the Righteous Brothers. To start off these 2 gentlemen are not brothers. Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley were in different groups before they met - Hatfield was in a group from Anaheim called the Variations, and Medley in a group from Santa Ana called the Paramours. Barry Rillera, a member of Medley's band who was also in Hatfield's group, suggested that they go see each other's show and perform together. Later, after a member of Paramours left in 1962, Hatfield and Medley joined forces and formed a new Paramours, which included Johnny Wimber (a founder of the Vineyard Movement) They started performing at a club called John's Black Derby in Santa Ana, and were signed to a small record label Moonglow in 1962. They released a single "There She Goes (She's Walking Away)" in December 1962. However, the Paramours did not have much success and soon broke up, leaving Hatfield and Medley to perform as a duo in 1963. According to Medley, they then adopted the name "The Righteous Brothers" for the duo because black Marines from the El Toro Marine base started calling them "righteous brothers". At the end of a performance, a black U.S. Marine in the audience would shout, "That was righteous, brothers!", and would greet them with "Hey righteous brothers, how you doin'?" on meeting them. The Righteous Brothers released three albums under the Moonglow label, one of these and a further compilation album were released after they had joined Phil Spector. They released 12 singles with Moonglow, but only two were moderate hits - "Little Latin Lupe Lu" and "My Babe" from their first album Right Now!. In August and September 1964, they opened for The Beatles in their first U.S. tour. However, they left before the tour finished as they were asked to appear on a new television show called Shindig!] they also felt unappreciated by the audience as they were then little known on the East Coast, and the audience demanded to hear the Beatles while they were performing. They returned to Los Angeles to tape the pilot for the show, and would later appear in the show regularly. Their next album was Some Blue-Eyed Soul; the term blue-eyed soul was first used to refer to The Righteous Brothers by black DJs, but after they became popular, the term became a general term for all white singers who sang what was then considered "black music". In October and November 1964, they opened for The Rolling Stones on their American tour. In 1964, music producer Phil Spector came across the Righteous Brothers when they performed in a show at the Cow Palace in Daly City, where one of Spector's acts, The Ronettes, was also appearing and he conducted the band for the show. Spector was impressed enough to arrange a deal with Moonglow in early October 1964 allowing him to record and release songs by the Righteous Brothers in the US, Canada and UK under his own label, Philles Records. Prior to this, all the songs Spector produced for Philles Records featured black singers; the Righteous Brothers would be his first white vocal group for the label, but they had a black vocal style, referred to as "blue-eyed soul", that suited Spector. Spector commissioned Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil to write a song for them, which turned out to be "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'". The song, released in late 1964, became their first major hit single and reached No. 1 in February 1965. Produced by Phil Spector, the record is often cited as one of the finest expressions of Spector's Wall of Sound production techniques. It is one of the most successful pop singles of its time, despite exceeding the then-standard length for radio play. Indeed, according to BMI, "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" became the most-played song on American radio and television of the 20th century, with more than eight million airplays by the end of 1999. The Righteous Brothers had several other hit singles with Philles Records in 1965, including "Just Once in My Life" and "Unchained Melody" (originally the B-side of "Hung on You"), both reaching the Billboard Top 10. "Unchained Melody" was produced by Medley; according to Medley, it was originally intended only as an album track, and Spector had asked him to produce the albums so Spector could spend time and money on producing singles. Later copies of the original 45 release credited Spector as producer when it became a hit I will leave it there for the Righteous Brothers history. But I will give you one little known fact and/or quirk about the song 'Unchained Melody'. When both Bobby and Bill first got the song they both emphatically wanted to be the one to sing it and the rivalry got pretty intense. So, and I am not sure who, got them to decide by a coin flip. The flip was made and Bobby one the flip and Sang the song, the rest as they say is history. Have fun doing your reactions. If you need any suggestions, I have 110,208 mp3's covering over 8,000 artists and 23,707 music videos covering 1,888 artists. Covering Rock & Roll and Blues from the 1930's up to today's music. I have more blues than any other genre. Later. Peace out---Kim Hellums

After all these years, I still get chills when I hear this song ❤️ 💚 💙 💜 Few Fun Facts: They got their name from some black marines who saw them perform as the “Paramours” in 1963 & they shouted, “that was righteous brothers!” Also, the infamous Cher was part of the backing vocals, before she became famous, & last but not least, their manager booked them into a black nightclub in Watts, California before they got big, & the patrons of the club started throwing things at them on stage when they saw they were white, & The Righteous Brothers didn't know what to do, so they just started singing, & all the patrons sat down with their mouths open, & wouldn't let them leave after that, & the term, Blue Eyed Soul, was born 😃 👓 👓 😃

They definitely are NOT brothers ! Bill Medley (the tall one with the deep baritone) and Bobby Hatfield (the shorter one with the amazing falsetto)were called The Righteous Brothers,by a group of black US Marines who saw them performing in a bar.

They're not biological brothers. If I recall the story correctly of how they "earned" their stage name is they went to perform in an all black club. They were met with White Men Can't Sing skepticism. They won the approval of the crowd saying that the brothers sound was righteous

@Alfred Hernandez Actually they were booked for The Apollo but NY mayor Lindsey asked them not to because he feared riots. They agreed. Too bad. Too bad. Would have been interesting to see if they would have won over that audience as they did at a black club where audience threw bottles and jeers when they came on. Once audience actually listened they cooled off and enjoyed the performance.

when music was music not garbage. Music used to lift you up now all it does is tear you down. Today's music will never stand the test of time. When a song is played and heard 30 or 40 years later that's good music.

Can’t get enough Righteous Brothers. Try Bill Medley duo with Jennifer Warnes doing the Time Of My Life. Haven’t heard any other people react to it. Be the first. I know you appreciate good music. Thx

When you reacted to "Unchained Melody". That was Bobby Hatfield on his own. After Bill Medley's death. Bill Medley was the baritone.

Bill Medley is 81 and still performing. They sang together until 2003, when Bobby died.

Hi , I wanted to have you check one more song it's bill medley and Jennifer warnes singing the time of my life. Bill medley is the baritone half of the righteous brothers and Bobby Hatfield is the other half that you heard sing unchained Melody. They were one of my all time favorite show of the sixties to eighties.

If you like harmony as much as you appear to, there is a brother/sister duo called the Carpenters. They made a sound together that is virtually unmatched even today. Please hear the studio version of Close To You, a former #1 hit from 1970. Also unmatched for their harmonies were the Beatles. Please hear the song called If I Fell. The Beatles were the kings of love songs and had 20 #1 hits in the span of only seven years. Not to hear these two fantastic musical acts would be to cheat yourself, badly!

Xavier, I was listening to these guys when I was your age, and I am old enough to be your grandpa, LOL. It does my heat good to see you enjoying this timeless music. You'd be a good grandson. And BTW, you know a lot more about the technical aspects of the vocals than I ever did or will. Have you tried any Patsy Cline? Another really beautiful voice.
