Nabisco introduced Ritz Crackers in 1934 and they were an instant success. During the great depression, the crackers were marketed as an affordable luxury. Over the years, Ritz crackers found their way into casseroles, candy and and even as a substitute for apples in apple pie! This recipe bakes those buttery, rich wafers into a meringue for a unique and memorable dessert.

My mom used to make this in the 70s she used To put canned fruit in with the topping mix

Same thing as my great grandmother used to make for us. Except she used walnuts and cherries on top. Just made it today and trying to find other recipes with this crust.

We love ritz pie! However my grandmother's recipe differs, as it calls for 1 c. Sugar, 1/2 c. Chopped nuts (we like walnuts) and 1 tsp. Baking powder. Also, we never refrigerate it, it's delicious still warm or room temperature. I would think refrigerating it would make it gummy and destroy the texture. If you ever try it again, try it this way :)
