Nurse Espinosa is a classic example of what we call a Second Victim in the medical community. She is so obviously traumatized by what she saw when examining little Laila's abused body... she did her best to convey the depravity of the damage done to that poor baby while choking back tears at times. Anyone who cares about children that worked this case will never be the same. I pray justice prevails.
@QemeH3 жыл бұрын
She also exhibits clear symptoms of psychological stress when talking about having to go back to the day-to-day duty of the charge nurse and run a full emergency department after just experiencing this. I hope she had the support she needs in the weeks and months after, so she will be able to let this make her stronger and more resilient and not break her. But let me also take this opportunity to say to any colleague: If you are in that position, it is your absolute right to hand over your duties and go home. Protecting your psyche is as much part of self-care as PSA or quarantine efforts. You don't have to keep working if you feel like you mentally can't. Protect your patients, but also protect yourself! [Edit: Sorry, I was talking about Nurse Sarah, I got them mixed up.]

And so many more just like baby Laila. I so wish that a complete change would happen with Child Protective Services . We need to start demanding it. The Takoda Collins case affected me so much I started researching and it happens more often than people think that CPS has been alerted several times before the child is ultimately murdered.

It REALLY breaks my heart the pain this precious child suffered through! I was a nurse for 35 years and I know how much pain fractured bones can cause. I can’t imagine. Even animals are more kind than these vile humans. Animal predators rip other animals apart for the instinctual purpose of survival. This human seemingly did it for pleasure and revenge then blamed everyone else, even the poor children.

My husband once choked while we were eating ribs in a restaurant. The weird thing was he didn’t make any choking sounds or even struggle. He just suddenly looked at me, eyes bugging out & his face fell forward into his plate full of barbecue. He was completely unconscious in seconds. A huge lumberjack sized man grabbed my husband around his body & began violently doing the Heimlich maneuver. I was certain he was going to crush him. it wasn’t 1-2 times-it seemed to go on forever, all the while my husbands eyes were rolled back in his head & he had turned grey. The piece of rib must have eventually gone down bc he regained consciousness & was ok. But despite the force used, he had only a small bruise near the diaphragm the next day. (None that night) This woman’s story doesn’t pass muster.

@@maryb6672 OMG I cant imagine the fear you experienced in that moment! Ive always heard that when someone is truly choking and in need of heimlich that they wont make any sounds bc they arent able to pass any air thru, therefore unable to make sounds. Thank God for that big guy so willing to help! When I was about 4 I choked on a large piece of hard candy. I remember it vividly bc i thought I was going to die. My Grandaddy jerked me up and did the heimlich on me. and let me say he was a BIG man, about 6'4" and idk how much he weighed, he was strong. he had no clue what he was doing, not trained in CPR or heimlich. he just started thrusting his fist into my abdomen in the center below ribs. It hurt horribly but I coughed up the candy, puked, and cried. I had no injuries from this. let me add, he also beat me on the back to begin with. No bruises, no injuries.

The ER nurse, Julie Espinosa, says @1:12:20 that this was the 2nd worst case of injuries she had seen in her 23 years and got choked up. She is obviously emotional about what she saw. Corrine Mull's office is aimed at "Sex Crimes and Other Serious Felonies" and on her acquittal page: out of 46 acquittals -- 6 are for child molestation charges (many multiple counts), 9 for rape, 9 for murder, and many other aggravated assaults, cruelty to children, etc. On her main page she lists the types of cases she specializes in: "Child Molestation, Aggravated Molestation, Rape, Other Sexual Offenses, Homicide, and Vehicular Homicide." I can't understand making a career out of defending these kinds of crimes, how do you sleep at night? I think it's beyond evident that Laila experienced HORRIFYING abuse at the hands of the Rosenbaum's and I can't even begin to imagine how they inflicted that much damage on that baby. The prosecutor is amazing, strong, articulate, passionate, and brilliant -- a good match, I think, for someone as rude, abrasive, aggressive and nasty as Corrine Mull... I just really, really hope that justice prevails in this case and that the jurors are paying attention and see it all for what it is. Also wondering what kind of case defense will present and how long this will all take.

I worked in an ER in the inner city. Sadly we got a lot of babies co-sleeping, PNB so the paramedics basically just come to have the MD call time of death sadly. We do have children’s hospital little further away, so sadly the ones they know they can’t save come our way. It most definitely breaks up the entire ED. Doctors, nurses, respiratory and even security guards are crying. Not a dry eye in the place. It def affects everyone, whether they were in direct care or not. Saddest one was when a mother was screaming “I’m sorry I’m sorry, please wake up” over and over again, and then tried to leave the hospital with the child. Absolutely heartbreaking. I understand the mother’s logic, I lost my son during delivery-41.5 weeks along, 10lb baby and I would have went home with him if I could keep him as he was. Sounds crazy or odd, but you don’t know until you’re faced with situation. 😢👼🏼

What I hate throughout this entire trial is this notion of the defense that "there is no telling what _wrong_ CPR could've done" and how all the witnesses have to agree that this is _technically_ true - but it has a really nasty implication. I wish, the prosecutors would've been able to make a comparison - it's the old saying of "every machine is a smoke machine if you just operate it wrong enough", but it is not *reasonable* that in trying to, say, fix a broken TV to throw a hammer and then a bucket of water at it. But that is kinda what they are arguing: Defense says that wrong CPR gave the child bruises *all over her body* as well as *fractures* - I'm a paramedic and first aid class instructor and even after observing hundreds of nervous first aid newbies administering all manners of hilarious CPR attempts on our mannequin, I can still not even imagine a way to give CPR for that to occur. There is an important difference between "technically possible" and "even remotely likely".

it really bothers me that they felt a pulse when she first came in to ER but they only worked 4 minutes on her in the ER. Ive heard stories of children and babies coming in to ER and drs/nurses working harder and longer than normal, fighting even longer, not giving up, and then miraculously they come back. 4 min seems very short in an ER. I can't imagine the inner turmoil when deciding its time to stop working on a child
@maryb66725 жыл бұрын
Jennifer S. I was taken back at hearing that also & went back & listened to it again. She only felt a pulse bc other medical professionals were preforming CPR on her at the time, which mimics the feel of a pulse. When they tried stopping CPR, there was no pulse. They said it had been over 30 mins since CPR had begun so I guess it was quite a while. Truly heartbreaking

@@maryb6672 yes, that was stated. Idk, It would be so hard to make the decision to stop. always hoping for a miracle. thats why Im not a Dr and they are!

@@jennifers.3818 after 30 minutes there was nothing to bring back.if they had a true pulse and not a pulse generated by epinephrine and compressions her brain was dead and if by a miracle she would have been in s permanent vegetative state.Too sad but true.That monster beat the life out of that baby.

The doctor clearly stated she had been without pulse, without breathing for more than 30 minutes
@tinawolf55602 жыл бұрын
It wasn't a real pulse. Listen to prior testimony. It's only because they are pumping her blood through. It's not her actual heart doing it.

@NativeNYerChicHK4 жыл бұрын
You normally wouldn’t perform CPR on a person who is currently kicking like crazy. She’s missing an important part of the story where the child went from consciousness to unconsciousness. Jennifer does claim the kicking caused her to drop Laila and then jumps right to she began performing CPR. But she never mentions when did the child go limp? Anyone in that position wouldn’t forget that very important change in the child they’re supposedly giving life saving measures to.

Who cares she is obviously very INTELLIGENT and i can tell she is a nurse for all the right reasons and does a great job training others , i am also a nurse and thank ALL healthcare workers!!! TO HAVE A BRUISE OR BRUISES IN VARIED STAGES YOU NEED CIRCULATION!! NO CIRCULATION IN TISSUE NO HEALING!! AND SHE DID A BEAUTIFUL JOB EXPLAINING THAT!!!

@jennifers.38185 жыл бұрын
she is irritating as hell! but I will say the reason shes asking this is because at some point Tessa, the mother, made an accusation that Layla had looked like she lost weight, didnt look healthy, and tht Jennifer wasnt feeding her. of course there were no other charges of this, so why she keeps focusing on this is ridiculous. its the ONLY thing they have that they can say didnt happen bc she was a healthy weight. SO WHAT!! That baby was beat to death!! who cares if she was a normal weight!

The defence keeps asking if they noted in their report. When you do a report you don’t note every single move a person made every expression they make, your report is just a summary in all of the incident, when you talk about it you could give further information hence a court case is required due to reports not being full. I don’t see any relevance to the defences questions
@tinawolf55602 жыл бұрын
Also, to be Foster parents they are required to be current in CPR/AED adult, children, infant same with first Aid.

Prosecutor is getting irritated with the defense constantly objecting to statements that would reveal her clients dirty deeds. Being as specific as "she's not an expert!".... Give me a break! Nearly 30 years experience in medicine, to me, is an expert. Reading x-rays for nearly 30 years, should make one an expert. I'm a 3rd generation glazer, but I've not received any college education or certification. I'm an expert. Experience (practice) is what it takes to become a master of your craft; expert!!

Can someone tell me the Rosenbaum’s or the treating doctors explanation of Laila’s improperly healing broken arm? Also their explanation of the bruising especially on her wrists?
@maryb66725 жыл бұрын
MandaFandaa The arm was due to not seeking medical treatment to have the fracture set/sprinted. Both doctors said the fracture in the arm was 1-3 weeks old. They didn’t speculate what had caused the fracture. The bruises around her wrist were consistent w/an adults hand wrapped around them, pulling/dragging/yanking the child

"Objection! Hearsay" means "The witness doesn't say what i want to hear"...
@judepower44253 жыл бұрын
Well, no, that's not what it means at all. I'm not denying that defence counsel interrupted far too often, but what it really means is that a witness can't give evidence about what someone else said or did, unless that someone else is or will be a witness in court who can be cross-examined. Think about it, otherwise anyone could get up in court and say you or I or anyone said or did something and unless we were witnesses we couldn't even be questioned about it.

This poor baby. What could a 2 year old possibly due to deserve this amount of violence?? This defense attorney needs to retire. Clearly, Jennifer, who went to law school and because of that she is “kind of” a lawyer, is leading this defense. “But I bought her stuff so I couldn’t possibly be an abuser.” Any attorney that goes along with the defense that is being used doesn’t need to actively be practicing law anymore.

Damn, call the organ company re: every death 🤔
@laureenlightowlers30994 жыл бұрын
Rainey J that’s the protocol for every hospital death. The organization that is responsible for organ donations (here in Canada its Trillium gift of life) is contacted, and then someone will speak to the next of kin about their wishes, and if they would like to donate any of the persons organs. The hospital medical staff don’t typically do this, as the organ staff are trained in specific ways of how to handle these difficult conversations in a time of grief. There is usually a protocol of age and injury; but for the most part, as long as they are under age 90 I believe, and have had a witnessed death (not to be crude, but are still “warm”, meaning organs would still be viable) the organization is called. I work in corrections now, but when I worked in hospital, we had to call them for every death.

Just occurred to me how the defence speaks reminds me of the character Satan in the Fall story of Christianity. The story goes that Satan asks the woman, "Is it really so...?" , when enquiring as to Yahweh's rule about the forbidden fruit. This old harpy opens with "Isn't it true..." , when trying to insert doubt.

Soooo....what gives?! The towel, the shirt...where is it? 😱. It needs to be found! If we only had the shirt...Isn’t it true, the creepy, abusive, diddling uncle...that lives under the stairs?... I think you know where that leads. I know I’m preparing myself just in case. Truly no disrespect implied whatsoever! It’s been difficult listening to the defense. Just thinking these tactics are just rude, nasty and uncomfortable. I keep waiting for a change...don’t advise holding the proverbial breath 😉

so far I'm in at 52.12 and to see these professionals get emotional every time they look at the monitor, and see Leila black and blue tiny body, their nose gets red, I cant imagine what the jurors have to see. If you don't know how old the girls are by seeing this trial, you would think, because Leila and Millie, were liars and fighting and pulling hair and falling into holes and high beams, and not allow to fall asleep in the car, that there talking about a couple of teenage sisters, no way in hell, especially Leila, she was a baby, she is just learning how to walk and talk!! This Monster, who I think she even abuses her husband, deserve the death penalty.
