@@Kitti3529 No. First, it is almost impossible to get a conviction over turned. Better to be found innocent first try. Second, that wouldnt even come close to meeting the criteria for incompetence. You have to show that your lawyer was falling down drunk or severely mentally ill or, and this what incompetent really means, lied about being a educated and licenced legal representative. If your lawyer lied about being certified or licenced to practice you can then claim incompetence.

@Ingrid Colello Exactly. This child has too many tell tale signs of PTSD to be lying about her sister's death or their abuse. Then them going to trial, and saying oh, well Millie's a liar so just discredit her because EVERYONE'S pancreas just splits in two from compressions to the CHEST. Bull. That happened over an extenuating period of time, and I bet that was the last kick or knee or blow that babies body could take, and she finally succumbed to her injuries. That little girl isn't a liar, they are just monsters, and are still trying to keep up with this fantasy world that Jennifer had created for herself, and the image that this woman claimed was so typical of children in foster care. Only it takes a sociopathic or psychotic personality to harm or destroy something/someone smaller, and defenseless. I'd imagine Jennifer was a bully as a child, and teenager too. I have a two yr daughter, and my little boy will be 9 on Saturday. They are allowed to be children, and I teach them right from wrong without violence. And I've been kicked in the face, slapped, you know the typical things kids try to get away with. I've just said oh, no. You do nice, mama, and show them how. Kids dont come with manuals, no but I learned on my OWN. She had resources, and there's no excuse.

My father was arrested when I was 8 months old. The police entered like SWAT and when my parents wouldn’t answer the door they literally beat our door down. I remember the sounds. I remember my dad holding me and saying “it’s okay baby. Let’s be quiet” and I screamed my head off. I remember that part very vividly! I do not remember his actual arrest though it’s like I blocked that part. The next thing I remember is my mom sitting in the kitchen floor and all the cabinets were emptied on the floor, Rice, Noodles, Flour, Sugar etc all over the floor! My mom kept our home spotless and they had destroyed it. Some family members have said I was to young to remember but I def remember. No one even talked about it and my dad was gone pretty much from the time I was 8 months until I was 13 years old. I know what I remember. Millie can def remember things! No doubt in my mind she is telling the truth. The “Rothroaches” or whatever their names are make me sick and they probably put fear in Millie so she wouldn’t talk so she is scared!

There are multiple ways to form long term memory. The main way is through the hippocampus, which doesn't fully form until around 4-5 years old (the last part of the brain to develop and the first to deteriorate). The hippocampus mainly helps to store episodic memory (events or "episodes" in your life, like recalling your first day of high school or that night out with your friends) and learning facts (studying for school). It's not stored *in* the hippocampus, rather the hippocampus takes information from short term memory, breaks it up, and puts it into different parts of the brain (which is why older people can still remember their youth in detail, but may not remember thing that happened yesterday). The amygdala, on the other hand, can store emotional memory, pretty much from birth. So, very emotional or traumatic events *can* be remembered early on as choppy memories that are difficult to get rid of or control (think PTSD). So, if you found that event especially disruptive, emotional, or scary, you certainly *could* have remembered it. There's other types of memory, such as procedural memory (like driving a car and riding a bike) that happens in other parts of the brain, but it's not really important to your experience or this case. Something that *is* important to note in millie's case: many things can effect memory. Memories can be altered every time they are recalled, and the altered memory is very real to that person. So, jennifer could have altered millie's memories with repetition. Additionally, during trauma or episodes of stress or fear, the body releases cortisol. Evolutionarily, cortisol is a hormone meant for short term stress (run! We're being chased by a bear!) which helps blood to be redirected away from things like the digestive system and towards the muscles. It was not meant for long term stress, such as that occurs in child abuse. Cortisol is damaging to brain tissue over long periods. So, it could have prevented millie from storing information about her and her sister's abuse, and made her recall poor. She's not lying, she's telling the truth to the best of her ability. Her inability to recall correctly is almost a sign of long term stress and abuse. Her physical condition is confirmation.

Millie was a witness for the prosecution and her evidence was a part of the larger body of evidence which exposed/corroborated the ongoing abuse. The evidence against the defendants was overwhelming and so the defence strategy, as ineffective as it was, relies almost solely upon creating an element of doubt in the jury's mind by targetting a witness' credibility. That is their one tactic repeated over and over, but it was always incredibly weak. They will target any minutiae here trying to make this witness say "Millie lied about thing x" no matter what x was, to try to undermine her credibility. However, the prosecution is there to counterbalance this and everyone, including the jury thankfully, saw there was no substance to any of the defence's tactics. Truly a heartbreaking case.

The saddest part of this saga has yet to happen. If Millie is not provided the continued treatment and nurturing she needs as she ages, by her teens or in her twenties, her trauma will manifest itself in outrageous behaviors, or self-sabotage. By then very few people will care about why she does those things. They will discard her and discount her experiences. No more love and well wishes from strangers on the internet.

yep. bad coping skills will foster thru self medicating to addiction or abusive relationships. all the thoughts and prayers will go out the window and it will be "i dont feel bad for addicts they made the choice" or "why didnt she just leave him when he beat her the first time?"

This. Once you hit you're late teens you already start losing the concern and care of others. As an adult, literally no one will care anymore and if you don't have the skills, money, or mental capacity to get help for your trauma you will most likely cope in very negative ways and suffer even more. It really is so important to get kids help as soon as possible.

These poor babies would get in trouble for falling asleep in the car. That is just agonizing to hear. I can't imagine the anxiety of a 2 year old that is worrying they might fall asleep on a car ride and wake up getting physically or mentally abused for it. That statement killed me. The car ride is relaxing for many children. My babies fall asleep easiest in the car.

Falling asleep on a journey is normal!! The rhythmic motion lulls us and makes us sleepy. As a passenger in a car I can hardly keep my eyes open! Those poor little girls!! What a horrible pressure to put on children. That monstrous couple really were hell bent on turning, probably the most comforting thing (falling asleep in the car) the girls felt, into one of fear and terror. My God. Shame on them!!!!!

The defense attorney's voice and demeanor most likely turned the jury off. She is too aggressive and reaches or tries to throw blame where it shouldn't be. Yes, this is her job to do so but the way she defended her clients is horrible. If I were a juror I would have been disgusted by her and because of that some jurors might give a guilty verdict just because of the lawyer. Yes I know these 2 despicable people are guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. They tried to cover up the abuse and it didn't work. R.I.P. baby girl, you're with the Angel's now. Look out for your big and little sisters. So heartbreaking.

I feel for Millie. They are negating her way of processing the horrific abuse of her and her sister. I am 53 and still can't process the trauma of my life. As soon as I start to bring up something I get anxious and tearful and I just can't do it. It's been an ongoing abuse and trauma situations with different people my whole life. I can't imagine how this poor child is trying to cope at such a young age and not too terribly long after her trauma. Who is it for them to say she is not being truthful. Why do adults get to judge what they think she is embellishing. They need to validate what she tells them so she feels believed, safe and loved so she will talk about it more and heal.

so the "new mother" some how knows that Millie's PAST MEMORIES are not true. ummmmmm... Was she there? look it doesn't matter how many times my two year old hurts herself in the course of learning how to navigate thru her precious day. I still know how every bruise came to be. If she hits her head on the table , the bump is on her forehead. what I am trying to say is, falling down or bumping the head , or even getting knocked down by a family pet IT DOESNT make a baby have broken legs ,arms, and internal organs split in two. Or bruises all up and down her back! if Jennifer ever had a child in her care that she cared about she would know you just can't make up "stories " about how all these bruises and breaks happened. BECAUSE THOSE KIND DO NOT HAPPEN when a baby hurts THEMSELVES ! another thing... bruising can come up very quickly but most of the time it comes up later after the ouchy happened. there is no way that she got bruised all up and down her back when she was "chocking" THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED Jennifer had been beating that baby for some time. with each beating she gave she got worse. Jennifer broke her little arm as she dragged her up and down those stairs by it. She broke her leg in the same manner. She beat that baby by punching her little body. bursting her internal organs. Laila was dying slowly. and her death had nothing to do with chocking. when she died it just happened to be around dinner time. The fireman had it right when he thought to himself after seeing this babies back. Poor little girl..at least now she is out of her horrible situation He knew right when he saw her body that she was an abused child. I mean BABY
