Here is a look at another caliber offered in the Ruger American Ranch line of compact bolt action rifles. Although a little surprised by the recoil impulse compared to the size of the cartridge this little compact rifle shows some promise!

@@Resident-cb3yzgenerally I agree with you. But 300 blk is such a varied caliber due to the wide range of bullet designs, monolithic for both subs and supers. “Plinking” ammo from 125gr to 168ish grain. And subsonic ammo from 188 to 220 gr. And you add on top of that all the barrel lengths and twist rates, you’ll come to find 300blk is one of the hardest calibers to zero in on for one individual rifle.

soon to be lining out my older rotary mag ranch 300bo for upcoming single shot rifle season here in the peoples republic of illinois. son will be hunting with it and the old man (72) me will be on a new cva scout 350. finished off a bow shot hog with the old ranch several years ago when ruger brought them out....125 gr tnt with 1680, h119, etc. wthe about 1 1/2 inch groups at 100 yds and burris 2-7x. have now shot up most of those reloads over the intervening years, so will revisit all that this summer when the wind quits blowing every day around here! thanks for the video to get me revved up a little to prep some 300 brass while wind blows 10-20 mph, or higher, day after day after day!

Awesome rifle. I have the first gen Ranch model and can get good groups at 100 yards with cheap Winchester stuff, Hornady Black Vmax, Barnes 110grain and Sig Sauer brand. It's a good rifle for the budget, do your part and it will shoot just fine.

Great video shared to FB, I really like those Ruger ranch rifles I have the 223 and 7.62x39 models I shoot steel case ammo through both which surprisingly shoots pretty darn good. I have a Savage 300 BO bolt rifle and which I have shot some Wolf steel case ammo with. Always a pleasure watching your videos.

I have one that uses the older style Ruger magazines. I bought a few Aussie made 10 shot aftermarket mags because the old plastic mags broke. Mine seems to like Hornady 110 grain Vmax handloads and 190 grain SubX handloads. So my options can be either hyper speed or quiet and heavy.

I sight in with WOLF poly 145gr in my300blk 10.5" pistol & 16" carbine at 50 yds. Pistol generally shoots 3/8" & with carbine same hole . Pistol upper by Radical arms 4 yrs in service, carbine upper is BCA nitrited heavy barrel spiral fluted 6mos in service. I generally use the hood of my Commander as a rest when sighting. I have to say that in 200 rounds I have never had a malfunction with WOLF in either firearm.

I got a 300BLK upper for my AR just to see what it was all about. 30/30ish ballistics for standard loads. When it becomes really fun is with subsonic loads and a suppressor. Then it’s Hollywood quiet. You basically just hear the action cycle and the steel ringing.

I have watched this a couple of times. I just bought one a few weeks ago. It is super ammo sensitive. I broke it in on Ammo Inc. 150 grain and it took me about 2 boxes to get it consistent. After it got really consistent I changed to the PPU and there was 7 inches difference. I checked my zero with the original ammo and it was still dead center. I changed to the Hornaday 110 grain which is what I intend to hunt with and it wasn’t even close. 8 inch left and 2 inches high. I moved it back to center 8 clicks at a time. 5 shots later it was back on zero. I love mine but they are so ammo sensitive. My guide has one and before I got mine he told me they were. It wasn’t your shooting. I’m sure it was brand new and not broken in. Mine shoots fantastic but ammo changes causes head scratching. Good video.

I have several firearms and I don’t need to read a manual to sight in a rifle. Oh and I have never used anything but factory ammunition. I don’t trust reloaded ammunition. Never have, never will.

I was discussing how certain guns always seemed to have 1 flyer in a 5 shot group with a gunsmith friend of mine. He asked me if I noticed if it was the same shot each time...as in the 1st, 3rd, last etc...and I said I wasn't sure. He mentioned that some times the last round in a mag may feed different which could, strong emphasis on could, cause the flyer. Just food for thought.

I noticed in your comment that the recoil impulse surprised you. I'm supposing that you felt it to be less than expected? I like the idea of .300 blk but have never experienced it. For me (age 73) less recoil is a good thing. Just curious. And I like the Ruger American. I had one in .450 Bushmaster, but that was way too much even though I thought the rifle was terrific.

I had issues with cycling the bolt on mine and jamming yes. It was flat out miserable. The fix was to throw aways the POS 5.56 PMAG that comes with it and buy a Lancer 300 blk mag. Action is like butter now. The gun is a dream now. Why they include a 5.56 mag for a 300 blk is beyond me.
