I've shown this knife on a couple occasions but never really reviewed it seems. This is the 100th Anniversary Boy Scouts of America 97 BRBSA Buzz Saw Trapper by Schrade made in 2010.
While his particular version of the Schrade Buzz Trapper is no longer around, the Sawcut Delrin handle is readily available. (and yes, this one of the few Trappers I own and like.)

Funny, as soon as I saw those covers, I thought Bengal Tiger! The lock on the saw and metal pick are great ideas- much more useful than a plastic toothpick. Thanks for sharing it.

Thanks JB. I do wish that Schrade would release the 97OT again with bone handles.

Nice knife. I was a little put off by the orange scales at first. But later I realized that they make sense for s camping knife. If you lost it in the summer brush the orange scales would make it easier to find than one with brown, green or black scales.

Ive got the big brother to that knife. Folding hunter with saw blade instead of a skinner. Great for rough carving.

There is one of these at my local antique store . No tin but the same knife . I've been hesitant about picking it up because of the covers .

Thanks for the look at this. Wish I'd grabbed one of these when they came out. OTOH, I was dead broke then, so it goes.

I have the hair ball brown knife in my collection, l have a few trappers and the buzz saw was a welcome addition. The lockup is great, but the snap on my main blade is a little weak.

I do like that buzz saw blade. Not crazy about the scales, the orange is so opaque... I could live with it, though. Nice knife! LOL cat hairball brown.

Very nice. No such thing as a bad Schrade.. I'm thinking, which can be a rare event, that my 212B teeny barlow is my oldest or is it the geuine pearl small 2 blade watchpocket knife. Such a dilemma. They look older than the T82164 that Momma gave me. I'm showing off because tomorrow is my birthday, which means I have made it one more year than many people thought I would. Stay healthy my friend.!!

I really like the bone color, how unique. I believe the BSA had a program called Tiger Scouts that were pre-Cub Scout age, sort of candidate cubs. Maybe it was a nod to them. The knife though would not have been appropriate for that age. More of an appeal to an adult.
@KnifeChatswithTobias

Every Cub starts out as a Tiger as a Bobcat. depending on your age or school year you begin working on of the appropriate badges 1st grade: Tiger Cub 2nd Grade: Wolf 3rd Grade Bear 4th: Webelos After achieving Webelos the Cub Scout go for the Arrow of Light and then moves to the BSA. If you start in the 2nd grade you begin as a Bob Cat and work on the Wolf Badge, No Stinking Tiger Cub badge for you! Lion Cubs are for kindergarten and younger. these days. Originally the Lion cub was the Webelos. I'm not sure if the Lions ever get the Bobcat badge.I think the Lion patch is in place of the Bobcat.

@@KnifeChatswithTobias Yeah, we never had no stinken Tiger cubs in our den, nor even in the Pack. We came in as Bobcats (I forget what we had to do but it was easy and could be done in a few weeks back in the 50's). Then we worked on Wolf, Bear, Lion, Webelos, then Boy Scouts, and up the ranks. 'Em were the good old days.

I am not usually a fan of orange. The limited special edition I could deal with it. It is a unique looking knife. Haven't seen one like that. I don't like that current Delrin color either. That saw looked pretty stout for a folding traditional tool. The extra tool in the bare bottom look very good. Probably couldn't use bare anything on name in scouts now after the scandle. Nice display tin. Not so sure about the sheath would probably get a good slip for it. The big SCHRADE across it spoils it for me plus makes it look more like a big multitool. Thanks for showing it.

With my 96OT, the pin only goes in one way as well, it is hard to put it in incorrectly.
@KnifeChatswithTobias

I think whomever put mine in at the factory jammed it in incorrectly. It was damn near impossible to get out and then it was bent I when I finally removed it. I straitened it, sand it down and polished and then slowly jiggled it in. I noticed afterwards it really only fits one way!

I like the great looking metal box and knife name. Boy Scouts of America Buzzsaw Trapper by Schrade. I have to wonder how someone that made the USA Schrade knives feels about losing the job they worked at for years feels about that. It seems there are lots of Companies that went Bankrupt only to rematerialize just fine that moved to China. Buying what you want from any place you want is a freedom we have and that is a good thing. I try hard to buy local; I bought Chinese pocket knives because of the price they sell for. However; I have more than twice as many USA made knives in my collection than from any other place. I have knives made from many places in the World. Because that is part of the fun of collecting knives or anything you want to collect. I worked for a company for 32 years and built products with sweat and muscles using antiquated tooling. You become a living part of the company and are loyal to your work and the company. Then some CEO comes from Outer space and sells your life’s career and cuts your pension in half with a sorry; it is good for the company speech. Then sends every production job to Mexico. Who made the products that the White Shirts sold? People like me and millions of others; we built the companies paid by the hour following the rules. Not one year I worked for 32 years the company failed to make an equitable profit. Two classes of people are obvious in America; the haves and have not classes. I worked hard as a have not and feel content; the young overeducated people are the ones who I feel sorry for. There are millions of hungry illegals coming happy to sneak into the country and take any job for any pay. You-No- Work; You-No-Eat is a rule they know a lot about.

It seems strange the the saw blade extends that far past the bottom of the knife. Is that part sharp?
@KnifeChatswithTobias
@KnifeChatswithTobias 3 жыл бұрын
This is very similar as to the way Victorinox and Wenger do their wood saws. The tip just barely extends pass the frame so you can flip it open with your finger. The small area is not sharp.

A wonderfull knife, not sure why they put the OT shield on it instead of a boy scout shield. BR= Blade Runner?? no couldn't be don't have a clue about that one. A nice big sawblade is much handier then the normal two bladed trappers. The fact they put bone handles on it is great I hate the sawcut Delrin on Old Timers. The swirl resin handles on Schrade knives is much better. The tin looks very beautyfull as does the sheath. Tiger claw hmm like the pattern! thanks for a proper review on this knife Tobias.

I agree with you about the rather ugly Old Timer sawcut delrin. I had an OT stockman as a "beater" in my tool bag for many years where the looks of that delrin didn't really matter. It was a very good work knife but somewhere, somehow, it decided one day to "jump" out of my bag and run away from home..

Sad state of affairs America is currently in that we are so beholden and dependent on China. I don't have a problem with people buying Chinese knives in the secondary Market but in God's name please don't support one of America's biggest enemies and national security threat by buying their products if you can help it. It is difficult to do when shopping for car parts miscellaneous things around the house but when it comes to knives that can easily be done. That type of compromise just leaves a bad taste in mouth, is all, buying knives cuz their cheap.
