Around any star, there is an area with a temperature suitable for liquid water to exist. That area is called Habitable Zone or Goldilocks Zone. Planets within this zone are most likely to have liquid water. The planet Mars has never been inside the Sun's habitable zone.
However, we can see all the signs of liquid water on Mars today. If we look at the surface of Mars, we can see the traces of rivers and water bodies where water once flowed.
We have evidence that water existed on Mars for about 1.5 billion years. The first single-celled organisms formed just fifty or seventy billion years after water formation on Earth.
So some questions come naturally to us.
1). How did liquid water exist on Mars in the past, despite not being within the Sun's habitable zone?
2). If there was water, where has that water gone? What are the reasons Mars is a desert today? Will this fate come to Earth tomorrow?
3). If there had been water on Mars for 1.5 billion years, could life have originated there?
