I have just made my first WITCH at 68 years old. I’m 68 not the witch. LOL. I took a class from someone in my area and she is fabulous. I found that I needed help between classes and found you!!! You are fabulous! I love how to explain everything! I seem to be able to do faces and it comes to me naturally but hands not so much!! You have been a great help to this old lady and I now have a new ART to pass my time and to stay YOUNG!!! I have those old hands you speak of and I too love them. I am a seamstress and have done that for 50 years. On to something new and I am thrilled . THANK YOU SEW MUCH FOR YOUR TALENT!! Londi

Josh, I'm 53 and just now starting to get into stop motion filming. Let me start off by saying THANK YOU so very much for these tutorials, you have an amazing talent, a great teacher, and I;m just in awe watching how you transform a blob of clay into such realistic figures. If I can get to a level of 50% of your talent before I die I'd be happy. you are deffinetly one of the greats. Again, thank you very much for sharing your talent.

Apart from the actual sculpt which is amazing, your videos are really enjoyable to watch, from the editing, to the "script", all the way to the small jokes and the different cameras used. You are very good not only as an artist, but as a tutor as well, which is a hard thing to accomplish. Greetings from Greece.

Wow, that is VERY kind and generous! While I've considered doing a Patreon, I decided against it for now. The truth is I'm blessed with a really great day job making videogames and that pays the bills (And my art/video hobby) just fine. I may change my mind later, like if we lose our roommate or something, but for now I'm just happy to give back to the art community in this small way. Honestly, just sharing my videos around is the best thing you can do for me now. That way I've got a platform in case it ever does become financially burdensome to produce these, then I can do Patreon to offset it. Thanks again! Stay classy! :)

Wonderful demonstration. I have only one tiny nit to pick, and it took seven lessons to find one! You remembered that the fat pad above the eye sags in the aging process. You reminded us that the nose and ear continue to grow. You showed the jowls and sagging under the chin. In fact, the only detail you missed is that the lips lose collagen and grow thinner and that while the lip grows thinner, loss of muscle tone may drag it down, causing an overhang. An amazing and wonderful lesson, informative and entertaining. Loved every minute,

I love your videos Josh, I've just recently become interested in sculpture after a lifetime of drawing, do you find that sculpting enhances your ability to draw, in that it it gives you a better understanding of 3d form?
@JoshForeman
@JoshForeman 7 жыл бұрын
Maybe. It's hard to tell since I've been sculpting as long as I've been drawing.
@NOSTI2ADAMUS
@NOSTI2ADAMUS 7 жыл бұрын
Josh, is being a good drawer a necessary skill in order to be a good sculptor? What if I don't really want to start my design/sketch on a piece of paper but rather get to it right away on the clay? I am just not a good drawer, that's why I ask.
@JoshForeman
@JoshForeman 7 жыл бұрын
I get this question a lot. I'm biased because I'm not very good at drawing myself. I can do details like nobody's business, but when it comes to perspective and composition I'm really weak in those areas. The reason I love sculpture so much is that you get perspective for free, and composition comes more naturally. I consider my initial drawing work to be more general concepts that I can then take to the next level in a sculpture. But most of the time if I want to plan ahead for a sculpture I'll just make a little sculpture first. Really blocky and simple just to prove out the proportions or pose. That way, no drawing is needed.

Wooooooooooiah absolutely incredible. I'm very new to sculpture, this could be a stupid question... Would it be possible to get the actual eyeball to look older with slight blood shot veins or cataracts? You are an excellent tutor and make it all look so easy! Thanks for being so kind to share your skills and knowledge I really appreciate your help.
@JoshForeman
@JoshForeman 4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. You can achieve a cataract effect by simply not carving in for the iris and pupil. I've never tried to add veins in the sculpt, but I suppose there's not reason you couldn't do it.

Heyo. These sculpting tutorials are super rad. I've been applying them to my drawing and sketching since I don't have shit to sculpt with yet but even so they're still funny and useful. One knit-picky/possibly-helpful note I have on this lesson is that the veins you sculpted are rather prominent, whenever I draw a vein on a hand or something I'll kind of make it dip in and out of sight like this _----_____-----------______-------_____ as it goes over the valleys and hills of bone and tendon. Idk if thats helpful or not. p.s. you're ultra talented at all this

first off love these tutorials! second... i bought a couple pounds of the sculpy firm and it is not nearly as smooth as what im seeing here. lots of kneading and yet the amount of force needed to apply small pieces results in deformation and smoothing and blending is frustrating because rather than blend the clay just pulls apart. thoughts?
@JoshForeman
@JoshForeman 6 жыл бұрын
Well it's very possible you just got an old batch. It's also possible you underestimate just how much kneading is required. Have you tried tearing off small, pea-sized bits and kneading those individually into very thin pancakes? If even that's not working you could try regular non-firm super sculpey. Also, you can mix regular and firm in any ratio that works best for you.

What are your thoughts on stage-baking.
@JoshForeman
@JoshForeman 7 жыл бұрын
I'm going to be getting into that for the intermediate classes I'm working on now. I only did it for one thing on this piece, for the pot. But I'll be showing techniques for doing it more aggressively later. Basically, I don't do full bakes, just enough to keep the stuff that's set from getting dented and scratched.

Barbie's and Action Man's are in 1/6th scale, so that head probably fit in around 1/4-1/6 then i guess. I will post an image of my sculpture here too once it's finished, i'm sculpting an officer in the swedish army in 1911.
