You definitely don't want to step in it. I probably laughed at that more than I should have. 🤣 Those little touches really brought the scene to life.

Such easy and simple ideas for the yard. It is amazing on how many of us modelers have perfect rail yards. I have everything I need for my paper mill yard to make it looked used. Thanks Tim and especially for letting me know not to “step in it”.

Great job blending the bottom edge of the backdrop to the 3D scenery. One step further would be to blend the building flat edges with some tall trees on each end. Beautiful work so far.

Great info and ideas. Just started to build my layout this past week after all these years if saying that I was going to build one. My space is only 10’ x 10’ , so around the room shelf style is what so am doing. Thanks again for all of your insight.

Thanks Kevin! With a little careful planning you can have an absolute incredible layout in that space. Just look at my friend Thomas Klimoski’s channel. His layout is about that size and is a blast to operate.

Looks terrific! I gotta say, I thought the backdrop WAS blended prior to you adding the grass. It looked like there was some erosion and bare dirt showing, or the edge of some broken pavement... A couple of other tricks people may consider, particularly in yards, is a grease trail - easily created with a black Sharpie marker, or a trail of spilled coal - either down the middle of the tracks or between tracks. Great looking railroad and tremendous job on the backdrops! Thanks for sharing!

Hi Tim. Great video. DJ of DJ’s Trains has shown in his videos that CSX for example will put down a drop cloth underneath the yard job locomotives or other equipment that is tied down in the yard to catch fuel, oil or other fluids that might leak out to prevent damage to the local environment. By the way - What the heck is going on with all the derailments here lately?????? Love your layout my friend
@SeaboardCentral
@SeaboardCentral Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, areas where locomotives are typically tied down will have a drop cloth. I only have mine here temporarily until my main yard is built. Derailments happen for a number of reasons, but my opinion is that these mega trains which exceed 10,000 feet and lack of proper inspections due to staff cuts is the leading factors.

Just a suggestion, because your track already looks stunning, but maybe you could consider further emphasizing the mainline track with some weathering powders to darken them down the middle. I’ve seen that effect in many photos or when I’m looking at Google Earth images. The more frequent use of main tracks is evident by them being darker than less used track. Again, just a thought. Awesome work as always.
@SeaboardCentral
@SeaboardCentral Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, I mentioned that in the last video. Mainline track that sees heavy use will typically start showing a rust effect between the rails. While I may end up adding some light weathering to it, mine by no means is a heavy duty class 1 rail line that sees multiple trains per day. Thanks for commenting! Tim

I have been watching you for a very long time. I usually don't comment but really just enjoy your videos and small bits. However , I do have a question and I may have missed you explaining your new layout progression. Question is, are you building this new layout one section or (diorama) so to speak at a time? If so, this is the coolest layout build I have ever experienced and I love it!
@SeaboardCentral
@SeaboardCentral Жыл бұрын
Thanks Gary for being a loyal viewer of the channel! With this layout I am going for quality over quantity by rushing through the build. One thing I am after is to make sure I don’t make the same mistakes. I am building off what I learned from the previous layout. Avoiding things I didn’t like and improving on things I did like. This layout is being built in three phases. Right now I am still on phase one and will probably be on it for the next year. For some, I am not moving fast enough and they would rather see a full layout of benchwork and track with minimal scenery. That’s not my goal. At all. If it works for others, cool. But I would be burned out and it would drive me insane. Hopefully folks will understand my methods and have some patience with the build. One step at a time. Cheers! Tim

Just my thoughts, no suggestion, but I liked the base or foundation of that building being shown, by yue side of the fence. On video, to me, it looked as if water had washed the rock and soil away from that Little spot.
