Hyram himself was very critical of "white-saviorism" in his video about missionary work so I was astonished to see him now commercializing images of African children to sell his own skincare products. Did these African children give permission to have their faces used in advertisements? Were they compensated? Hyram's skincare line is not even sold in Africa!

I was hoping that Hyram would never come out with a skincare line because it is just going to hurt him. Overpriced products in tiny bottles targeted towards teens for their parents to pay for. I unfortunately see that not even Hyram is exempt from hypocrisy. Preaching about enviroment and unexpensive products and here he comes with tiny plastic bottles containing virtually nothing. With the most godawful ad.

That's just how things have always been. Charisma and personality play a huge role in someone's success. Some people just have it in them to attract other people / be popular. And some really intelligent people will be left out because they have less appealing personalities. I'm not mad at Hyram for that, I think what he did is understandable. In all honesty, when you have 4 million people following you, who wouldn't be tempted to do something with it, business-wise ? Everyone needs to earn a buck. He saw an opportunity and he took it. And probably tried his best to come out with something ok. Now as a consumer I have the choice (and the responsibility) to inform myself from different sources before buying something and not just buy everything because Hyram says it's good. I hope he will learn and improve these products over time.

i wonder what people here consider greenwashing. in comparison to true sustainablity for instance. i thought greenwashing was the process of making something not sustainable appear sustainable at least from a marketing point of view. but there are sustainable brands that have been always eager to leave a small footprint. i feel like a lot of folks use that term to discredit rather than a description.

My problem with him is calling himself a Skincare Specialist. No, an enthusiast is one thing. A Specialist is another. I worked for a Pediatrician. Doesn’t make me a Pediatric Specialist. Do I know more than the average person, sure. Still doesn’t make me a specialist. Some of us have spent our life dedicated to this. And it’s kind of a slap in the face. I get he gives the disclaimer that he can’t diagnose or treat, but he still uses a title that many of us sacrificed a TON to get.

@VIVIANA CORTES TREVIÑO if you re-read my post I literally said he give the disclaimer. These are just my feelings as someone who sacrificed so much to, as a single teen mom, finish high school early, work all day, going to school at night for almost 2 years, passing my boards. Then doing it all over again in another state. It’s hard not to be a little miffed when I estimate about 6 years of education in the field, for someone claim to be a specialist. Do you see where I’m coming from? The definition of a Specialist is a person who concentrates primarily on a particular subject or activity; a person highly skilled in a specific and restricted field. It’s restricted for a reason because State Boards of Cosmetology regulate Estheticians and Medical Boards regulate dermatologists. The regulations insure you actually have the knowledge to call yourself a specialist in your field.

she went easy on him given the marketing, ingredients, pricing, and greenwashing associated with this line. i ultimately agree with her, there's not a lot of ingredients in this line that are necessarily, "harmful" per se, but rather, just over-priced inkey list formulations marked up at a premium price-point because of hyram's name value/recognition. i compare lines like these to, la roche posay for example, and performance, research/development and formulation are not even in the same stratosphere despite similar pricing. the logic that consumers should pay a premium for a smaller amount of product that isn't even innovatory by any stretch because "we like his content on youtube" is marketing at its finest. consumers should pay for effective and well-developed products. kind of ridiculous.

My impression was: "selflessly making oneself hundreds of thousands of dollars" The fact is that Hyram could probably raise as much money from charity streams without creating waste. And using more affordable and less skincare products in general and making your own donation makes more sense. Even though I don't really agree with the idea of charity. It has been a practice for thousands of years to make sure to keep poor people around so that you could seem charitable by giving them money without really helping them. As long as western imperialism and white supremacist organisations like NATO, the EU, and the USA exist, no amount of charity will fix the issues in the developing world

@Abdul Basit We can stop creating skin care lines and also donate to charities. We don’t need more products on the line in order to donate to charities that’s just silly. Sure it gives some money to these causes, but there’s already charities and organizations supporting these causes and the formulas aren’t even innovative enough for me to justify buying it because I’d likely throw out half the bottle which would go straight into a landfill and wasted. I honestly don’t get the point, and that’s probably because it’s a cash grab more than trying to be sustainable. It’s kind of a waste to create a whole new brand of Non-innovative formulas that are already existing on the market when he could just start a fundraising campaign for sustainable causes or team up with a line that already exists. It just comes off as wasteful and self-centered to me. If you have something new to bring to the skin care world by all means create a line, but don’t copy old formulas and then slap sustainability causes on the price tag and think you’ve done some thing new or worthwhile. If sustainability is what he cared about, it would be the focus of his project. But it isn’t it’s his own line that is the focus of his project.

They are very cost effective and seem to do well and be fairly non-irritating for my almost 65 years old skin. I love their Retinol and Niacinamide serums. I tried those after I tried The Ordinary and haven't gone back yet. I have used the Aquation for my moisturizer for awhile now, on your recommendation and it's really nice.

Thank you Dr Dray! Happy Monday everyone! I am not overly excited by his new line. At all. Love Hyram though, he will always have a place in my heart since he is the 1 to ACTUALLY start learning about skincare. Through him, I found Dr Dray! 💜💜

Thank you for reviewing this line! The only product I was personally interested in was the mandelic acid serum since I have rosacea and wasn't sure it would be gentle enough. Thanks for clearing that up.

Dr. Dray is the only dermatologist on KZfaq I go to because her advice is backed by scientific studies and evidence and as a scientist myself I really value this about her. I’ve been following her advice for years and her videos have helped me improve my skincare routine dramatically.

Really appreciate such an honest, thorough review! For what it’s worth, I believe the niacinimide moisturizer is designed to have the consistency of/function like a serum, so that may be part of why it was…like that so to speak. 🤷‍♀️

Was looking forward to this review!! I actually bought the cleanser and moisturizer, and they have not yet arrived. Not interested in the actives -- I'm already set with my routine there and my rosacea skin doesn't need any of these serums. Thanks Dr. Dray! ☺️😎

Thanks for the review Dr Dray, sounds like he/they did a pretty good job on ingredients for a initial roll out of his new line. I don't think it's for me, seems more of a beginner line but is a decent, cruelty free line, that's fragrance free with some good ingredients that's also giving back for those who are in need of these more gentler formulations. Also, sounds like maybe their packaging may need some tweaks. Usually the community that posts in your comments is very supportive and overall positive so I am surprised by the strong opinions here and the back and forth with one another. Anyway, great review, as always, thanks for being here!

It’s a marketing ploy. His audience is a bunch of idiots. So they will buy into it. .. I say that because he’s a guy with google - no education in skincare. He googles ingredients then makes a video about it and people take his word 🤣🤣 they al deserve what they get

@@miac6262 honestly he should have stuck with promoting the ingredients rather than talking about saving the world in every advertisement. This guy isn’t even an esthetician or dermatologist yet he gave himself the title of “skincare specialist”. What does that even mean?

I don't think his skincare is particularly bad. But the way he is doing the marketing with his line, especially the 'selfless' thing is quite hypocrite after all that video talking about missionary work. He can just said he partnered up with inkeylist and make special line as we know he is a fan of the brand.

I think Hyrems 2nd channel is also called Selfless. For me the cleanser is the only product that sounds good for my old “wiser” skin as I have yet to find anything anywhere anyhow that does not leave my skin feeling a bit dried out. Thank you for the review! You are literally one of maybe 5 “KZfaqrs” I trust info from ❤️

Hi! I read the information on his website, and it says that his Mandelic Acid serum contains 3% Mandelic Acid, and his Salicylic Acid serum contains 0.5% Salicylic Acid. I've expressed my opinion about his products a few times. For me, i just think this is another skincare products that we don't need. We have a lot of better options out there with more reasonable price. I personally don't want to spend more than $10 for a skincare product at this point. But this is just me, considering i live in Southeast Asia where skincare products are very affordable and accessible.

From what I gathered, the name selfless was supposed to be about the consumer not feeling like taking care of their skin was something selfish and they shouldn’t feel bad for spending time take care of themselves. At least that’s what hyram explained for the meaning of the brand’s name. It doesn’t seem like a well thought out name unless someone goes through the backstory of why he chose the name. At first glance it just looks like the furthest thing from selfless.
