My HD-25's are only 1½ year old, but having been dropped on the floor around 50 times, and I've used them for over 200 DJ gigs, and they still work flawlessly. Most sturdy DJ headphones I've ever had, and the sound is just great.

First of all, big fan and soon-to-be Patreon supporter (waiting to turn 18)!! I'm a DJ, and so far i've been using the HD25's for all my mixing and commuting needs. but slowly, i've begun to find the treble to be quite harsh on the HD25 and my good frnd & mentor suggested changing my headphones to prevent any hearing damage risk.... So i was looking for a pair of headphones for djing, that has a similar sound signature to the HD25's but with a treble that is not so harsh. Thank you! :)

Great review! The HD25 has been through so many changes throughout the years. I saw people trying to sell the HD25-1 for like $300. My advice to anyone reading this is to just buy the new model that sells for about $150. It's the same sound but at a better price.

I've been using these to DJ since 2008 and am still on my first pair, they still look and feel like new. Yes the pressure hurts abit at first but once you've "worn them in" it eases up. . . . You could wear these headphones for an entire day and not notice them on your head. The noise cancellation is decent, and the sound is well . . it's monitor sound, it's not dressed up it's not bassy, but it is still fantastic and I've played on some pretty loud sound systems.

Hi Lachlan! Great reviews, and I've definitely subscribed. Hoping for some quick help. I'm trying to decide between the Sennheiser HD25 and the Momentum on-ear. I listen to mostly electronic music, but definitely not limited to that. Comfort is also important, as I plan on using them at work for many hours. Thanks!

These do sound like strong contenders for portable headphones. Mine will be arriving soon! I'm also going to apply the mass loading and dampening kit (for bass and detail), from Custom Cans. From what I've read so far, the modification kit only refines the headphones and changes very little of its sound signature. I think changing the material of the cable could make at least a tiny audible difference. The steel cable is rated at 4 Ohms!

Hmm. If comfort is a thing, then I might be more inclined to recommend the Momentum On-Ear even though I prefer the sound of the HD25. If you are going to wear them long hours I honestly don't recommend either though, since they are still on-ear headphones. Perhaps look at a good comfortable over-ear, like the Momentum, MDR-1R or the Philips L1/L2/X1?

Having owned these for DJ use for the better half of 5 years now, it's probably worth noting the following: *Headband does get slightly less rigid over time, improving comfort for longer term listening *Standard pleather earpads are extremely durable (I'm still on the original pair, VS my third pair for my Pioneer HDJ-2000), and also become softer and more comfortable over time. *Nothing has needed replacing so far PS: Thanks for the reference Lachlan!

I'd like to note that you can buy a coiled cable for this headphone. Sennheiser makes an official one that is very expensive, but if you shop on Amazon, I can highly recommend the "Richer-R" coiled cable for the HD25. They sound and perform just as good as the official coiled cable, but are A LOT cheaper. I use my HD25s connected to my Reloop Elite DJ mixer when DJing and they sound amazing. I love the headphone and the fact that they are modular means I don't have to worry about breaking any piece of it. Great review.

Hello Laclan! Been listening to quite alot of your reviews now. Good channel, I like the format and how you've strctured your reviews, and a big + for always having a smile on your face but still keep it very sophisticated. I'd be thankful for some recommendations on a pair of on-ear or over-ear. I've had a big amount of headphones over the years (mostly in the lower/mid price class) but its not until recently i've started to become a little more analytical and spoiled. So im not entirely sure which signature i prefer or what is my thing. I have the SH momentum IE's,which I saw you didnt like at all. It could be my lack of preferences but I do enjoy the signature in these. Im not very knowledgeable with all the terms concerning audio, but i'll try to explain what I probably or maybe are looking for. I know that the headphones are not independently responsible for how something sound but im quite sensitive to all forms of agressive/sharp/high-pitched sounds and also when the bass is too punchy/aggressive or the sub-bass is very extended or rumbly. Can you explain what boomy bass is? I like when theres a good seperation in the frequency range and that you are able to distinguish the different elements/ highs/mids/low. I dont like when it sounds distant though. I like bass, and i dont think im after a neutral or balanced sound, and def not a flat sound. But i want my bass tight, although not too punchy or fast. Its just that i dont want that extended bass tone rumble which also just disturbs the rest of the music. I want a bit of subass but if it gets too extend or rumble my ears thinks its sharp and disturrbing. I actually bought these pairs (the hd 25) but to me they were hugely dissapointing. First of: the are not comfortable. They sit on your head like something someone has forced to sit on your head. And the sound is just agreesive and very forward. They are not dynamic-sounding( no distinctive separation in the frequency rang). Just very lively and fast and has a pretty closed soundstage. So this is not a signature im after apparently. So, can you help me? :-) /Marcus
@lachlanlikesathing
@lachlanlikesathing 9 жыл бұрын
marcus eriksson Thanks for your kind words :) Boomy bass is when the bass has a lot of mid-bass emphasis (think more the lowest registers of the male voice) and is particularly echoey or congested. I think based on what you are saying, the thing I can think that ticks the most boxes is the NAD Viso HP50. But you may want to try it first to see if it is comfortable.... otherwise my next best recommendation would be the Beyerdynamic T51P, but I hesitate because you don't like the HD25 so you may just not like the on-ear style.
@MarcusyesMarcus
@MarcusyesMarcus 9 жыл бұрын
***** You said in your review of the HP50 that they're slightly more warm than neutral. That made me a bit suspicious, because I dont think I prefer a balanced more flat sound. You didn't talk so much about the low-end in the review either. How is it? I know its a weird and probably an impossible comparision to do but can you eloborate a little more on the signature of the upper mentioned and try to do a comparasion to the signature of the sennheiser momentum IE'S. And just to be a little more annoying: Whats the diference in signature and overall sound between the two headphones you recommended.
@lachlanlikesathing
@lachlanlikesathing 9 жыл бұрын
marcus eriksson Unfortunately I don't own the HP50 any more, but the bass is quite tight. You should check out some other reviews of it :) It's a very easy to listen to headphone.

I'd really like to call myself a headphone guy, but the thing is once I bought the hd25 almost 5 years ago I didn't feel like I needed any more headphones. Aside from my dad's vintage beyerdynamic DT 880 s, I don't own any other headphones and I haven't bought any since that I have kept. Also new users if you see this if they're uncomfortable to you stretch them over a box(a little wider than your head) before you use them. Even just stretch them over your legs, they can totally take the punishment and will be a lot more comfortable. Lachlan I've been watching your vids for awhile, sorry I just subbed now lol.

I had a couple of pairs of HD-25s - one -1 70ohm set and an -SP set (which I don't have access to atm). I have had both since about 2000, and have come to use the HD 25-1 set almost exclusively. I've replaced the cups once. I love them. However, they are getting quite old now and I was quite curious about the amperior model, which seemed quite similar and when I heard they were going out of production and seeing a pair on offer (a little over 100GBP), I decided to pick up a pair. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed. The sound is not the same at all...the mid-range is too loud and it gives me some ear ache after a while. I almost never use them, which is a shame. I did see a pair of the new HD 25 "aluminium edition" in a Sennheiser store recently and I wondered if they had just renamed the Amperior, so it is good to head from your video that isn't the case. I look forward to hearing what you think of those (I'm wondering if I can sell my Amperiors on e-bay and replace them with Aluminiums).

Hi!I have the HD25, but I want to do an upgrade, so I was looking for the Momentum over ear.Do you think it could be a good choice?I really like the HD25 though, do you think it's worth to get the Momentum over ear?I mean, I don't really know if there's a nice sound improvement or they just sound different.(I tried the Dr Dre Studio which I found way way way worse than the HD25, if that could help you). Your videos are great!

I have been using a pair of HD 26 for a week, and I really love them. More comfortable than HD 25 (which I normally use) and really good bass reproduction, but soundwise still very well balanced. Same build quality as HD 25, and still no flashy bits. Also built for professional use (they are a headphone version of the HDM 26 microphone headset for broadcast use). If you like HD 25, chances are that you will like HD 26 even more.

Would you recommend the Sennheiser Amperior over the Momentum? When looking solely at sound quality what are your thoughts on those two compared to the Audiotechnica ES-700 and the ATH-M50? I care a lot about female vocals and I know you have said before that audiotechnica is really well done in this department, but I'm willing to compromise on that aspect for the overall sound quality of the product. Sorry I know I threw a lot of different variables in there. Any direction/guidance/advice is greatly appreciated! I love your reviews :) They're very informative and concise! Thank you so much!

its 2023... and I got my Sennys made in Ireland on 11/05/2008. I had to changed like 5 pairs of pads. I changed Wire 2 times (one was cheap from ebay and the other $35 original) I changed the left driver because i disassembled it and destroyed it in the process. MAJOR problem with the headphone is the 2 pin connectors that connect on the driver side. The connectors come loose all the time (contact problem) making the need for constant readjustments twerking and fiddling. I have the same problem with my old and new driver. Its just poor design. its a known problem and you can further research it on KZfaq.

Well, some times you get carried away, and I think that it might be the case here regarding my opinion of the HD26... I have been sitting tonight and comparing 2 HD25 headsets with the HD26, and I must admit that it was a bit more complicated than I thought. I still think that the bass reproduction on HD26 is slightly better; a bit deeper than HD 25, but not bloated like the Beats headphones. But when we get to the upper mid range, the HD 26 has a tendency to emphasize that range (and tone down the high range), where the HD 25 has a bit more laid back approach in the upper mid range. So especially on vocals, the HD 25 is actually a bit better (in my taste). Thus a short answer for your question is, that HD 25 and HD 26 are quite close, with each their distinct sound. But both are real monitor headphones; nothing is hidden or missing, and both reveal things that are masked in most other headphones I have heard. Both are great headphones, and I might well get me a pair of HD 26 in spite of my reservations...

what about this and the vmoda m100, which one do you think is better besides looks? I care more about isolation and a clear sound, thanks!

OverCoverOfficial I'm afraid I haven't tried the V-Moda M100, but note that the M-100 is ported and noise isolation may be worse.

Have a look at dj ravine's 2014 headphones. I forgot about isolation and sound but the m100 has a metal construction and pillow-feeling earpads. He also recommends to get extra large earpads.

for those wondering, hd25 and amperior have exact same drivers. amperior has metal cups and a street cable with a mic. there the only differences
@lachlanlikesathing
@lachlanlikesathing 10 жыл бұрын
The Amperior does not have the same driver. The driver they used has a lower 18 ohm impedance than the 70 ohm driver of the HD25. For the HD25 Aluminium Edition they used the same driver as the HD25. The difference isn't huge, but it's certainly significant when it comes to amplifier selection.

Man I have these and despite their good sound they are painful to my ears. I upgraded the pads to yaxi pads (much thicker) but still they are a pain. I mainly use the HD280 Pro now...

Great review! I've just bought these for location video for which they excel. I keep reading that the ear cups are able to rotate so that you can monitor the live sound. Very useful. Can't figure out how to do this and I don't want to use brute force. Anyone else know?
@lachlanlikesathing
@lachlanlikesathing 9 жыл бұрын
kipling1957 It's possible to swivel one of the ear cups (only one) backwards so that you can hear with one ear. It shouldn't take much force.

***** Well I tried. Gets to about 30 degrees rotation and flips back (that's as far as I'm willing to rotate!). But I've found sliding the cup to behind one ear works okay. The headband is tight enough to still hold them in place. Thanks.

+kipling1957 Well, after 6 months of use I finally figured this out - kinda by accident. I had been trying to rotate the ear cup around its vertical axis, i.e., so that it would end up upside down against the head. I thought that was what rotate meant. No, the way it rotates is by "swinging" the cup either backwards or forward, so that it can, for example, rest against the side of your temple cup face down, leaving your ear uncovered. A crucial point is that only ONE cup can be configured in this way; by default it is set to the left side. If you prefer the right cup to rotate, you have to disassemble the cup from the head strap by removing the central screw and swapping the parts over. The non-swingable side has a locking pin and a hole, whereas the swingable side has a pin and grove mechanism that allows rotation. There are no instructions about this to be found anywhere online by Sennheiser, nor elsewhere else on the web. So I hope this is helpful to some folks.

I thought both swiveled! I was right about to either force it, take it apart, or take it back, thank god!
