Thank you for this my father is retired now but he worked on f-4s F-16s and after at homestead AFB and after hurricane andrew we relocated to Seymour Johnson AFB where my dad worked on F-15s and we lived on base housing I had the greatest times of my child hood on base and your video brought back so many memories from playing at the arcades at the Bx to going to the movies

Thank you for the wonderful tour. Stationed at SJ 63-65. It appears that the entire base has been rebuilt. In 1961, two H bombs were dropped when the B-52 crashed near Goldsboro. I worked on the flight line on 52's and never heard a word about the Broken Arrow. Not too surprising, since there have been 32 Broken Arrows that DOD will admit to.

Crew Chief 77 to 79 334th F-4E. The base also had B52’s and KC-135’s. The 334th supplied the Alert Base with the F-4s we always got to visit that building and hang out for a little. Google Earth still shows the Alert Hanger there with F-15s on the ready. Lots of partying back then. I don’t recognize anything from the video. I visited in May 2023 for the Wings over Wayne Air Show. Didn’t see much of the base then. Shuffled us in and out. I was hoping to be able to drive around a bit. But at least I got to see some of the base form this video. Thanks for posting!

I was there from 1976 to 1980. Started out with the 8TDCS until shortly after that very bad day in September of 1977. Then 334th as a 922X0 and also 335th TDY to NATO. Thanks for the tour!

awesome video, was stationed on SJAFB from 1980-84, 4th security police squadron. I loved the based, we had an actual golf course. There was another entry from the back gate, and we used to go to the drive in movie there. I was also a part of Crested cap, if anyone remembers that

We were stationed here from 1978-1987. It has changed a lot since then. They had the F4E and B-52's then...I used to go to the end of the runway and watch the F-4's go into AB.

Man! it looks well taken care of. I retired from the Air Force in 99 and live in San Antonio. I drive to "The Gateway to the Air Force" Lackland AFB almost once or twice a week. Either for doctor's appointments or Commissary runs. It's sad they're not maintaining the grounds like they used to. I know it's because of budget cuts but this is the HOME of the Air Force. I was stationed at Kelly AFB next door, it closed down years back. Times, they are a changing and not necessarily for the good.

Thanks for taking the time to make and publish this video. It brings back a lot of very good memories. I was stationed at Seymour for just shy of 5 years from early 1987 to late 1991. I was in the 2012th Communications Squadron. I worked in small building at the far end of the flightline (opposite end from where the tower is). The building was co-located inside a fenced compound. The compound housed the Alert building where the NEACP aircraft would park. I believe our little radio maintenance building is gone...not sure about the Alert facility. If you ever decide to do another video like this, I would love to see what that area looks like now. I was filled with anticipation when you were driving towards the Slocumb gate. I was hoping you'd turn left there instead of going through the gate :) But again, thanks for doing this. I enjoyed the virtual stroll down memory lane.

Nice video. I was there 80-83 in the 334 AMU as a crew chief. I don't remember much but when you call out certain buildings and such it rings a bell. Thanks for the memories.

Was stationed there early 80's. R&R shop. F4E then. Theywere getting ready for theF15. I still missSJAFB . 4th but 1st.

I remember back in '79 when they built that new BX and then the new Commissary right beside it. A lot of us got detailed to help with the initial stocking of those two gigantic (at least gigantic back then) facilities. Combined they increased the square footage from the old facilities by about a factor of 10.

my dad was stationed here from ‘69 to ‘71. We lived off base in Long Leaf Acres. Not sure if that’s the correct name?! all i remember is lots of sand and very tall pine trees!

Was there from 85 - 89. Isn’t there a Federal Prison on the base? I believe it came onboard in 89 or 90.
