Pro-tip for writing: Avoid adding lines to your story that only make sense in a meta-context. A guy saying "if you want a female superhero, make your own" carries a much different meaning in a world where superheroes are real and She-Hulk's law firm implies they are becoming increasingly more common.
@inferior3199

Yeah, it doesn't make sense in that world. The replies are talking about a "they" that in real world represent the writers or studios, but what do they represent in the MCU? Some secret lab that's producing superheros? It was stupid and cringe to add that to the show.

Here's the thing with wokeness: you don't get very many brownie points for cleverly weaving a feminist message into your narrative using allegory and metaphor. It flies right over the heads of the red guards on Twitter. No, the way to get praise from the peanut gallery of slacktivists and ideologues is to make the message as blunt and on the nose as possible, to do the absolute bare minimum to disguise the message or fit it into the story in a way that is consistent with the setting. The more awkwardly the message sticks out like a sore thumb, the more painfully obvious the allusion to some [current year] political topic, the better. Consider Rings of Power, that other abominable trashfire. If they really wanted to make commentary on race relations they had any number of ways to do so in a setting that has various humanoid *races* interacting and competing with each other. Hell, if Dwarves and Elves not getting along was just too allegorical to click with the bots on twitter, there are human races within the setting that are canonically described as having african and asian traits: the Southerlings and Easterlings respectively. Have them show up, maybe have the Numenoreans look down on them. No instead of finding any way to connect the message to the setting, they just settled for the least creative, most lore-breaking way to force diversity into the setting and then called the fans names for not accepting it.

I remember Blonsky being a Blood Knight in the Hulk movie, the first thing he asks when he sees Bruce's picture in the movie is "Is he a fighter?" and he looks excited at the prospect of taking on the Hulk. He was a character that liked competition and fighting for its own sake and was focused on becoming the strongest being in the world. This character in She Hulk is a completely different guy.

You know it's a good sign for your legal dramady when the shows own writers admit, almost immediately as said show is premiering, that they hated writing the "boring" legal scenes and had no idea how to handle them - hence why there's no jury and the judge just declares a "winner" from the bench. Forget featuring Abomination, this show is one. I'm not looking forward to the cameo with Daredevil given that it will almost certainly be a law-focused interaction when, again, the oh-so-powerful female writing squad have just straight-up come out and said they don't have a clue how to write legal dramas. My boy, Matt Murdock, has generally come out mostly unscathed from modern MCU trash (even the film featuring an Evanescence soundtrack is actually pretty good if you just watch the director's cut), but this show seems dedicated to smearing shit all over characters people actually like, so I'm sure that Matt will be a misogynist dickhead and/or hapless idiot to prop up Jen. That's really quite sad because the legal interactions between Jen (who has largely been a prosecutor throughout the comics) and Matt (who has always been a defense attorney) have always been some of my favorite crossovers in Marvel comics, but the very thought of my favorite comic book character even appearing in this show for another second fills me with dread. Thanks for that, Disney.

Really, I feel like so many 'faux feminist' pieces have this problem. It's almost like a 'spoiled little sister' complex, trying to appeal to the girls by letting them always win and feel perfect, because deep down you just think they're just selfish little brats who will throw a tantrum and tell on you if they don't get whatever they want. It's pretty demeaning to the female audience really and of course just makes the male audience frustrated due to being the deprived 'older brothers' who keep having to take the fall for them, always having to lose and share all their toys. :P

In the 2008 MCU Hulk movie, not the 2003 Ang Lee one, it's slightly implied that Emil Blonsky went a bit mad due to the unfinished and experimental knock off super soldier serum that Bruce Banner was working on before he moved the the serum that turned him into the Hulk (in the MCU timeline canon). That would require writers who bothered to study the source material and what came before in the MCU. Phase 4 is just a lazy hackneyed mess.

I’ll never forgive them for skipping Joe Fixit. Norton could have had a lot of fun with that, just basically his “fight club” persona in constant wise ass mode, “Casino” and “Oceans 11” type antics and drama with an invincible monster while Norton’s only live shots would be him asleep and sedated so he wouldn’t wander off from Vegas when Joe needed a rest. It's annoying as hell when the MCU takes good plot points from the comics and completely fucks them up either due to incompetence or pushing an agenda. In the comics, Jen gets fired partly due to her being She-Hulk and partly because of her attitude. She's more or less a self-destructive party girl and it causes a lot of problems for the firm she works at, despite her skill as a lawyer. Her being She-Hulk also hurt the company because, during a trial she almost wins, the other legal teams gets the jury verdict dismissed on the grounds of a bias due to the fact that her being a superhero and saved their lives. It leads to the bar-scene where a villain she stops attacks her, but she manages to talk the guy down and have drinks with him, pretending to be drunk herself. It leads to the guy passing out and her new boss coming in to congratulate her forward thinking and offering her a job in the Superhuman law firm. It ends up annoying her partly because she feels like she was only hired as She-Hulk, but also because you do eventually find out her boss only hired her to play nanny to a criminal family member of his. Also, seeing how shitty the bar scene in this series is just makes me think of Fantastic Four, where the Thing goes into the bar to drink his troubles away and while people stare at him, the owner shouts the people down and claim he's a hero for being a local that became an astronaut.

It's extra funny that the writer of a show episode about an unempathetic woman talking down a genius scientist after he explained his transformation also wrote Jen's conflict with Bruce here. Now THAT'S the Pickle Rick analogy.

It wasn’t the first hulk movie-there was “the hulk” with Eric banana-which the Ed Norton hulk movie recaps in like seven seconds at the beginning of “the Incredible Hulk” film. Although it is so convoluted though trying to figure out if the very first hulk movie of this century actually matters or not. The recap I mentioned pretty much allows you to skip the first movie

Nah. 15 minutes between escaping the underground laboratory and being recaptured in California are worth the visuals and fight scenes. Skip everything before and afterwards, however. He jumps past Las Vegas, of course.😩 I SO wanted a Joe Fixit movie by now. 😭

I watched a random clip of Futurama, and in 4 minutes there were more jokes in there (and good/funny ones) than an entire episode of this schlock. And these series are double or more the length of a Futurama episode.

I'm not crazy about their choice of actress. This is a big budget show you might expect to run for years. They could have chosen a younger, more attractive actress, and a have to assume they didn't because it would seem like "fan service", and everyone knows that serving the fans of an established character is the opposite of what's right, especially if those fans might be male, or God Forbid, also white. Then again, She-Hulk was always a spin-off character I never cared about.

I feel like how bad She Hulk is written stands out so much more after just finishing Better Call Saul and seeing what an _actual_ "Girlboss" female lawyer character looks like with Kim Wexler. She never faces hardship in that show because she's a woman, she faces hardship in that show because everyone around her is a short-sighted petty asshole regardless of her gender. It's why the episode "Carrot and Stick" is so fun to watch because she literally outdoes Saul himself with the kettlemans and it feels actually earned and makes sense instead of the writer's room stopping and going "WOAH HOLD ON how do we make every character around Kim break character and go full stupid just so she can have her moment" She's such a strong character that when you see her just living a normal, not exciting life in the flash forwards, it's just sad to look at. Like watching a wolf with no fangs.

Man I absolutely love Kim, and it's so simple to accomplish that by just showing us how she struggles. We saw her getting demoted, we saw her pulling every contact she had in hopes of getting her job back, we saw her work and work and then she succeeds, and doesn't get promoted. That is good intense drama that doesn't really on sexism as a tool for us to care

Funny thing is Jen actually DOES get fired in the comics but it’s actually because she kept getting drunk and being inappropriate at work, so the reason for her being fired was due to own personal fault.

perfection is flawed and flaws are perfect. Confusing at first, but when you think about it, the most loved heroes are flawed. There are always exceptions of course, but without flaws, there is no struggle. No struggle means you know they'd win and skips the journey to overcome. It's like starting a movie with The End.

I don't know why it's so hard that we have our characters exist in a world and not the world exist around the characters. I mean if she turns into an alcoholic because her boss fired her for little reason, then it's pretty obvious that the writers basically give Jen everything she needs without her own effort. The funniest thing is that the female main character written by these women fulfills more sexist stereotypes than female main characters written by most men.
