Also why would the people that are FOR Disney be arguing the sith cannot be around. It's the people that are against Disney star wars. Think people keep using " Jedi arrogance" as an excuse because I don't actually know what the term arrogant means. Arrogant doesn't mean stupid. It means a sense of superiority sometimes blindingly so, but only superiority not abjects stupidity.

The reason why the Jedi fell during the prequels is because of complacency and then being shoved into a war they had 0 idea how to handle, at least until TCW changed that. The jedi didn't know what to do during the clone wars, they were doing things that actively conflicted with their code and also caused a major rift between those who were more vocal about the republics corruption to those who served the republic (count dooku was after all, the first jedi to leave the order because he didn't want to be a lapdog for a corrupt republic). Then there was the 1000 years of the sith slowly waxing the greater force into creating a shroud of darkness, resulting in the jedi losing their ability to confidently peer into the force at the end of episode 1.

"Why Andor?" you ask. It's funny because for me, the time periods around the Galactic Civil War have the MOST potential for giving us a compelling story and conflict. I'm sick to death hearing about the Clone War phony war, where Palpatine was playing a game of solitaire with copies of a single soldier vs. copies of a single droid. But the buildup to the Galactic Civil War, and actual conflict with DIFFERENT leaders controlling each side? That's the World War II event of Star Wars. That's prime real estate.
@sandman616
@sandman616 2 ай бұрын
Andor is the best show no doubt, however, an old republic setting would be a lot better just because of the scale of the conflict with more jedi, more factions, more sith whereas the Galactic Civil War doesn't have the scale of the Clone Wars or any of the Old Republic Wars. But in the Disney Era of Star Wars we can only hope
@BaronGrackle
@BaronGrackle 2 ай бұрын
@@sandman616 No doubt an Old Republic setting (or one several years after the trilogies) would have plenty of scale and nuance, as much as anyone could hope for! But I also argue that the Galactic Civil War definitely reaches that scale. I think people just don't realize it because they've been exposed to more post-2000s media and less on earlier stuff. I grew up with video games like X-Wing, TIE Fighter, Dark Forces, Shadows of the Empire. There are Rebel factory systems that transition from secret to open resistance, in the aftermath of Yavin IV. There are racial and clan-based civil wars on planets and systems, often with clans siding Rebel or Imperial. There are neutral systems that are pulled into the conflict by force. There are criminal organizations hoping to manipulate the conflict into gaining more profits and power. And each battle matters, because at the end of the day, Palpatine isn't able to pull a switch that turns off one of the factions.

I agree with your sentiment, but the clone wars itself is also prime game for storytelling IF DAVE FILONI AND TCW DIDN'T TURN IT INTO A SATURDAY MORNING CARTOON. People often forget just how much of a 1000 iq move the war was, it dragged down the jedi and the republic, and also united all republic detractors into a singular force. Palpatine would then place himself as the savior of the republic, be given emergency powers and then frame the jedi for rebelling, justifying his execution of contingency order 66. He then took the dissatisfied republic and turned it into the united empire, offering stability and order. Finally, he would simply cut off all funding of the seperatists and immediately told all operations and factories to shut down. He destroyed democracy, the jedi and any chance at independence in 1 fell swoop. The CWMMP really displays the inherent tragedy of the war, with the jedi becoming conflicted in their roles, and the conflict between the public and the republic,

Yeah, the whole "Sith can't exist" argument is just a strawman by the opposition. I haven't seen anyone say Sith cannot exist. The argument is simply that the Jedi cannot know of an active Sith at this time because that would contradict the belief that they have been extinct for a millennium. The only way an active Sith could work is if he killed any and all witnesses and left no trail behind, but even then, Maul says "at last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi" in the Phantom Menace implying that the Sith have not actively fought the Jedi until that point.
@Necroscat
@Necroscat 2 ай бұрын
The Jedi were the one's that created the Sith in the first place. It was just Jedi that went rouge because they asked too many questions, & The High Council told them to shut-up! The Sith wanted to help people at first & using the Dark Side didn't mean you were evil right away! Look at Darth Revan. He was a Jedi that tried to get to The Jedi High Council to help out in The Mandalorians Wars, but the planets in need weren't part of the Republic so they didn't want to help. He turned to the Dark Side & became a Sith Lord & basically took half the Jedi with him to help. He was strong enough to resist the Dark Side & saved everyone, but was ultimately betrayed by his friend Alek (aka Darth Malek)

@@yagamifire7861Actually, he gave up being a Sith Lord after Mandalorian Wars ended, but Malek didn't. The Sith Lord (popular belief is that it was Vitiate) that trained him wanted them to keep fighting & kill the Jedi. When he refused (in a Luke Skywalker way) they captured & tortured him. Revan was made Immortal by force & 300 years later in a new body they tried to control him, but he resisted the Dark Side still. Malek was also Immortal & was planning on using the Mass Shadow Generator Revan first built to try to end the Mandalorian Wars, because it was just a big planet destroying bomb he never planned on using (kinda like a Nuclear Threat type thing). He killed Malek, destroyed the MSG & later just died from old age...

Sith existing isn't canon breaking. What is canon-breaking is the Sith showing proof of existence to the Jedi, that disprove the two lines we get in Ep 1: 1) The Sith have been extinct for a millenia 2) At last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi At the very least, the show should refrain from making the darksiders "Sith". At least, that's how I'd have danced around the topic. The statements made outside by the writer and actresses though, don't lend me much confidence in this.

Anyone saying this is because it isnt to do with prequels or original doesnt realise these fans love Kotor, they love the idea of a powerful sith. To me the trailer failed on one point, what is the show about? I didnt even feel like I got a good idea of what any characters are like. Sure lots of lightsabers, but when we saw faces they were mostly just standing looking at the camera whilst this one jedi master spoke. Say what you will but in the Ahsoka trailer I understood a bit about who she was from the trailer, that she was unsure of herself, I could see that in Sabine, as well as Sabine's recklessness and I could see the Droid would be comedy relief combined with a dash of wisdom. Even the badguys, I could see Baylan was restrained and his apprentice more reckless. Ive rewatched the trailer 3 times, Im not sure who are the main characters or anything about them as characters from the trailer. All I saw was lightsabers lighting up, some glimpses of action and people standing around. Surely they could have given further insight into the acolyte, Im not even sure who the acolyte is? Is it the masked figure? The hooded black woman? Are they the same character? I dont know. And that to me says the trailer didnt do its job. The show could be good, the trailer was all over the place

This takes place a few centuries befor the films, kotor a few millenia. I remember when Sith had glowing eyes, and seemed intimidating and awe inspiring. Palpatine looked like a dark wizard, Vader like a dark samurai and Maul like a literal devil with rotten teeth, and Dooku was the evil vampire count. This is not Old Republic, this is High Republic. So it will sound like something made by bored hippies. It will be horrible. Out of the Disney villains, only Baylan and the general looked intimidating, and the first is gone, the second became a joke. Hope is the first step on the road to dissapointment.

This is late, and I don't know if you will see this, Sheev, but what I understand about Omega being important is not that she has a particularly large midichlorian count, but rather that she is the only known clone of Jango Fett to have an identical midichlorian count to the original host. In other words, Omega is important because she represents a clone in which the host's midichlorian count was transferred successfully in the cloning process.

11:13 “You have to at least give the show a chance first” I wish I could 100% agree with that. But unfortunately considering the track record of not just Star Wars, but most franchise in Hollywood, giving something a chance isn’t always going to be an option for most people. Because the amount of times we’ve been burned by folks who don’t understand or care to understand these brands. Not to mention the people working on it, mainly Leslie Hedland herself. I don’t wanna support this or anything she’s part of. Has nothing to do with her being a woman of course. But Leslie made it clear this show isn’t gonna be what majority Star Wars fans want.

Fun idea for the rule of two thing: At some point after Darth Bane's time, there were a master and an apprentice (call them Sith 1 and 2). Sith 2 tries to undercut the Rule of Two and takes a secret apprentice (Sith 3) to help overthrow their master. Sith 3 actually comes to respect the Rule of Two in spite of their master, and uses manipulation to expose both Sith 1 & 2 to get them killed at the hands of the Jedi. Sith 3 continues the Rule of Two as it should be, and the Jedi believe that, for a time, there were only ever two sith, a master and an apprentice, and they successfully killed both.

Disney StarWars quality is inversaly proportional to the amount of legacy characters and force users the plot contains. When Disney writers try to engage with either of these they completly bomb because they are unable to treat them as anything but Nostalgia bait and eye candy respectivly. When these elements are removed the writing has to step up and deliver good characters. By this metric we can conclude that Acolyte will be midling eye-candy, if you liked the Battle of Geonosis and seeing Jedi bashed together like action figures then you are likely to like it.

@SheevTalks Well not to mention. It just can't work. It'd have to be a full on decimation of anyone with the slightest slider of knowledge. Even if this sith did kill them all. You're telling me she just went back into the shadows? Without a trace? No one investigated their missing jedi. The numerous that went there? No one investigated them missing. Found the bodies, any clues. Found lightsaber wounds like in revenge of the sith and said. "This must have been a sith lord". And just didn't investigate further? So even that doesn't fix it. Either way doing this makes the jedi really stupid. Which they were in the prequels and there's issues with that. The trailer has them fighting a sith. Its shown. They aren't hiding sheev. There is no way they can try to squeeze this in without retconning the prequels or making the jedi look like idiots. Don't give me that the dark side clouded their minds so they couldn't see. There's so much evidence. This doesn't work no matter what they do. And it's one of the reasons this trailer is getting ratioed to oblivion. Be more mindful of what you're saying. One thing I have noticed (and do not like) with Andor, and all of the other Disney Star Wars shows and movies, is that the characters do not talk like Star Wars characters. According to some interviews from George Lucas and other reports, he took inspiration from classical acting from the Golden Age of Hollywood (1930s and 1940s). Look at films like Casablanca or Gone With The Wind (or any of the Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers film serials), then watch any of Lucas' original six films and I believe you will notice the similarities. I always thought that was a genius idea to take classical acting and put it in another galaxy. However, once Disney took over and Lucas left, Star Wars no longer feels like "a galaxy far, far away" anymore. The characters talk more like people on Earth with current vernacular and swear words (the word "shit" used in Andor, for instance). Current vernacular works in shows like the Expanse because it takes place in our galaxy and most of the people come from Earth. But it doesn't work when you put it in Star Wars. Now before you say anything, I know that Han Solo said the word "Hell" in A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. The difference between that and what Disney is doing is that Star Wars was still finding its footing in 1977 and 1980. By the time you get to Return of The Jedi in 1983 and the prequels in 1999 up to 2005, the characters stopped saying that word. Now it's commonplace for them to not say "Hell" because they are from a different galaxy, so they would not know any of our religions, thus not use "Hell" as a swear word. Another reason that Andor doesn't feel like Star Wars to me (and it's not just because it has no lightsabers or pew, pew, pew) is that it felt more like they were trying to go for a feeling similar to Ron Moore's Battlestar Galactica or that of the Expanse. The problem is that that type of science fiction doesn't fit with Star Wars. Star Wars is supposed to have the feeling of a grand space opera similar in style to the classical acting seen in 1930s-1940s Hollywood, even when you focus on a non-force sensitive character. Now there have been cases in the original Expanded Universe where some stories didn't focus on Jedi. For example, I read one and a half of the X-wing novels a few years ago and while they focused more on non-force sensitive pilots and felt more like a spy espionage type story, they still felt like I was reading something from a galaxy far, far away.@@idanmuze

You make a good point, but you've also confirmed my take that Andor feels a lot like A New Hope.

Fun fact, there is in fact Hell in Corellian religion. It was created the justify Han’s use of the word. He says it in (chronologically) later novels as well.

You really don't know anything about The Sith or how they came to be do you? Try reading The Old Republic Revan. It actually shows how the Jedi can be villains, & how the Dark Side isn't necessarily bad & the Sith are the good guys sometimes. It shows how the Jedi & Sith relationship is more emotional than just good guy, bad guy. It's more like, The Jedi High Council fucked over too many Jedi that questioned their ways. Then those Jedi went rouge all the time, sometimes saving worlds using the Dark Side & sometimes just trying to kill the Jedi that enslaved them in the first place. I mean the Jedi steal babies!!!!

...what? The Sith are explicitly bad guys. Using the dark side is bad. Full stop. It's the very nature of it. It's spiritual sewage

Seems like you’re the one who doesn’t know how the Jedi and Sith work brudda. I really like you using the Revan book as your source. A highly divisive book generally held in very low esteem by fans (especially Kotor fans). I also really hate when Jedi get red by going rouge!

@@joeymobb8438Yeah I mean Exar Kun was one of the most powerful Sith Lords ever & he use to be a Jedi. He never made a new lightsaber & actually used Force Alchemy to make it stronger. It was a double sided blue lightsaber.

@@yagamifire7861Yeah they kinda do, because they don't need the permission of the parents or anyone on the children they take. And they take them so young that they can be sure they won't hold any ties to their families. They also keep any information about their families a secret from them.

I have not seen dune 2 yet but as someone who’s watched dune 1 right after reading the book, that movie was incredibly disappointing as an adaptation and felt really hollow and without substance. Hopefully it will be worth to give the sequel a shot
