+Shinola Thank you, I really appreciate that. As a marketing professional, I think you guys have done an outstanding job on your branding of your company and your products. I look forward to reviewing more of your pieces in the future. Perhaps something mechanical.... =). I more than most would love to see Shinola prosper for years to come. Keep doing what you do.

Yeah, they are disrespecting the "Shinola" brand name, it once stood for great value and products that were actually a reflection of its state. They made of it a BS "life-Style" brand, and a middle finger to Detroit. They're an ersatz Bremont at best!

I'm not sure why people go so bonkers over fancy boxes. They just end up in the closet anyway. I'd rather they charge less or put on better straps or something better into the watch than send a $50 box.

Wow, big watch. I couldn't pull that size off very well. I almost got Shinola right before Christmas 2014, a year and a half ago. Before I did that I typed in wristwatches in Google and down the rabbit hole I went. I ended up with a brand new Sinn 556 with a 2824 ETA, I still have it wear it almost every day, and really love it. I don't regret NOT getting the Shinola.

Great work on the video. I bought the Shinola Runwell last year via grey market with an additional discount. It does not get much wrist time but I like it and wanted to own it. I want to put it on a deployment clasp. QUESTIONS: What do you think of Detroit Watch Company? Are you from NYC? SUGGESTION: What do you think about walking through a Seiko MOD on your site, maybe to a Blancpain Fifty Phantom. Keep up the excellent work.
@JANTHONYCHANNEL
@JANTHONYCHANNEL 8 жыл бұрын
+Thomas Cala Same, my Runwell doesn't get much wrist time but I appreciate it. That was actually my fear with this watch, that I wouldn't wear it much. I like deployment clasps. I really like the idea of Detroit Watch Company and that these use mechanical movements however I haven't been overly impressed with the fit and finish of them for the money. If you could combine Shinola quality control with the mechanical movements of Detroit Watch Company you'd have a perfect watch in my mind. As for NYC, I have family just outside of the city so I consider it my second home. Detroit and NYC are my two spiritual homes and I spend a lot of time there however I call another large metropolis home. As for Seiko MOD, I know what you are referring to however I've never personally examined one so i don't know that I could speak well to it. I do think it is really cool what they do with them. Have you owned one? Thanks for the support as always as well.

+J. ANTHONY I have not owned a Seiko MOD pull will likely pull the trigger soon. Strangely, I spend more time deciding on these homage watches that on the iconic ones. I just made a deal for a TUDOR Monte Carlo and the own customized his own watches. We started to talk and he introduced me. BTW, I asked about NYC due to the photo in the video. Not stalking you yet! LOL
@JANTHONYCHANNEL
@JANTHONYCHANNEL 8 жыл бұрын
+Thomas Cala Yes, the MOD community is pretty cool. I just bought a Vostok to review on this channel, perhaps I'll try modding it. As for stalking me, I wasn't worried. I just like the anonymity of the internet. I intentionally didn't show my face for years on here. Especially when I was showing some of my higher end watches I like the idea that people know nothing about me. That and if people saw how I live I think I would lose some of my credibility when reviewing lower end watches. I'm likely overthinking it. I like the flexibility of showing watches of vastly different price points and the videos being about the watches rather than me.
@tc11228
@tc11228 8 жыл бұрын
+J. ANTHONY I completely understand. Unlike AC3 or TGV, KZfaq seems to be a hobby for you. My two Vostok's came last night. The lower cost, more version, has a SUPER low-end bracelet worthy of a $50 watch. The second watch has a rubber band and NATO. I purchased them for the history but I was more impressed with the OVERALL, external, quality of the Alpha and Parnis. Looking forward to your review.

I was wondering if you could do a video analyzing quartz movements. I like mechanical and stay away from Quartz. Through admitted ignorance about Quartz movements, I tend to lump them all together into down and dirty movements and I'm sure that may not be the case. A primer or Quartz movement 101 for us in the dark about Quartz movements. I know how the Quartz movement keeps accurate time but is it the styling, brand and marketing that commands some high prices on some Quartz watches or is there an actual difference in the movement? Thanks.
@JANTHONYCHANNEL
@JANTHONYCHANNEL 8 жыл бұрын
+Ross Anderson Thanks for the feedback. In general it is marketing, they all work the same in general. The few exceptions being Solar powered, kinetic and Spring Drive watches from Seiko. Generally more expensive quartz watches just use better components, for example pieces of the movement may be made out of metal instead of plastic. They all use a quartz crystal for regulation / time keeping. They only vary in how they create a current, either with a battery, captured sunlight or a rotor that charges a capacitor. I'm not sure I could do a great video on it but I'll try if I can find a good way to present it. Thanks

I have a Shinola Argonite 705 the square shaped cream colored dial. I love the watch. I like the weight and feel of the watch but, I do believe the Shinolas are over priced for a quartz watch. I paid $700 for this watch at the Chicago Shinola store. I later saw the watch on Amazon for a lower price. So like I said I love the watch it is durable I ware it a lot in the bath etc. I will be interested to see mechanical watches from Shinola.

Might be OK for about $100. But no way anywhere near $500+. A wood box and metal card is fluff. You don't wear a wood box and no one is going to see the metal card. I would rather the money be spent on the watch itself. I am not willing to pay inflated prices just because a product is assembled in the US. At this price range, there are so many quartz watches that can offer more value. It is awesome that there is another US company assembling watches. But to be sucessful, the company needs to offer more than "please buy it, we are Americans". That may work with bikes, but for watches?
