My grandpa co-runs an Orphanage in Thailand and the story’s he has relayed back to the states make me realize that no matter how bad it seems in my life, Thailand has it worse. To clarify on the Los Angeles writer's strike, it's not necessarily a fear of "AI taking their jobs", it's more a fear of "AI being used as an excuse to pay people less". In truth, AI isn't that good at making scripts, so what some productions are trying to do is make something using AI, then hire writers as EDITORS of that script in order to pay them less, despite needing to edit those poorly-generated scripts heavily to the point in which a writer is basically just writing from the ground up. This is just one issue of many, but I figured it'd be good to clarify.

Many of those writers had been producing nothing but garbage which has been costing the studios massive amounts of potential revenue putting the entire business, and thus the rest of the workers, at risk. They should first insist they bring actual value to the business before demanding the right not to be replaced.

I know a lot of WGA people irl and they have families who need income, the vast majority don’t live in Mount Olympus mansions. By the way the bad writing is usually due to time crunch and trend-chasing studio oversight, Hollywood writers have surprisingly little say in what actually gets written.

I think she challenged the law itself. It also says that the woman’s team couldn’t figure out the man’s sexuality without violating the law, as doing so might open her up to discrimination based on sexuality.

As the son of a man who grew up during Soviet occupation...it's heartwarming to see that the desire to remain impartial doesn't translate to an obligation to ignore obvious warcrimes in the name of "being fair to both sides." Especially while remaining professionally analytical and mindful of context. P.S. Already knew Thailand was it's monarchy's playground but this still surprised me. A big part of the actors strike is that streaming services underpay them by witholding royalties they deserve. In threatres you know how well a movie does, with streaming services you don't as they keep those data for theirselves. And people are waiting more and more for something to be released on streaming platforms instead of going to the threatres. So streaming services are paying actors barely any royalties while they rake in all the profits. Also many actors dont even get close to the 70k average mark, many dont even get close to the 26k they need for insurance.

Regarding the “creative expression” exception, I think we can come up with a fairly reasonable rule: Is the good or service make/provided specifically for a person? If yes, then anyone should be able to refuse to do business for any reason. If no, then the good or service should be provided without discrimination. Here’s a few examples to flesh this idea out: Happy Cakes regularly makes cakes that are put out for sale each day. You can come in and buy cakes off the shelf. Happy Cakes also makes custom cakes upon request. Scenario 1: A gay couple wants to buy a generic wedding cake that is part of the cakes for sale each day. I would argue that the cake shop must sell their generic cake without discrimination because nothing about the sale forced them to support or reject any protected belief. The cake was made without regard to the customer. Scenario 2: A gay couple wants to buy a made to order wedding cake that is not part of the cakes for sale each day. In this scenario, the couple is asking the business to play a part in expressing the couple’s wedding by requesting a specially made cake. The business should be free to reject such a custom order. When it comes to services (like wedding photos), it likely would always be a creative act, so the business should be allowed to reject providing the service. That said, a photo studio taking standard pictures would have a harder time arguing that what they were doing was truly customized for the client. In that case, anyone should be able to use the studio without discrimination. I think this would be a fair standard balancing the rights of people to have their beliefs and making sure we maintain open access to general goods and services.

Buy undeveloped land, spend $25 to get a wood permit for taking lumber from the woods, build a one/two room shack with wheels to hook up to a car or trailer, put solar panels as a roof, and then get a satellite dish. You now have a livable building with power and internet and don't have to pay rent. Your property tax is now also almost nonexistent, and if you build a large enough garden, you can get agriculture lenient on the land tax.

The issue is our system has no way of supporting people who dont have money even when we have a massive surplus of resources due to automation. That's why there are like 2-3 times more empty houses than there are homeless people, and yet they still can't get housing for some reason.

Under the Geneva convention, any structure used for military purposes is a valid target even hospitals lose their protected status if used as a fortress. Russians want to minimize casualties on their side and that can only be achieved by eliminating variables and striking military strongholds

Small mistake I noticed last month too The narrator pronounced Wagner with a “w” sound and not a “v” sound, Wagner is spelled Вагнер in Russian and the Cyrillic letter «в» is a “v” sound. Why the Romanized version of the name is Wagner and not Vagner is a mystery to me, but Wagner is pronounced with “v” Aside from that, I love the news videos, keep up the good work!

The main complaint by Musk is that Threads uses private code from Twitter. It didn't just take the style but straight up stole coding. Blizzard and EA are both trash but if Blizzard stole code from EA EA would have full authority to sue and probably win with ease

Major issue there would be money, as Elon simply has less to throw around given the amount sunk into twitter. Microsoft, strangely might have a better case, as they also have X copyrighted, because of Xbox

@@BeHappyTo If The Red Cross is actually in use, then it's significantly harder for the person being sued to argue that the copyright is ridiculous, and/or that they aren't actually infringing on the copyright. Additionally, money. More money and lawyers can get you far in a legal battle, esspecially as corporate types favourite tactic is just stalling until the other party runs out of money, meaning they win easily due to the other party not having any lawyers.
