This scene broke my heart the moment I realised it's Brenda the one who is saying all those mean things to herself, since dead people in this show are nothing but a tool the writers use in order to show the character's most internal thoughts, fears and traumas. I believe Brenda is one of the most complex and human characters appeared ever on screen.
@11Garrett115 жыл бұрын
Totally! Everything about Brenda was amazingly written & acted; a very complex life always brewing right there under the surface of Brenda’s calm, cool demeanor. Rachel Griffiths’ portrayal of this character is nothing short of brilliant, including the fact that she’s Australian. Wow!!!

@@11Garrett11 I totally understand where Brenda is coming from. She was by far my favorite character on the show and so was Claire, Ruth and David and Iisa but Brenda’s arc towards the end of season 2 was breaking my heart and the moment Nate figured what she had been doing ,Right there in that second you already had known that it was going to be over between them. In season 5 you see her start to struggle emotionally with the consequences of her mistakes. I shed a tear because I had been wanting Nate and Brenda to have a baby for such a long time in the series. To the people who have not seen the series I’m about to give out a spoiler so read at your own risk , I thought it was amazing how she ends up pregnant again and see her character accept who she is now and know that even though her husband was gone that he truly did love her even if they were not together anymore. Her last season arc was just beautiful

All the dialogue between the living and the dead were a figment of the living one's imagination/ dream on the show. Granted, these conversations are what the living person is perceiving the dead person would really be saying to them in this situation. Arguably the best show ever. An incredible cast guided by the most talented team of writers I have ever seen. And let's not forget that this show was created and sheparded by Alan Ball, the screenwriter of American Beauty. But going back to the writers, not only the most talented, but the most disciplined. Many shows start out strong, but end up overstaying their welcome and end up limping to the finish line (like The Sopranos).

I watched a few Sopranos episodes. Some were well done. But more than a few times I would have liked to have seen every one of them get killed in a massive explosion. She was never as cutting in life as she is here in this fantasy sequence. Her mother would be more suited to this exchange. This kinda reminds me of the catfight that doesn't happen. I don't think it was Lisa's character actually ,I'm under the impression that this is Brenda's interpretation of how Lisa was-she imagines her like that,pulling her down,telling Brenda she's not good enough for Nate and cannot have his baby because she doesn't deserve a happy,functional relationship-she wants it so bad and the fear of loosing it overwhelmes her.This is Brenda talking to herself,analysing herself like her parents did all her life.it's Brenda's jealousy of what Lisa had with Nate

That much dysfunction is an acquired taste. Brenda's relationships with her brother and her mother gave me too much of a look at how terrible people can act. The Fisher's "conversations" with Nathaniel were also some of the most poignant, especially David's, considering how his mood could shift from episode to episode. The closing shot of him and his father at the end of season 4 probably captured best the bond he had with his father when he was alive.

They were. They didn't get emotionally attached to their kids and much saw them as special high potential kids, sending them to specialists and stuff where all they needed were loving parents. Brenda and Billy could only get that from each other and escaped reality through stories such as the Nathalie's book. Brenda wouldn't have been that complexed if she would have grown up in a healthy family relationship, so would have Billy.

While never a passionate fan of the Sopranos myself, I do feel that its most ardent fans deserved a better ending than they got -- especially after devoting 8 loyal years through thick and thin, having to endure as much as 18 month sabbaticals in between several of their later seasons. David Chase spend 2 years coming up with the shit taco of an ending and expects the audience to eat it up as if it were high art. Sorry man, not biting.
