Hi friends, happy Thursday!
Welcome to the Dark History podcast. Did you know that fewer people know the recipe for Coca-Cola than know the nuclear code? Or that the few people who do know the recipe are not allowed to fly at the same time in case their flights go down. So how did Coca-Cola become such precious cargo? Well in today’s episode we get into Coke’s history, when did the cocaine get taken out and why, how it grew into the empire we know today, and what shady secrets they keep in their vault with the recipe.
I appreciate you for coming by, and tune in next week for more Dark History.

True. But honestly, if Jesus were still here in human form one of the first things He would do is FIRE that self appointed and self serving PR Team. Jesus is depicted as angry twice in the Bible. One of those times was in exact relation to Hypocritical & Abusive Religion & Practices … like the vast majority of organised “Christianity”. My personal opinion is that Jesus is most definitely NOT “in the house” of most organised Christian Churches … His Name & All He Stood For has been IMO misrepresented to the point of desecration unlike any other Name or Cause in History. I will NEVER call myself a “Christian” 🤮🤮🤮 But Jesus IS The Core Of My Faith 🙏

Dear Bailey, I doubt you’ll see this but I wanted to get this off my chest. You see, it’s coming up on the one year mark since I last watched or listened to Dark History. The fault isn’t yours, the content is incredible, educational and entertaining all rolled up into one! It’s because October 2021 was the last month I had the man who was a father figure and I got to listen to them together. He loved your stuff as much as I did and we would spend the whole episode together talking about it and laughing. As a history teacher you surprised even him with some of the things you found! November 2021 he was hospitalized…and never came home. He passed away at the end of December. He loved your work as much as I did and maybe, just maybe this year I can bring myself to listen again. Baby steps ya know? Thank you, from the bottom of my heart for your content.

Coca-Cola is also responsible for the image of Santa Claus's red and white outfit. Up until then he was portrayed in green or brown. Coke wanted to spread ads getting the attention of kids, so they used their red and white logo as the coloring for his costume.

@@morii7575 thank you! Yeah she really valued education a lot. We lived with her when I was a toddler for some time and I always remembered her reading books to me. I’m still a bookworm today bc of her, I miss her sm. I know that some went to one of my cousins bc he went to university for football. Although I couldn’t tell you where the rest went, I do have more older cousins so it most likely went to them. If so then I’m grateful that they got that opportunity. They do have established careers from what I know. I personally went through community college and I got my AA with no debt so I’m happy lol. I still plan to get my bachelors soon in museum studies/history. Saving money and making smart investments does really work overtime. I plan to do the same and save money for my kid’s education or for when they want to own their first home, whichever they choose. I appreciate that she was really thinking of us before we were even around and it is a valuable lesson that I believe she instilled in all of us. 💕

In addition to Bailey's point about companies being more honest about what's on their labels back in the day- people need to realize that the internet did not always exist, and there was a Stranglehold on the flow of information back in the day. Unless you're willing to hook it for 18 blocks to visit 12 different libraries, most people weren't going to do research on the products they consume, especially when they expect the companies that they trust to be honest with them.

This is precisely why it is so important that the sharing of information remains easily accessible. Many try to speak out about the real dangers of some product or commodity that large corporations have huge funds invested in but increasingly we are seeing dissenting voices silenced by big tech or whoever has been paid off handsomely to ensure the status quo remains.

A lot of people are allergic to artificial scents, but I don't think that's been researched. I've been diagnosed with multiple chemical sensitivity because of how bad my reactions are to perfume, scented soaps, and laundry detergent. But it's anything with parfum in it. Although a lot of things come from odd materials or have expensive costs to get, so that would be an interesting topic.

I don’t know about the gendering of scents. But I do know that they companies use weird stuff in fragrances. “Fragrance” under the law doesn’t has to be specific so they can and do put awful stuff in there. Things like phthalates and stuff.

I’m in love with the hair!! 😍😍😍 Plastic production goes beyond food products. A huge proliferator of plastic production is the fashion industry! Using polyester and other synthetic fabrics and then constantly pushing the narrative we need new clothes in order to be more desirable! The catch always is: 100% natural fiber products are harder to come by and mostly more expensive! Cheap textiles and labor are making a huge irreversible impact, and there’s not a lot to do about it! 😔

I’m from the south. Every carbonated beverage is called a Coke. Doesn’t matter if it’s Sprite or Dr Pepper or Mountain Dew… it’s called a Coke. Extremely southern people call it ‘Co-cola’. “Pop” or “soda” will just elicit a confused look.

Love this! From where I am in Scotland we call things like coke, Sprite, fanta etc (any carbonated drink) "Juice" or "Fizzy Juice". If you were asked by a friend to pick up a can of juice you know they mean something fizzy like a coke etc. You just ask what type 😂
