Does my mom support #VanLife? What advice does she give parents who have adventurous children? How does she respond to negative Internet comments?
Tonight, in part two of my road trip with mom, she answers your questions.

It’s hard to see the world from the eyes of a parent. You put all these years in and worry and pray for your children and then they tell you to stay in your lane... it’s hard to step back when you’ve nurtured this person his/her whole life...that doesn’t just go away... they’ll always be your baby... and if you’ve got one son/ daughter... it’s hard. I really don’t think my sons will understand their father and I until they have children of their own... they understand how we feel intellectually, but it’s going to take them raising a child of their own to understand us viscerally. I know exactly how your mom felt when she thought about her child going away. I wanted to hug her in commiseration.

I see in the comments where people are putting you down because of how you handled when your Mom cried. I think you did a great job at redirecting your Mom and bringing her emotions back up instead of bringing her farther down. I see a Mother who is very proud of her Daughter. As Mothers we have to let our children go out on their own. I think she's done a great job of letting go. A lot of older people don't understand that today's woman goes out on their own and learns to watch out for their safety. We don't need a Man to protect us. Today's woman shares their life with their partner when they have one in their life. We are not dominated by our partner for healthy relationship.

This was such a great concept for a video surrounding van life. It's so needed. I dont think my mom would ever be on board with me being involved in van life, the one time that I even broached the perimeter of the subject, she did not react well. So that shut me up quickly. One day though, it'll be something I pursue one day.

Love this. So true when your parents are critical of your life choices you stop sharing with them. Which starts a cycle that as the child you can not control. This is so true with my mom and I. I don't even live in a van, but my mom can not get over the fact that 16 years ago I moved 2,000 miles away from (her) home to California. Glad your mom is excepting and took the time to understand your lifestyle!

Liz, that video is bea•u•ti•ful. It portrays a completely different side of your mom, and of y'all's relationship, from the previous video of your road trip together. I remember you saying in a video awhile ago how your mom didn't understand the lifestyle you've chosen and that you didn't feel accepted or supported. This video shows the process you've both undergone healing. Your mom's love of her daughter, a string, capable woman, is evident. As is your love for her. Wonderful video.

Just came across your channel, I love this video in particular because many people have a really hard time getting their parents on board. It's a hard thing to explain to them and they want the best for you but they don't associate this concept with you doing what's best for you. They think you are lost and it's coming from no where. This video makes the conversation a bit easier :) thank you and awesome channel.

Having this interview was awesome! But OMG, HUG YOUR MOM!! She's crying and you are just sitting there. She OBVIOUSLY loves you so much! I think what you are not getting from what she is saying is that she was afraid for you and when she saw that you were not alone, you had other people around you to feel that sense of belonging, then she was not so frightened for you anymore. You have a GREAT mom!

This is a precious video between you and your mom. It brought me to tears when she started to weep and explain how she felt when you picked up and left. I could see that you were didn't quit get that a mother's love runs sooooo deep that when our child leaves and moves away, it is truly like we are losing them. I think that someday when you have a child or even a pet that you love with all your being, you will get it. (this is nothing negative about you - it's just sometimes how life is) I had a contentious relationship with my mom most of my adult life. Yet I came home to take care of her and my papa for the last 5 years of her life. My choice and I know that not all are able to do this. I promised her when I was 10 yrs old that I would. But now that her and my papa have passed, I am still keeping my promise taking care of their house until we sell. Two yrs+ have and now I am getting ready to hit the road once we sell their home. This video will be an amazing memory for you when your mom is no longer here. It will be one of your treasures. You will be able to reflect on your relationship in a way that may be painful yet filled with love. I'm a 60 yr old woman now, no partner (divorced his behind) and I am so grateful I can look back on the past few years of my life with my parents and know that I gave freely to them what they gave to me all my life. Love - Even when I didn't want it. Just my input, no judgement here. I hope you continue to run free as you wish and take the time to give to your mom and your dad in between.

I didn't expect to be crying at 7am today. What an amazing mom you have. As for the comments, people write what they are feeling, it has nothing to do with you and more to do with what's going on inside of them. They're projecting their feelings on to you because they want you to feel how their feeling and you probably do for a second. When i read the comments i can practically feel what their emotion was like when they watched the video its very interesting. It has nothing to do with you and more about them, if you know your on the right path doing the right thing then that's all that matters xx

I love this conversation so much. It’s hard to get my mom to understand my path for wanting to start vanlife. There are past reasons why, like my best friend passing away unexpectedly during her vanlife journey, but I just want her to understand that is a huge part of my reason why.. and that not everything that is different than the norm is scarier than most peoples average life. She looks at all the bad and forgets to see the good and I can’t wait til the day she understands and can see what it’s all about.

You know you are a whole lot alike your mom. Your mom is a very sweet person. Old man told me once when I was a child. A child grows up looking up to someone wanting to be just like them. Then you become a teenager an want to be everything right the opposite of the one you looked up to. An then you grow up becoming a young man or woman an end up being just like the one you looked up to as a child. Best interview I've seen in a long time.very sweet loving respectfully caring an consideration of feelings. Thanks.

Your mom as a great heart for you. My mother is getting older and even though I am the middle child I feel I am the only one who watches out for her and checks on her. So I totally get why in the other video you say you feel guilty at times. I'm in a wheelchair so I find I have to become very resourceful to help my mom with things as she gets older when my sisters family won't help her, yet they all can walk. It gets annoying. I can't say anything though as I know my mom will be the one who gets yelled at if I do. Just love on your mom, even though she may get on your nerves you only get one mom.

Please don’t judge ur mom! Like all moms she gets worried, don’t fault her for having those feelings. It’s natural for a loving parent to not understand ur lifestyle. It takes time to embrace and come to terms with it. Be proud that she loves and accepts you & is trying to be close to you! Life is not perfect, we all make mistakes in judgment and choices but we need to have those experiences to be better humans! Enjoy ur time with ur mother. It took a while for my mom to come around. She's lived in the same house for 30+ years and her first response was, "but what are you going to do with all your stuff?!?!?" I'd call that validation. Your mom gets it, and I think every parent has to go through the adjustment of their child becoming their own person and following their own dreams. You should be proud of who you are even more so now, that you know that your parent gets it. You should be feeling free at this stage. The vanlife movement is an extension of the hippy movement, just a little more modern. There's always gonna be gypsies,

I'm a mother I was young, I try to be supportive but you don't what it is like to be a parent. You don't understand her worriies,She is a mother ,a mothers job isn't to be a best friend its our job to protect, we do need to pretend we are ok with things because I'm not dumb I know your adult kids will do what they want teenagers do. Kids get so bitter that parents are not on board with things they want to do but as a parent you stress worries always in hope maybe they hear a tad of it and take the proper precautions, people think they are invincible and our world has changed so much. I know I can not control my kids they do what they want but I can tell them all these horror stories because maybe they will listen and be a tad safer
