Come with me on a solo kayaking adventure to Sand City Island, a deserted island off the north shore of Long Island, New York. This island is made up of ruins destroyed by a storm in the 1980s and is now home to Osprey, Geese, and Oystercatchers. I spent the day exploring the remains of the mine that was once there, cooked quesadillas, and experienced the partial eclipse in solitude.

You could have shared a morsel or two of your quesadilla with that crow. Oh well... You asked about the level of eclipse totality for us subscribers. It reached 100% here in the northern Adirondacks of New York State. The darkness quality was that of a sunset, with the sky not quite pitch black as midnight, but cool nonetheless! It lasted for three minutes, and then the sunshine came back startlingly rapidly! Anyway I am new to your channel, having been intrigued by your paddle down the Bronx River, a video that was immensely interesting and informative. Thanks, Matt. I look forward to more of your adventures!

i have been to most of the places you are kayaking at and they were great time for me growing up in Great Neck LI on the north shore but i could not take the climate so i moved to south east florida in 1975 and love it here. there are so many inland canals here you would never have time to do them all

You make kayaking look so easy and effortless and fun, however, I would be a little afraid of doing so in a river that deep, but the scenery is so awesome.. and peaceful. Thenks, for taking us along !! also was wondering if u would consider overnighting on this private little island??

Matt I remember us anchoring near there and swimming up to the island as a kid. Brings back some great memories. I think the concrete structures were larger and more dangerous back then.

Yes, I believe there was a storm in the 80s that damaged to ruins more but actually made the island a little safer. Such a cool spot.
