Zeppelin ended in 1980 after John Bonham passed due to pulmonary aspiration (consumed around 40 shots of vodka, choking on his vomit in his sleep). Jimbo got into a heroin addiction between late 1975-1982(1983?) and his playing declined. In 1983, Jimmy would do a spree of Charity Concerts for Multiple Sclerosis with big name artists. During this time he was still strung out on his Heroin addiction. He released one solo album called "outrider" in 1988 that was fairly successful and toured with John Miles. Through this tour he got clean from drugs and his playing returned to his old form. He reunited with Robert Plant for an acoustic album called "No Quarter" which was hugely successful and the two toured together for a few years without John Paul Jones. The trio as a whole reunited a few times, unsuccessfully I may add. Once in 1985 at Live Aid. This event was sorta disastrous for them. Page was out of shape and the guys played with 2 drummers without any sort of rehearsing. In 1988 the band reunited at MSG for their former record labels 40th Anniversary. Page called it one big disappointment and Plant would call it "foul". This 2007 show was a massive deal and holds a record for holding the "Highest Demand for Tickets for One Music Concert". Over 20 million people rendered requests online for tickets. Not only is this whole concert fantastic, but its easily one of the best reunion gigs of all time. Both the official film and performance has been highly acclaimed. Robert has consistently released solo albums (though he struggled to get back on his feet because Bonhan and him were childhood friends and his death impacted him heavily) since the end of Zeppelin and has maintained a good amount of success. Page has been fairly quiet since 2007 and has remained sober for a few decades now. Hope this helped.

With the benefit of hindsight, its likely that the hugely successful O2 show might never have happened if the Live Aid (I was there) and Atlantic Records shows were better than they were. I know it was a sore point for Page and the band that their "legacy" was tarnished a bit by those shaky performances, which is why they were so determined to make the O2 a great show. The fact that they were able to pull the O2 off so brilliantly is a tribute to their greatness, and a repudiation of haters who had claimed that Zeppelin was a studio illusion, which couldn't be further from the truth for fans who were there back in the day, and knew how great they were. By the way: Page and Coverdale should be included in your synopsis....they had great moments. Page returning to his top form with Coverdale is one of the main reasons Plant approached Page for the MTV gig....to some extent, Robert wanted to reassert that he was better than Coverdale, and he felt a little threatened by Page's success with Coverdale. Check out this rehearsal of Page Coverdale from 1993, with Page in PERFECT form: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bNldf7SGrdTNh6s.html

I would add/clarify that Plant had quite a successful solo career throughout the 80's. Never Zeppelin-huge, of course, but he was a staple on MTV with songs like "Sea of Love", "Big Log" & "Tall Cool One". His work in the 2000's generated a half-dozen Grammy awards. Plant has long been the one reluctant to go back into the shadow of Led Zeppelin. It's a big part of why he & Page didn't reunite with JPJ for the Unledded MTV performance, No Quarter album, and subsequent tour & follow-up album. One of the driving factors of the Celebration Day reunion show is it was meant as a tribute to the late Ahmet Ertegun, who had originally signed Zeppelin to Atlantic Records.

Want to add the John Paul Jones - so often not mentioned when discussing greatness- has had a pretty full career post Zeppelin - arranging, producing and performing across genres and has probably had the most varied post-Zepp career. Just in the past few months he had a premiere of a composition for violas chamber music called The Tudor Pull. He has done alot of work in free form/avant garde jazz. Blue grass americana music with Seasick Steve and others. Them Crooked Vultures with Dave Grohl and Josh Homme. At the time of the beginning of the pandemic, he was with a new band The Sons of Chipotle and planning to tour - but was cancelled due to COVID. Just need to make sure JPJ gets some love😊

the amount of money that was one the table to tour after the O2 is usually pegged at 800 million dollars. Supposedly, Page and JPJ were on board but Robert nixed it. He always swore that after his best friend Bonzo’s death, that Zeppelin would never tour again...Zeppelin was no longer “an affair of the heart” for him. He formed a new identity after 1980 and became a darling of MTV...many interviews and guest VJ spots and his albums did well. He has released about 10 albums since 1980. The pairing of Robert and Jimmy again in mid-nineties for the No Quarter tour and DVD was very well received...sold out world tour. They have performed occasionally on each other’s albums and one-off gigs (Knebworth 1990 Jimmy did two number with Plant and his band). The 2007 show was a tribute to their old friend and former head of Atlantic Records, Ahmet. When they decided to do it, they committed to it totally. After the less than stellar “reunions” of Live-Aid in 1985 and the Atlantic 40th Anniversary of 1988,. they were out to show that they did indeed deserve the status they held in the 70’s....They had something to prove, and they DID. They went into it with the understanding that it was a “one-off”...a tribute to their friend Ahmet, and an opportunity to go out on a high point. It was not with the idea of touring afterward. It was such a success however, that great pressure was brought to bear to tour. Why did Robert turn down the tour? Because he had moved on and was deeply committed at that time to the project with Alison Krauss and T-Bone Burnett...which turned into a 5 Grammy winning album and highly successful world tour. When that project ran its course, the band that had supported them wanted to continue, so they moved immediately into a new project, called The Band of Joy, with Patty Griffin as female vocalist. When that project was done, it was 2012. This is speculation on my part, Robert has never said this publicly, but Also, the demands on his voice for a tour would have been immense, and he might have totally ruined his voice and would not have been able to sing again....and why risk that when he was doing so well in the Americana, Country, Blue-grass, and “world music” genres. He had wonderful and exciting collaborations, he had a great band. He was in the enviable position of being able to turn down a bucket load of money because, for him, it’s about the music.....and the creativity.....always has been. He was in a really good place at that point, professionally and personally...he was happy....always moving forward, always feeding his creative muse...and had surrounded himself with musicians that are mostly still with him today.....and he was still touring until the pandemic hit....I had tickets to see him for last May...cancelled of course. I just hope I get another chance to see him live. At 72, (both Plant and myself) it’s not a given.

Helene - absolutely but it's also fair to point out that at least with others in the group Robert didn't totally nix a tour leading up to the O2 concert and I believe it wasn't rejected until after the concert and as far as Page and JPJ have said - he appeared to be entertaining it in the years immediately after the O2. . .so I don't know. I love Robert but he's said different things over the years.

@@susanpalmer8931 I think it was probably that he might have entertained the idea before he really got into the “two step” with Krauss...and that went so incredibly well...until 2009...(He has called his collaboration with Krauss and T-Bone Burnett a Godsend, as it showed him a completely new direction to take his music) and then immediately after he put together The Band of Joy with Patty Griffin and they became a couple and he moved to Austin for a couple of years...and then it was 2012. And at that point, I think, he really had aged out of doing a Zeppelin tour. In other words, his life became full with other ventures that captured his creative interest and soul. He has always said that he never “had a plan”....he just “lurched” from one thing to another. And..always...there was the issue with his voice. At sixty, as I said, a tour of singing like he did that night would have put such a burden on an aging voice. And Robert NEVER wanted to “be a jukebox” going around the circuit doing the tunes to please the fans. He is grateful for his good fortune, but he lives his life first and foremost to nourish himself....as most massively creative people do. I love Robert too.....I mean I really do, so I guess I forgive him for not doing what we all wanted him to do. Others cannot.

Page got with the singer/songwriter Paul Rodgers from Bad Company to form the band "The Firm" (2 albums) after he did an album called "Outrider" with various other musicians, then he got with David Coverdale from Whitesnake for an album called Coverdale/Page, which all were released in the 80's, before getting back with Robert Plant in the 90's without John Paul Jones, rehashing some Zeppelin music and a few new releases before putting out "Walking into Clarksdale" together

I think others have covered Jimmy's musical involvements, but he also spent a long time going through his music tapes and remastering and re-releasing them. He thought the originals didn't sound as good as they could do in digital format, so that's why he decided to remaster them. He also released some stuff that hadn't been released before, mainly as bonus stuff. He regards himself as keeper and guardian of the LZ legacy. Plant has given many reasons over the years for not wanting to reform LZ. He doesn't like to repeat things too much, fears they may end up sounding like a tribute band, not having the feel or desire for it any more, finds touring onerous and touring life vacuous. Maybe he doesn't have the energy. His voice has certainly been strained to the point that he can't perform 3 hour gigs and keep hitting the high notes in LZ songs any more. He likes to move forward and experiment musically. He likes being his own boss. He doesn't need the money. Too many bad things happened to him while he was with LZ. Perhaps that made him a bit superstitious. He more than any one disparages the way he performed and sang when he was younger (in Babe I'm Gonna Leave You for instance). Obviously he's grown up and changed, but still I think those performances stand up to this day and are nothing to be disparaging about.

Page released a great album in the mid 90s with Robert Plant called Walking into Clarcksdale. Great new material, on the same level of Zepp, in my opinion. They made a world tour. The album was recorded by Steve Albini(Pixies, Nirvana, ect), and the live band featured Poorl Thompson (ex-The Cure) on second guitar. Page and Plant also released Unledded in audio and video, which show them touring the world playing mostl Zepp material, but with rather more accoutic arrangements, with stings, eastern instruments, etc.

Not millions, billions. I believe 2 billion was estimated or offered at that time if they were going to do a tour. They tried out different singers, including Chris Cornell, but sans Plant it didn't feel right and Cornell himself said that without Plant they couldn't sensibly call it Led Zeppelin. Without that name the notoriety and marketing falls away. Plant was doing the same material 6 months later at Bayside in Miami FL with his new Band of Joy ensemble. Had a Led Zeppelin tour happened it would have changed the world again. When they were active in the 1970s it was a juggernaut. You couldn't escape the shadow of the Zeppelin and they couldn't find venues large enough to accommodate the horde of fans. They would sell out the same stadiums and arenas several times, as many as 4, in the same week. I doubt there will be anything like them ever again.

Just a small quibble: six months later, in 2008, Plant was in the middle of his “two step” collaboration with Alison Krauss and they were touring the album Raising Sand. After this ran its course, he then formed The Band of Joy with Patty Griffin....I believe it was late 2009 or early 2010. And yes, he performed some Zeppelin songs.....usually re-arranged and re-imagined, with all the bands he formed after 1990 or so.

Page wrote and recorded a film score for Death Wish 2, formed the band The Firm with Paul Rogers, had a solo album called Outrider, recorded an album with Roy Harper, recorded an album with David Coverdale, toured with Plant and released two albums, Un-ledded and Walking into Clarksdale, toured with the Black Crows and released the album live at the Greek..

What a moment, from an amazing, incredible performance. For one night they literally reached back in time and showed us the power and glory of this band. The opening number, Good Times, Bad Times, starts a little tentative....and somewhere around the middle of the second song, Ramble On, they click into high gear, and from that point, every song builds greater and greater as their confidence grows, finally leading to this song, which is the pinnacle of this show. If you close your eyes and listen to this entire show (especially songs like No Quarter, Dazed and Confused, and Whole Lotta Love), you almost cannot distinguish these renditions from their 1973-1975 shows...which is an amazing achievement for three guys in their 60's. One thing I noticed recently while watching this performance: I believe the 3D holograms behind them at the end of the song (the ones that looked like a digital Stonehenge) were a play on the "Object" from the cover of their Presence album....if I'm right, that is a magnificent call back to the great glory years.

THIS WAS GREAT, ALEX!! You're comments about the maturity of their material and their legitimacy as older performers are so true. Even on some of the other more sexually suggestive songs, Black Dog and Whole Lotta Love hold up with older Plant. You should check out some of the other stuff from this concert - where you can get to see/hear more of the Page guitar work. Since I've Been Loving You is pretty special too. A little tidbit for you: Short little clip from the film "It Might Get Loud" (wonderful by the way), where Jimmy is discussing the origin of the Kashmir riff and demonstrating to Jack White and the Edge - genius!! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/haqZl6SYybKYYI0.html What you understand about the tour not happening is true - but also true but not really discussed is Plant was resisting touring after his car accident in Greece when his wife almost died (1975) and even more so after his son Karac died in 1977 (he was reportedly incredibly hurt and pissed that Page and Jones didn't attend his son's funeral). He was coaxed back to the band by John Bonham. So it's sort of understandable - Plus in 2007 Plant had already had a successful solo career since 1980 and was touring with Alison Krauss promoting their album which one all kinds of Grammys. What did Jimmy do after LZ? - Jimmy has said himself that he didn't pick up a guitar for 18 months after Bonzo died. He was pretty shattered plus Bonzo died in his home. Also - although Jimmy and none of the members have ever admitted, Jimmy is alleged to have had a pretty serious heroin addiction by this time. He did "one off" collaborations early on. One intriguing one is with Alan White and Chris Squire from YES. They were thinking of forming a band (as XYZ - X Yes and Zeppelin) and did some recording but nothing was ever released. There are apparently bootlegs and Page has said he'd like to release the material at some point in time. I'd love to hear that!!! Page also did the soundtrack at this time for Death Wish II. His friends, hoping to help him, got him to do a performance in 1983 in London - the ARMS concert as a benefit for fellow musician Ronnie Lane (Small Faces) who had MS. He joined Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, (first time all 3 guitar greats were on stage together), Paul Rogers, Steve Winwood and others in this performance that ended up touring the US. It's pretty obvious that while still brilliant - he was not doing well. But after this things seemed to change for the better. Following this Page and Paul Rogers (Free/Bad Company) formed The Firm and recorded 2 albums and toured. He also recorded a solo album - Outrider with various vocalists on the album. He also did some session work. In the 90's, he did an album with David Coverdale (Whitesnake) and did a small tour. Then he rejoined with Plant and did a couple of projects - the unledded piece - NO QUARTER-JIMMY PAGE and ROBERT PLANT UNLEDDED This was also a film available on youtube. And they toured for a couple of years with the material - SO MUCH GREAT MUSIC FROM THIS TOUR - very middle eastern influence and there are sequences in the film of them playing with the Gnawa musicians in Morocco. He also worked with PDiddy on the soundtrack to the movie GodZilla where Kashmir was the basis of PDiddy's Come With Me and he performed the number with him on Saturday Night Live and in a benefit performance. Page and Plant also recorded an album of new music later in the 90s - Walking to Clarksdale. He also performed with the Black Crowes for 2 nights which resulted in the album Live at the Greek. He's continued to appear here and there with all kinds of musicians. But primarily in recent years - he's been remastering and rereleasing Led Zeppelin material (not only a genius musician but a genius business man in keeping the legacy alive); In 2017 he also remastered and rereleased the Yardbirds 68 which was released in 1971 but withdrawn for some reason. He produced several books 2 are autobiographical and most all photos and 1 with the other banc members Led Zeppelin By Led Zeppelin - mostly photos. He's been in a relationship with poet, Scarlett Sabet for many years now and has recently produced an album of her poetry, Catalyst. He is also giving a lot of interviews ( interesting considering how much he hated journalists early on.) He says that it's still in his plan to perform and has new music available when the time is right

Jimmy Page did the score for Death Wish II, made an album with The Firm( with Paul Rodgers) , did the Coverdale/ Page album, did 2 albums with Robert Plant( and 2 tours).

At 11:11 Jimmy definitely misses the cue to switch to the ascending riff that closes out the song. They have to wait 'til it comes around again, and he starts it at 11:24. They all know it, including Jimmy, but they just sell it like it was intentional like pros.

For a single song reaction: the Stones recently put out an old unreleased cut called "Scarlett" from the 70s featuring Page. Great song.

Yes a tour at this point would have generated sold out venues all over the planet and millions of dollars , but its not about the money its about the band and the music and the reason they decided to not go on in the first place without John. They love and respect Jason but it would not be the original band without their brother and maybe Jason wasnt interested and in my opinion Jason would be the only drummer on the planet qualified to sit in for John.

Jimmy has essentially been retired from music for decades. I've heard things about tendinitis/carpel tunnel but he's notoriously private. He aslo battled addiction for years, recovered, but not the same player. Even in this show, as good as it was, his solos are not close to his former self.

Everytime you say, “fare thee well,” it reminds me Dink’s Song by Jeff Buckley (Live at Sin-e). He repeats that phrase throughout the performance. Got lots of Buckley reactions lined up, if you want some suggestions; as well as other artists. Speaking of that “Arabic feel,” one can really sense that in Page & Plant’s versions of Four Sticks, during their mid ‘90s Unledded tour, where they were joined by an ensemble of foreign musicians who supplemented the song with a Middle Eastern flair. By the way, that’s not Jimmy Page performing in this video; it’s Michio Kaku. I wonder if you should react to Achilles Last Stand (studio version), on its own, or wait until you get around to reacting to Presence. It would be cool to see you react to the full song.

I’ve heard dumber things come out of people’s mouths online, so had no clue you meant to be sarcastic. I don’t know you, so have no way of knowing you’re not dumb. And what was your point in being sarcastic anyway? Just curious....

You definitely don't know much about led zeppelin especially with band members like Jimmy and Robert released lots of solo albums paige and plant went on the road together as a double act but both have never stopped making music and touring together or on their own 20,000 tickets went on sale for this concert 20 million applied for them don't think any other band could do that today

I think the live performance from Nebworth in 1979 is superior to this one. Here's the link... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nr2Piq-p2MvVYKM.html. One of the things Jimmy Page did was the soundtrack to the film Death Wish 2. He also did an album with (Hats off to) Roy Harper in 1985 called Whatever Happened To Jugula?

Decent but it definitely won't be on my playlist. And let's be honest it's not even close to the original which is the *only* version of Kashmir I'll listen to, period. But still it's not bad for three 65 year old seniors. Even though Page looked like he just rolled out of bed and JPJ looks as though he's constipated and forgot to take his Metamucil. While Plant had his hair freshly permed and thinks it's still 1978 and can't let go of the past, thankfully no more blouses lol...
