I have an invite to Heaven. I believe Godhead (God) is a future, not a past, just like the device I message on herein was once a future, not a past. I think we seek perfection and hence immortality; which includes knowing all and creating at will. The entire history of man is wanting more and better. The entire suppression of man entails suppressing the desire for more and better. The evil of mankind is intentional disparity. The only crime (sin) is theft. I am brain injured. I have been in the light. I try to practice stream of consciousness thinking. I know nothing for certain.

From what I know of hitler's rise is that the nationalist party and the socialist party got together to usurp the power to the ruling party at that time, and as hitler was consolidating power he purged the socialists from his party along with the previous ruling party. So the main reason hitler did not change the name was he did not want to do anything that may cause some of the followers of his party from following him. He did indeed also implement some socialist policies but only for arians

Nearly 20 years ago, on the Star Trek message boards, there was an arch-conservative Catholic who was adamant about Intelligent Design. He also insisted that Hitler was an atheist and he committed his crime only because of the science of evolution. There is some evidence that Hitler disliked Christianity, but that doesn't mean that he was an atheist (or that if you want to be a good person, you have to be a creationist holy-roller.) The 19th century Australians didn't need the theory of evolution to brutally wipe out the Tasmanian Aborigines, and the ancient Spartans (who Hitler did admire) didn't need the theory of evolution to commit their own eugenics policy.

It's a case they will sometimes make as part of the moral argument for God. In essence: "Without God there is no objective standard for morality. This leads to chaos, as what is right for one person will be totally different from what is right for another person, and everyone will only act selfishly. The atheist regimes of Hitler, Stalin, and Pol Pot show what happens when this is taken to its logical and inevitable conclusion." Both the premises and reasoning of this are, of course, patently flawed, on multiple levels.

To answer your question, a striking similarity between all three dictators is that they did NOT start with a large base of popular support. Hitler was not initially taken seriously, Stalin rose to power not through popularity but through byzantine political machinations - as for Pol Pot, as I said even the old guard Communists in Camodia didn't take him seriously - it took a series of extraordinary historical accidents to get him to power. Obama was elected, a Senator first, then a President.

@NonStampCollector : Other Western-European countries have similar draconian laws, but none are nearly as extreme as Germany. The reason for this is the fact that most Germans absolutely loved Hitler because he'd made life so much better for them, unlike in other countries where Hitler was demonised. As such, after the war American officials enforced an intense an inhuman denazification policy to destroy the roots of Nazism and the current draconian laws are the offspring thereof.

The interesting thing about this theist chestnut is that Stalin and Hitler treated religions differently. Stalin dynamited churches. Stalin later revived religions as a focus of patriotic sentiment during WWII as well.

If he was addressing Protestants, he was a Protestant. When he held speeches in secular parts of Germany, he avoided religious talk altogether.

Are there problems with that? Sure. Does it permit unrealistic prejudice to permeate? Certainly. However it DOES save us time in making judgment calls. Don't like it? Blame evolution. We are pattern seekers by selection.
