I agree. This season did something very special and amazing. I had written Trek off completely until I started to see clips like this. The new writers on this season love Trek. The passion comes through and though like a beam of sun shine. It gave us all something we could enjoy! That is all I ever want from Star Trek. Something we can all find joy in. Everyone gets a little something. And that means a lot to me personally.

Honestly, this was brilliant. I think it addressed all of Brent Spiner's concerns about the character. This addresses the aging out of the character, it gives Spiner something meaty to chew on as an actor and it resurrects (in a way) a beloved character for fans. If that was the case, then what was the point of B4? Nemesis had Data die off, as a means to give importance to the Nemesis movie. Yet, did not remove Brent Spiner completely. If Nemesis wasn't a box office flop, Brent Spiner would have continued as B4 with Data's memories. Effectively, B4 would have become the Data character. Remember the tag line, 'A Generation’s Final Journey Begins…’ There was no resolution to the TNG characters and stories, due to the box office disappointment, until now.

1:02 I love how Jerry Goldsmith's 4 note wonder/poignant motif that he composed for Star Trek the Final Frontier is used here by Stephen Barton to signify Data's rebirth, it was also used prominently in all the subsequent Trek films which he composed for. It appears extensively thorough _First Contact_ and _Nemesis._ A really overlooked motif I'm glad to be hearing again. Overall, Barton just *knows* what he's doing and that he's working on a franchise with a rich musical history. I have nothing against Jeff Russo, who has proven to be a capable composer, but his music for DISC and the first two Seasons of _Picard_ never really felt like Star Trek to me.

I think this data with all the other personalities will be interesting to see but we know from the trailer that at some point lore asserts authority and probably causes some kind of trouble but I think data will win out in the end

@@Makeitso2023 Data calls Picard captain, not admiral, so it seems to be Data's old memory. So the new Data is a combination of Data, Lore, Altan Soong and Lal, all eventually merged into one extraordinary being who is a SERIOUS Upgrade on the old Data. Plus, he's been completely redesigned physically so Brent Spiner finally gets to play his age as "old" Data. No wonder he wanted to come back as Data one last time-this take on Data was such a good idea. Plus, he got to play around with a real sense of humour. "I can feel it in my gut" when he sets out to fly the Enterprise D INTO the Borg cube while they are being shot at from pretty much every angle. Then "Here goes nothing" when he punches the throttle all the way open and makes the Enterprise D dance like it's fun through the innards of the Cube under fire...

My wild guess (as I never guessed it’s Picard’s human body they were after) is that the Changelings want to turn Jack Crusher into some sort of Locutus 2.0/Changeling hybrid that they can use to take out the fleet on Frontier Day. Picard’s human body must have had some relics from Locutus; he could still “hear” the Borg whenever he was close to them, & Jack would be the closest genetic match to Jean Luc so theoretically those relics could work with his physiology. The new Starfleet ships are all networked & we know from season 2 they use some Borg-based software. Even with Iromodic syndrome it sure seems Jack must have been abducted at some point and implanted with a portion of a Changeling; maybe when he was a kid during an operation, based on the bad dreams Beverly mentioned. Sadly for their plan to have a chance at working (and for the plot to be exciting this season) I think Riker is going to have to give Vadic something to track the Titan with in order to keep her from killing Deanna. Vadic will attack and board the Titan and, to save everyone else, Jack will choose to surrender himself after some serious firefights. It’ll be a No-Win Scenario for him, & he never wanted anyone to sacrifice themselves for him in the first place. Somehow Riker, Worf & Deanna will come up with a surprise attack that keeps Vadic from killing everyone on Titan, Vadic will fly off to turn Jack into the Borg-Changeling weapon they want, and that will set up the final two episodes. At first I thought the idea was corny but now I very much can see them setting it up so our heroes have to use a de-networked Titan and some of the non-networked museum ships to save the universe. And yes, I can totally see some of our old Next Gen crew flying out to battle in some kind of rebuilt version of the Enterprise-D. Geordi has been secretly working on something in Hanger 12, we know the saucer was recovered, and Levar Burton mentioned in an interview that they did film on a version of the E-D bridge. At this point any Galaxy classes would be at least 40 years old, and Geordi might be able to save a star drive section of one of the E-D’s remaining sister ships from the scrap dealers post-decommissioning. An old Galaxy Class is old enough not to be networked but new enough to still have somewhat modern systems and weapons, assuming Geordi made sure to restore the phaser banks & keep a few modern torpedoes handy.

If you were going after some sort of Borg wouldn’t Voyager be a better ship to use. To start with its far more advanced then true 1701-D. It uses the same tech as the E. That is also not counting the Armor and Weapons it has that should still work to some degree against the Borg. Voyager used some minor Borg enhancements but nothing networked the Borg could exploit or they would have. Mostly it was minor improvements , astrometrics and Sevens alcove

I remember watching the trailer for Nemesis back in the day. We all knew a member of the core crew was going to pass, but we didn't know who. I thought to myself if it were Data that would be the least painful since we had watched him perish more than a few times on the tv series or so it seemed. The creators and squeezed every ounce of juice from that moment on the Scimitar many times over and it works each time. His death still affects me to this day. I guess I didn't realize how much Data meant to me till he perished saving Picard one last time.

ok i get brents logic here as yes a human actor wont continue to look young forever to play a machine character. however even without that sacrafice scene in nemesis there are still ways future movies with the tng crew including data would have functionally worked. remember data was an android striving to become more human, and it would only be natural for him to want to seek out a method to "age" himself to experience the same things has his human friends and not look so out of place amongst them, despite the fact the entire crew would understand why the have grown old and he would have still looked as young as the day he was made. so really they could have kept data around even with brent spinner aging and explain it away as data trying to be more human and creating a body to refelct the aging passage of time. something date himself would have found extremely fascinating.

I was hating on what they were doing in the first two seasons. The petty crap, the obvious political attacks they admitted to, rewriting characters, all of it. Now? I may just watch this.

I loved all of the references from other Star Trek films and shows that were on this episode, like seeing the Genesis II device and the Klingon Bird Of Prey that was used to bring two humpback whales to the 24th century. It was also interesting to see the remains of Kirk's body after he died in 'Star Trek- Generations'. I was a little confused as to why the fleet museum would have a D7 Battle Cruiser. Who did it belong to?

Data has become Legion the sume of all parts of the whole of himself. Frankly his better and worse of each in one, and probably this story is his final evolution towards humanity, a union between the old and future artificial lifeforms, a cornerstone but not totally finished? Maybe Data will decide on a different name, something fitting for what is happening to him. Adam Legion Song or Ericsson Song? What's in a name. DATA first and final?

Hate how they keep ressurecting data in random ways. It's becoming like the Terminator franchise. Just let him live instead of killing him off and ressurecting him.

We all know Lore is going to make trouble (maybe). I'm not really into deleting AIs, but in Lore's case, I'd make an exception and delete him in the script.

That body in the hologram.... that's not picard. But.... it could be Shinzon. The Romulans created a clone to replace picard & infiltrate starfleet. But it feels like it survived & comatose. If anyone can disprove my thought, be my guest.

@@dopeactingscenes yeah. But the only question is, why would a rouge group of changelings want with a clone of picard? Not to mention, why are they chasing it down? I mean, the dominion might be going through a slow change, it might be a splinter group of just changelings. I think. Note: would like to see a scene of Odo & Data interacting with each other. XD

The thing is: they have access to all the data inside, erm, Data. So there's no real need to activate the android, just scan the memory for the information you need.

There are more effective ways to tell the audience he contains several personalities rather than have Data say, "I am Lore", etc. Most modern Hollywood writing wouldn't know subtlety if it had a green, glowing horn beeping over and over.
